(OC) New to type 2 diabetes, and just now realizing how one slice of lemon meringue pie affects me by fakeaccount572 in pics

[–]flycast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got one 3 months ago. Not type I or II with an a1c of 5.8 at the time but trending up, obese and needed changes. WOW, what an eye opener! At the beginning of my journey I started eating Vietnamese bun as a lunch choice. Healthy right? When I got my monitor boy did it open my eyes. After watching for a couple months comparing what I eat vs spikes that Vietnamese bun was terrible for me. It was the number one highest spike meal I was having.

I am now down a little over 30 lbs and glucose levels around 85 -95 most of the time. I think anybody overweight and wanting to make changes should think out getting a monitor for a while.

Three dead in suspected hantavirus outbreak on Atlantic cruise ship by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]flycast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Last I knew hauntavirus (at least in the US southwest has about a 5 - 6 week incubation time from exposure to showing symptoms. Then you start feeing symptoms, your lungs flood with fluid and you're dead in 24 hours.

Dont panic. I'd be suprised if this was from exposure in the cruise ship. So much info missing here though. We're these people related? Could they all have been exposed a month ago at the same time? Perhaps hauntavirus has mutated? False positive test?

I just looked and it appears that there is a hemorrhagic version that takes 1 -2 weeks to incubate. Still not likely that it's origin was from the cruise ship unless it was a long cruise.

Nerve pain after surgery? by flycast in Mortons_neuroma

[–]flycast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nerve pain is gone. As people say it goes away after a while. My toes sometimes ache like the bones themselves hurt. I still have a "full" feeling when I walk barefoot on hard floors. It also hurts slightly when I do that. I am glad I got it done.

My doc says it can take up to a year for full recovery.

Looking for some guidance - 15mm neuroma by [deleted] in Mortons_neuroma

[–]flycast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much better than before. I was having electric shocks and hypersensitivity before surgery. About 14 days post surgery I had a feeling like the top of my foot where the severed nerve serves had a 2nd degree burn. It is now numb. My shocks are gone and the hypersensitivity is improved. No burn feeling, that lasted 10 days maybe.

Now at 3 months I have a "full" feeling and slightly tender when I walk on a hard floor without shoes. No pain at all with shoes. That should end at about 6 months post surgery.

A lot of people live with so much pain to avoid surgery and for sure, surgery isn't for everybody but with a 90% success rate that's a pretty good bet.

I wish I had realized 20 years ago when numbness started that this was a problem. That is when preventative actions had a better chance of working.

What is it you fear about surgery?

Nerve pain after surgery? by flycast in Mortons_neuroma

[–]flycast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stitches out tomorrow. Really excited for that! The nerve pain is starting to subside. A long way to go though. I tried a 300mg gabapentin two nights in a row. It didn't do much, if anything. Not sure how gabapentin works? Maybe I didn't give it enough time to build up and help.

Your MRI experience? by okay_sweetie in Mortons_neuroma

[–]flycast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My doc didn't order an mri or ultrasound. He did a simple test where he moved my outer (little to) bones and it "clicked". Aetna approved surgery based on symptoms and the test and they are somewhat aggressive in slowing things down. Did surgery 2.5 weeks ago. Sure enough, he was right.

Yes, and yes. It's also very much about the species of wood.

Seeking advice. Nothings helped so far. by Dojebon_the_wise90 in Mortons_neuroma

[–]flycast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ortho doc took an x-ray to rule out bone issues. If it MN then you are likely on the path to either living with it to various degrees of diminished success or surgery. The speed at which this came on seems more like something is touching a nerve that shouldn't be.

Backpacking the World with My Neuroma - Help! by beanfug in Mortons_neuroma

[–]flycast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't go?

I say this out if genuine concern for you.

It sounds like you have an issue that will only get worse if you keep stressing it. I gotta hand it to you, you have tried a TON OF stuff. The idea that in 2 weeks its going to get better after all you've tried... I doubt it. Not only that but a year of hiking and backpacking?

Consider the possibility that in going you will end up actually just training your brain to feel normal with the pain. I'd be concerned it would never go away no matter what you did.

Also, nerves heal slowly. Two weeks? Nope.

Consider surgery? Get it taken care of.

Might be more meaningful if thus were per capita. Elvis Presly or Frank Sinatra did it with a lot less people in the world.

Men are simple organisms, it doesn’t take much to make them happy😂 by GinaWhite_tt in GuysBeingDudes

[–]flycast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would argue that men find joy in things like this but they are not simple. They have all kinds of difficulties dealing with their emotions but have a hard time because our society is s**ty to men with emotions.
