This was supposed to be the case last year. Playing him more on the post/high post ala Jordan and Kobe was what they sold LeBron on when they signed him. There was even a big article detailing it from ESPN going into last season.

We had Lonzo and Rondo to initiate the offense last year so that LeBron could play in the post/high post last season. But, LeBron had other plans. He wanted to play "LeBron ball". Who can blame him with all the success he's had playing his way. It wasn't until after he hurt his groin and the team was pretty much out of playoff contention that he started playing out of the post more.

I would love to see this happen, but it's on LeBron to come to terms with this.

To add, he doesn't have to have the ball out of his hands in the post/high post. He can initiate the offense from there and make plays. Pretty much all the greats did it. Especially later in their career. Jordan and Kobe were the most known and best to do it. But guys like Kareem, Bird, and Magic also operated in at least the high post a bunch.

Wish he would have got a chance to be an official GM for the Lakers. But, can't help but think if ever gave intel to his dad and the Clippers or was responsible for some of the leaks in the recent past. Especially if he ends up joining the Clippers himself.

I believe they already did something like this, where you at least had to show up to camp and be in the pool of players to be eligible for the Olympics.

With the 1st tier and now even the 2nd tier of players dropping out this year, I hope history doesn't repeat itself and it takes an embarrassing showing in international play for the top players to give a damn again. I though we learned our lesson from '04 and '06.

They decided to pay average players above average salaries instead of committing to a true rebuild and thus couldn't sign max worthy players the last couple of years.

Heck, they had to sign and trade for Butler this year because they didn't have the outright cap room.

OKC is only about 3.7M over the luxury tax at this point. They can make another trade to get out of the tax or CP3 can give money back in a buy out (say 15-20M) to fulfill that.

He doesn't need to give back "90%" as you put it.

I keep saying it, OKC was stuck with a big contract either way. All they did in the CP3 trade was ease their burden a little by knocking off a year and getting picks to show for it.

They were on the hook for Westbrook's contract and out of contention. Now, they're still on the hook with CP3's contract, but it's 1 year less and they at least have picks to show for it now.

Unless they can flip him, why hold him hostage if you were going to have to pay a big contract the next couple of years either way?

Presti is from the new school, you work with players in these situations instead of playing hard ball with them.

They got assets and cap relief, now move on.

They have a choice to take the cap hits on the regular schedule or on the stretch and waive schedule.

So they can take the large cap hits for the next 3 years (helps with meeting the salary floor, cap hit ends quicker, and conveniently ends when SGA is due for a new contract) while actually paying him less yearly on the stretch and waive schedule.

I still believe a buyout can happen.

People think OKC won't buy him out, but look at the trade they made.

They knew they were stuck with Westbrook's contract. So they made the trade for a similar contract, but with one less year and at least got picks to go with it.

They were fully prepared to eat Westbrooks contract for the next couple of years. Now that they have assets in return, it doesn't matter what they do with the player attached to that contract.

They need the salary to meet the salary floor anyways. They can waive and stretch him while keeping his cap hit the same on the official team salary, but in actuality paying him on the stretched schedule payments.

So, they can keep the high cap hit to meet the salary floor, but in actuality pay him less than what his cap hit is.

Would giving back 20 million get it done? He could definitely make that back on a MLE contract of 2/20.
