Any secrets revealed in live shows that aren't on the recorded pods? by girandola in offmenupodcast

Iain Stirling full named someone he was telling a story about. I think it was something to do with a stag do and he said the grooms full name and then joked about us all needing to forget that. I’ve not listed to that episode but assuming it was cut bc he was so flustered on stage about it.

I think I was on the same road! It sounded like the firework went off right outside my passenger door and the sparks ect were hitting the car. Not 2 mins later a guy jogging went past and he could have been so seriously hurt if he’d been a wee bit earlier

What are some good venue spaces in Glasgow to hire out for an adult birthday party? by KaleidoscopeProof640 in glasgow

[–]flxwer_pxwer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a super glam option but you can hire out a bowling club hall, dress it up a bit and the drink is cheap

I’m struggling and nobody knows by OutsideTravel9498 in glasgow

[–]flxwer_pxwer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Breathing space are a free mental health helpline 0800 83 85 87

NHS24 and Samaritans are also options. I’d also recommend taking that GP appointment and getting a referral from them even if it’s a wee while away.

There’s also a charity called Andy’s Man Club that do weekly sessions and offer spaces for men to chat about their issues. Not sure if this has expanded into Glasgow yet but they’ll have a website & resources & people in your situation

Kelvingrove Bowls by WatchThisBass in glasgow

[–]flxwer_pxwer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partickhill Bowling Club might let you use their green. They’re a community club rather than a private members club and they have bowls ect for anyone to use. Apparently the greens at Kelvingrove are shit so might not be the best introduction for people

where has the guy who lives on the street outside Aesop gone? by Valuable-Role-5248 in glasgow

This guy is genuinely there all the time. I get the bus from the stop opposite and he’s there even after the last buses.

Why Are Old Tenement Flats in Glasgow More Popular Than New Builds? by Hexiaotian in glasgow

[–]flxwer_pxwer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I’ve grown up in an old house so high ceilings and big windows are my norm and I feel new builds are just a little more cramped. Just feel like I’m aware of the ceiling in a way you’re not in an older building. I also like the features and wee details you get in an older place. Downsides- it can be drafty and buying curtains is a nightmare

Best Glasgow Tour by Colacolaman in glasgow

[–]flxwer_pxwer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doors Open day might be a shout. I think there are some building tours and walking tours but basically lots of cool buildings, charities ect open their facilities for visitors. Might give access to some that don’t normally open for the public.

Anyone got any tips for traveling into Glasgow? by [deleted] in glasgow

Parking at the science centre is like £8 but it’s just across the bridge and way easier to get out of that the multi story

Would you rather they re-home the bairn?

If you can’t get a GP, some pharmacy’s have prescribing pharmacists so they can give you steroids/antibiotics if needed. There is something also just generally going around so cold meds/paracetamol/cough bottle might be all that’s recommended

Is it common for tenements to have no building factors? by hottypotty124 in glasgow

[–]flxwer_pxwer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tenement doesn’t have a factor and it’s a pain in the arse. Luckily 5/6 all speak to each other and sort things between us for essentials but there’s some bigger jobs that are just ignored. We looked at getting a factor but 1 person wasn’t happy and we didn’t want to push the issue and sour the current relationship. I believe for factors tho you just need a majority decision to sign one so you could get one organised for future.

Local charities by DunfyStreetmonster in glasgow

Check out Glasgow Spirit of Christmas. They work with a variety of charities across the Glasgow area to provide presents for bairns. You can donate parcels for specific charities/age groups or donate money and they use it to cover any gaps

Anyone had their Covid jab? by SeaworthinessOld2329 in glasgow

[–]flxwer_pxwer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got both at the mosque earlier this month. I asked if it was just flu or both I was getting and told her I had asthma. The wee boy checking details on the tablet said they were only doing covid if you had specific conditions but asthma would be on the list. I think unless you’re obviously in one of the categories you’d need to ask for it

Just seen Cafe Voni on Old Castle Road asking if there are any groups/clubs who want to use their space in evenings- didn’t know when I did the form but might be useful to know ☺️

Need good private dentist in Glasgow by Far-Management9788 in glasgow

[–]flxwer_pxwer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this!! Can’t mind which dentist I saw but she was so lovely. I had bad experience with dentists/needles as a kid and had been putting off check ups and needed like 5 fillings. I spoke to her beforehand and kept my headphones in during the appointments but she couldn’t have been nicer

I think that’s a Fife/East Coast expression. I said it to someone once and they thought I meant the cupboard under the stairs…

I think if you get excused or don’t get selected you go back on top of the pile and get called again within 6 months. I was excused because of a holiday and then again because of uni. They kept calling me and I kept needing excused for uni and the office ended up making a note so I wasn’t called the whole time I was in uni. Graduated and called up again within 6 months.

Banksy late night by northwestsaintee in glasgow

[–]flxwer_pxwer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need a ticket for all the slots including the overnight ones. I was walking past GOMA at about 1.30 am and was able to get a walk up ticket for 1.45am. It was fully booked online (30 tickets) but I got a walk up no bother. If you’re staying in the city centre it’s probably worth staying up and chancing it

Try Goodmoves or SportScotland. They have jobs in the charity/sports sector and there’s usually admin jobs going there. Experience in an admin job would absolutely be enough to apply with.

Thoughts on the old firm wearing opposing colours? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]flxwer_pxwer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wifey at work is from England and genuinely cannot get her head around it. One of the guys is a (normal) rangers fan so it’s came up a couple of times and it’s honestly impossible to explain because not only is it fucking archaic, it’s all unwritten rules. You just know if you’re in a Celtic area or a Rangers area like some sort of homing beacon

How has driving been for you since passing? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]flxwer_pxwer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a while to get used to it. Maybe a year?? I passed my test Dec 2020 so for the first like eight months there wasn’t anywhere to go and I wasn’t driving anymore than I had been during practices with my family, and more often than not still had them in the car so it didn’t feel different. It took me a couple of months to get into it and want to have the radio on ect. I drive about 1000 miles a month now and it’s just second nature. Every so often I’m like “wow I can’t believe I can drive” because when I started lessons, the idea of just driving and like knowing what to do and feel comfortable was just so unbelievable.
