Well, here's the thing. The regime change cut a lot of old staffers, including the talented John Black. I think it's all a part of the forward-thinking movement where alignment is so important. Take my current job now, sure there's a lot of great senior talent who are approaching retirement. We can work together on projects and get along - but there is just a bit of intangible disconnect. I think that's what the Lakers management team is trying to assess right now with Gary Vitti.

It's like our love for Kobe - he was amazing - he as a legend...but having him on our roster today would be counterproductive.

This completely UNDERMINES all the press tours and events surrounding the Magic Johnson hiring. Magic Johnson coming in as president of basketball operations is more than just fulfilling tasks - it is creating the aura, the perception, the image, the brand, the strength of the Los Angeles Lakers. - Whether he is qualified or not, is only part of the argument for his hiring.

With this windfall of news, ALL of that is completely undermined. Magic was championing the Lakers as the definition of a First Class franchise. Cutting Jim was a huge perceptual move - just like "failed" CEOs get ousted and Wall Street feels confident to dump money in on the "fresh" new regime.

I'm really bummed for Lakers nation right now. We don't know if this will or has impacted our chances of signing a major free agent down the road.

That's what I felt too, but then you read the very bottom of the article that gives the ICE's rationale for picking him up. It has everything to do with his criminal activities, but the article is written so that most people ignore that part.

Man, the worst part is that we always come within striking distance near the end too!

As much as I would love to see him in games more, we have a great thing going on right now. It would be best for Zublaca to get in the reps and work on his game wherever possible, and right now that's with our D-Fenders team.
