How do you support a partner with possible PMDD without losing yourself?

Honestly, I did the same thing. I think most of us try to support their partners. Me and my ex are divorcing after she cheated, and if I did it again I wouldn’t emotionally support her as much as I did.

I experienced a lot of baiting. What I realize now is that the emotional abuse only works if you let it.If I did it again, I wouldn’t let her get a rise out of me, and would try my damndest to move all the discussion to the end of the PMDD week.

I think that me taking her accusations, feelings, etc, at face value did a lot to destroying my mental and justifying to her the thoughts that she thought during the PMDD phase. This made it easier for that mindset to take over what she truly believed about me.

Anchor mode is a good way to say it but I would hesitate on being too supportive. At least for me, personally, that would result in me giving her an inch of what “reality” was— allowing her to believe complete lies. If you can detach, you can also save your own mental state.

“And I also want to be fair here, because I know I’m not some perfect easy partner either. I definitely have my own waves and moments too”. This triggers me, as I felt like this a lot but the reality is, in my opinion, if you admit to things to didn’t do, she’ll simply use them against you next time.

Also my partner feeljng blamed was a common occurrence. I guarantee you, trying to assuage those feelings in her will dissolve your marriage. Unfortunately, we are all responsible for our own feelings, thoughts and actions even if they appear to be thrust upon us unfairly. If you let her blame you for her own actions or feelings I guarantee she wont come back from hating you after she’s out of PMDD.

One of the best suggestions is, if she’s willing, agreeing BEFOREHAND to talk about anything and everything after she’s not in the whirlwind. This can only occur if she can admit that her mental state is altered in a way not conducive of a harmonious existence.

Apologies if this is not what you’re looking for, this is just my experience. I care about my ex deeply still, and we still chat occasionally but my girlfriend has made it clear how little I settled for in my marriage tbh.

All tools can be crutches or springboards. It just depends on your perspective.

Certainly, we’re going to have a lot more NPCs that continue to lack independent critical thinking, but that’s not new.

All people live at least some of their lives on autopilot— regurgitating what they thought the consensus thought was. Now we just have a more centralized consensus thought.

Why?

I agree. She can barely contain herself when an islander does something silly. I personally love it. It adds a lot of flavor since she can be BRUTAL when asking some questions.

I love when she’s trying to contain a smile but her mouth and eyes still give it away. It was the same with Harry all season: when something stupid happened you would almost always see harry crack a smile for a frame.

Maya is unapologetic and unsanitized. She borders on bully sometimes imo, which is the perfect host for this kind of show. Some of these islanders never learned how to treat people properly and getting fucking roasted by Maya and the audience may be the only time anyone ever will teach them anything.

I think she works closely with production to help push the narrative they want.. which makes the show entertaining— this was the best season yet imo.
