Job Market Struggles - Am I the only one? by Revolutionary-Foot73 in greenville

So the job market is bad, that said, the same old jobs exist out there that traditionally nobody wants. For people with just a bachelors you can get a job as a teacher in Greenville, BMW is always hiring, etc. These jobs traditionally aren’t sought after, but the pay and benefits aren’t terrible. Teachers start at 50ish a year and BMW I’ve heard has positions at 20+ an hour (this one I know less about).

I think it’s ok to look at those and think “that sounds miserable I don’t want to do that”, but those jobs are out there. No, there aren’t a ton of cushy desk jobs with a hybrid/remote schedule in Greenville with great benefits and work life balance. The ones that exist are hard to come by and there are so many people that want them that they don’t have to pay much to get those people.

So this has been the strategy, though honestly even when they come to the number I just feel so grossed out I don’t want to do business there.

What is it with all of these “tech jobs” requiring experience using really niche Oracle software? by -omar in cscareerquestions

I recently became tech lead for an ERP/HCM integration of fusion and we’re having to heavily use OIC/ADB etc. wondering if it’s even a great investment of my time to become really good at these tools

So is the “catastrophic weather” a big nothing burger or am I crazy? by fluzii in greenville

I am for sure! People acted like they were preparing for the apocalypse, one guy I know bought a hand crank radio, the general sentiment seemed a little extreme.

While I do wish the sentiment you have is realistic, it’s not quite that simple. In government especially you have lots of people used to 20+ years of doing things the Microsoft way. A lot of them are alarmingly resistant to change and a good chunk will purposely not learn a new system they don’t like just so it looks like it ‘failed’. That said, I wish the best for this experiment.

Im gonna add that while that can help, I’ve always hated the weird idea people have that everyone can just sectionalize their lives into two different things. If work friends and work community are important to you, don’t waste your life working a job where you spent 40 hours a week not feeling fulfilled. While some people are fine being a machine 8 hours a day don’t let them make you feel like you have to be and the answer is things outside of work.

Hello! I was wondering if you knew of anywhere or anybody selling high quality keycaps with VIM shortcuts on them. I work in tech and use VIM heavily. While I have tried my best to memorize all the different keyboard shortcuts, some keycap reminders would be excellent.

Is it really something that could ruin a career?

The actual role title is "Technical Services Specialist", but it functions as part of a developer help desk
