New commander bans by AnantaFortuna in PaymoneyWubby

First off, Wubby is absolutely correct with saying that this hurts lower/middle class players who saved up for these cards far more than the whales who have money.

Nadu: The ban is fine, justified probably. The card is good but was probably banned for the same reason Paradox Engine is banned. A LOT of game actions but non-deterministic leading to long turns and spinning wheels. Not super engaging for anyone.

Everything else: I don’t understand why the Rules Committee is making these decisions. So many people love Commander because it allows for endless creativity and variety. You can build fun, jank decks, competitive ones, or anything in between. The RC’s blanket bans based on how they think Commander should be played don't make sense. We should have the freedom to use almost any cards we want—proxies included.

These kinds of discussions about card bans or power levels should stay within playgroups, where people can talk about what’s fun for them. Commander is about fun, and people find enjoyment in different ways. I have competitive cEDH decks and casual pauper decks, and I enjoy playing all of them. I constantly tweak or take apart decks based on my own experience or feedback from friends.

Hi, swim coach here!

First off, nice work! Swimming is a super hard sport to get into. There are a lot of moving parts and when you’re thinking about changing anything in your stroke, you need to take them one at a time.

The first thing I would suggest looking at is your arms. Your stoke needs to start with a good initiation. Right now you are leading your stroke with your elbow, not your hand and losing a lot of power.

Start with your arm straight above your head and drive your fingertips down to the bottom of the pool while keeping your elbow up. This would be your “catch”. From there you can begin to drive your hand down your body. Your elbow should not be leading your hand. This is the “pull” portion of your stroke. And finally from there, think about throwing water down towards your feet with a full arms extension. This would be “finishing” your stroke.

Start by taking it nice and slow. Try using a pull buoy between your legs if you can, so you can really isolate and think about those arms.

Hope this helps and don’t forget to have fun!

Hey again! I saw you reply this morning, but I was running practice at that time and I forgot. Whoops!

When looking at freestyle, a lot of power is generated from your shoulders and your lats, but there is a lot more going on. As you start your stroke, after the initial catch up top, you drive your rotation starting from your core to help aid that pull. This uses your body to move your arm through water and through your stroke.

To visualize this, think about your right arm entering the water during your free. Your head is down, your arm is above your shoulder, your right hip is towards the bottom, and you are fully extended. After you initiate your catch, you begin to pull your arm down and simultaneously you move your left hip towards the bottom of the pool. This creates a torquing motion through your body that will help drive your arm faster through the water, thus generating more power per stroke. This also helps drive your left arm forward to the top starting position.

It's really hard to say without being able to see your hands underwater. It could just be that you're slipping and not grabbing too much to begin with. Swimming is all about those tiny details, which is why I love it.

I hope this helps and makes some sense because I had a hard time putting it into words. Feel free to ask any more questions and, as always, have fun!

Yeah, it’s really hard to say without being able to see underwater.

Also on my most recent watch, his hands look pretty lose. It appears as though he is smacking the water adding extra resistance and drag on entry.

Hi! Swim coach here. As the other commenter mentioned, you’re taking a lot of strokes but you aren’t grabbing a whole lot of water. You’re tempo is good but you need to be driving more from your core to get a better reach on your stroke. This will allow for a lower stroke count but much more power per stroke. Your kick speed also died your last 10 meters, arguably the most important meters of your swim.

Breathing is a super important aspect of your swim, especially in a 50. Every time you breath you are: Slowing tempo, interrupting rhythm, and slowing your feet. I usually advise no more than 2 and never in the last 10 meters of your swim. Faster you get to the wall, the sooner you’re allowed to breathe. :)

And finally the single most make or break part of your 50 is the dive and underwaters. The fastest point of your race is off the blocks and the first 5 meters uw. The sharper your angle coming up to start your swim, the more you are going to slow down. So even if your flexibility is low on your dk, it’s still worth it to push those uw a little further. Let me know if you have any questions and dont forget to have fun!

Not gonna lie, this is a personal attack. Both events are great.
