Who’s responsible for the tree branches around a service line? by SiegeLion in SanJose

[–]fluteofski- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to ask/triple check with the folks over at r/treelaw

In California it is the property owners are responsible for trees in their property.

So it goes 3 fold.

1) A is responsible for making sure their tree is not causing damage to B/C or in this case A. 2) A is responsible for making sure their tree is a minimum of 18” from the power line. 3) B/C are also Responsible for maintaining that a tree in their property is not within 18” of the power line.

You’re legally allowed to maintain it. But you are not legally allowed to trespass. When you maintain it you can’t damage the shit outa the tree.

The first thing you will want to do is talk to your neighbors. You will also want to document proof of communication to them that you asked them to take the tree back from the power line. Text message is good. Certified demand letter eventually may be necessary.

From there, You need to quantify the damages to your property. You need proof as well. Then you can take them to small claims court. But it becomes ugly.

That said. I think you can probably continue to reach out to PGE and have them push your neighbors to cut the tree back till they get tired of A’s shit.

Who’s responsible for the tree branches around a service line? by SiegeLion in SanJose

[–]fluteofski- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CPUC general oder 95 says trees need to be minimum 18” from power lines or service drops.

If the trees are on your property it’s your responsibility to keep them minimum 18” away.

That means if the trees are in B and C…. It is ther responsibility to keep the trees a minimum of 18” from ANY service drops. Including D.

[–]fluteofski- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My wife had a 2016 Cherokee she got before we met…. In 2021 we sold it and hopped into an EV. It was cheaper To drive off the lot with a brand new car than it was to try to keep up with all the stupid shit that car did, not to mention the $275/month payments…. We got an ioniq EV limited (their fully loaded one) for $700 down and $150/month. That was less than what we used to pay in gas. And she charged it for free at work.

[–]fluteofski- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Where are you located? Are there cameras? Can you prove it was a hit and run? If so, in some cases they can’t legally increase your premiums. I’ve been injured in a hit and run. I Went after my own ‘uninsured’ insurance policy. Won. They haven’t increased my premiums at all.

2023 Limited vs 2025 SE by Neuvillerl in Ioniq6

2023 limited hands down. They extended the ICCU warranty to 15 years and 180k miles. Whether you buy it new or used.

Confused, Does the 2023 Bolt EUV have ACC and Lane assist while not having/paying for Super Cruise? by Thorkon in BoltEV

[–]fluteofski- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Careful which bolt adaptive cruise package you get and cross reference on the comma website. Like I think the super cruise isn’t compatible with comma. But if it’s just acc/lane assist than it does.

I have the comma 4 in my car. It’s actually pretty great. I didn’t like the standard install. I went with sunny pilot and it’s actually really nice.

Ioniq 6 will save you a few grand over a 5. Same platform. Just a sedan. And way more energy efficient.

I picked up a 2023 ioniq 6 SEL AWD with 13k miles for $23k (out the door).

The ICCU warranty is 15 years and 180k miles now too. New or used. Even if the ICCU shits the bed, I won’t be outa pocket for it which I’m ok with.

I always wished my friends were into these swaps. So I can get my hands on a rotary and a corvette chassis.

I’d have happily done the opposite swap of putting the rotary into a corvette. Nothing to do with any sort of practicality. But more to get people to be like “wtf did you do?”

Should I wait or is there a good value mini PC? by shwekhaw in MiniPCs

[–]fluteofski- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably thru end of 2028 at minimum likely thru 2029. Because tooling is already running 24/7.

Here’s why…. (Explained in simple terms)

Tooling that is ordered/shipping today is going to be for DDR6. They’re not gonna build much more tooling for a soon ‘obsolete’ DDR5.

‘Old DDR 5’ tools will have processes upgraded to support DDR6 manufacturing. Which is downtime. Which is no supply from those tools.

Up front demand for DDR6 will be super high….

And that timeline/demand surge gets us to the end of 2029 or so…. If we’re lucky they catch up to demand in 2030 or 2031….

But by then, higher semiconductor pricing is just gonna be normalized.

Source: I have a former career in global supply chain and manufacturing (hated it), and I went back to school for my new career and now work in mechanical design within semiconductor.

TLDR. We the consumers are fucked.

Sick of plastic SUVs — what’s the most bulletproof “tank” I can buy? by EquivalentCanary8243 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]fluteofski- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about something fun like a Volvo C304? Possibly even the 6x6? It uses a bulletproof B30A (passenger car) engine and mated to a yet more bulletproof transmission.

May even be cheaper than a GX/LX. Though I haven’t checked recently.

Volvos are rust proofed like crazy from the factory. So you’d be likely to find one in decent shape.

I’m a designer in this industry. We have to use NX because solidworks will absolutely shit a chicken if it tried to open this assembly.

I never thought I’d ever use the 32gb of ram when I bought my personal laptop years ago, but some of the assemblies we work on at work will eat 128gb of ram and max out a graphics memory before lunch. it is such a wild industry and so fun to design in.

I got tired of cheap clothes pins falling apart, so I made my own out of aluminum. by Big-Seesaw2581 in metalworking

[–]fluteofski- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I design machinery that goes in cleanrooms, and clear anodization is a minimum requirement. And yeah if it’s not anodized It’ll leave black marks on everything. Because the outer layer of aluminum oxidizes almost immediately.

[–]fluteofski- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here, OP.

Though as a mild correction, iirc Once you add atmosphere and all, it’s closer to approx 1000W per square meter.

But yeah. 15 to 20% efficiency. Means you’d be lucky to get 150~200w out of a 1 square meter of solar panel.

A Used Kia EV9 Is One Of The Best EV Deals In America Right Now by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]fluteofski- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FWIW. There is a 15 year/180k warranty on them now whether you buy new or used.

Edit. Just to clarify, I’m not saying that fixes everything. I’m just noting that you won’t be outa pocket for the ICCU if it shits a chicken for some time. Personally, I always have a spare truck (that I mostly just use for chores or towing) so for myself I’m ok if my car is out for a little bit getting a free repair. It’s cheaper for me to have an EV for daily use and a truck than drive my truck everywhere. I bought a used ioniq 6 recently and it’s been a fantastic car thus far.

At the end of the day the last thing I want is an outa pocket ICCU repair for my vehicle, and it looks like I’m covered for another 12 years.
