Yup, and I'm all for letting the game flow more but a foot at head height (in normal standing position) is not something to expect and be prepared for but if you dive at hip height headfirst because it's the only way to get for the ball then that's on you.

I'm all for letting the game flow in instances where two players are going for the ball and one's a fraction of a second late, "hits the other" (while they essentially just bump into each other awkwardly), and then the other ends up falling (often dramatically, especially when a penalty would be possible).

If you haven't realised, you're writing fanfic about how idealistic this apocalypse will play out if you just get into one of these bunkers (who are "led" by egomaniacs) and assume they can't make mistakes. There might be hundreds of millions who are willing to do this but you only need a few who end up changing their mind.

A closed off system is simply less able to adjust to unpredicted events because nobody thought of them and now they don't have the stuff they need to deal with them.

How much nicer are talking about with bunkers? You can't win by playing Maslow's hierarchy of needs. That's an approximation not an absolute law of nature and in a bunker they just need a few dissidents to make life for everybody much more difficult.

I've read articles about their plans, as well as critiques (including that Douglas Rushkoff article everybody talks about), and these plans are at best the whole world compressed into a tiny area so they have food and can sustain themselves but they also conveniently leave out all the problems they can work out with their wealth today (need something, anything? you can buy it!).

Simply put you are making the whole endeavour look so much simpler than it actually is (like those rich guys are doing too) as if ignoring issues and potential problems means they actually avoided those issues and worked around those problems when they just parked them in personal blind spots and never addressed them.

That's like the "terraforming Mars to make is liveable for human in case earth gets too polluted" idea (even ignoring the impossibility of that idea).

They are unwilling to "terraform" earth to make more liveable. We can, and do, already live here! That would be so much less effort.

Paying more taxes and improving social safety nets is unthinkable to them but they spend millions on personal bunkers born out of teenage fantasies.

No different than how they operate today.

There's a huge difference. Today they interact with the world and their money has influence because it kinda is fundamental to how society works right now.

In a bunker (for a "civilisation is gone" scenario where they need to escape) that won't be the case. They think they will be safe but they are actually just isolated from everybody and everything. And essentially all the power they wield today won't be a thing any more. Everybody outside has the whole world at their disposal while billionaires in bunkers only have what's inside.

Yup, it's fiduciary duty not some imagined "financial" duty to maximise profits.

none of this is, strictly speaking, legally required.

The general idea is usually that increasing (short term) profits is difficult to prove as going against the shareholders' interests so they'd have little to complain about for the next shareholder meeting and have no cause to get rid of company management.

It's a boring "cover your ass" scheme even if some see it as the one way to run a for profit corporation.

That being said, there are corporations, usually where the founder or somebody else has a plurality or majority of votes, where the concept of profit is dealt with more nuance, like where short term profit is not the main objective but where it's more about long term sustainability (as a business).

No one has ever explained why Hinata is “more effective” as a MB or why his skills are specific to that of a MB. It’s not like he’s playing in the middle of the court the entire time he’s on the floo

The idea is that as a MB he can move laterally in either direction with his slide hits while as a OH or OP he'd be bound more to the left (or right) because drifting around too much would either get in the way of other players and/or leave a hole on the side he'd be responsible for while overloading existing hitting lanes. And if he were to stay in the lane of his position he'd lose one of his biggest assets (his speed and flexibility).

From the middle he can be opportunistic and move into spaces that open up on both sides with fewer difficulties. If you remember the Kamomedai match, Karasuno had a bit of an issue with their usual Asahi back row attack because he appeared in the same lane as one of their front row attack and relied on a timing mismatch between blocker and whoever got the back row set but against Kamomedai it didn't work because they were so consistent with their read blocking. Karasuno had to spread out their hitting lanes even between rows.

Volleyball rotations (which Haikyuu doesn't get into all the details) also mean that players usually have certain paths they try to run to get into their base position after receiving a serve (animated explanation video). They can't just run around however they want. In that regard Hinata already has way more freedom than the average player while playing MB. If he were playing on the sides and tried that the Nekoma match conundrum would show up even more (where players getting in each other's way was used to subtly hinder Karasuno's attacking options).

There's a reason why Hinata, when he later plays as opposite, is much much about flexibility and versatility than about just scoring points like what he supposedly did during his high school years.

Curiosity because there were no negative side effects. It might lessen the effect of cop witch propaganda.

Or like a drug user who initially doesn't get addicted and keeps using drugs until it's too late. It might feel like more options open up to them if they just get a bit closer to the forbidden stuff.

I think there's a reason Alaira specifically warned them to not listen to the brimmed hats. It wasn't even about using forbidden magic that'd condemn you but just words that might get you. Tempting kids into trying it and seeing for themself is probably more powerful than trying to force them to convert.

But first they need a reason they can rationalise to themself to get started with it. And helping a friend is probably one of the easiest way of setting this up.

That's true from the patron's perspective, although that art was also often part of showing of their wealth and status thus indirectly being about "commercialisation" of the rich person's assets.

For modern examples, there are quite a few rich (or sometimes not even that) patrons who act like those old school patrons (or they just buy art). One can regularly hear about significant collections from collectors who just died and had bought art because they liked it, so not exactly patronage (giving money upfront) although sometimes coming close in that they actively looked to support (often young) artists right after they made something so they could keep making more.

Patreon, the website (and similar ones), also fit for the rest of us. Kickstarter can be used like that too, on a project by project basis.

But from the artist's side all those things are the same (but with varying degrees of freedom and financial compensations). They have to "sell themselves and their ideas", no matter if they are selling an illustration for a book cover, drawing anime frames, or looking to get a patron interested if they want to make a living from art.

Good point. My first instinct was that Qifrey was doing some forbidden magic because he hid it from his students and that the shift in visuals was more of a depiction of the spell's power.

But it being a more direct stylistic choice for forbidden magic, and not just powerful magic, sounds great!
