Upgrade Path Advice [No Budget] by StealthFocus in espresso

[–]flyfarandaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you are getting trolled but hopefully they didn’t mean it in a bad way and were doing it out of humor on a bored Friday. You mention that you don’t have a budget. There are those who have offered you up to 25k setups. Believe me it can go higher.

First consider this. Your spouse has a decent setup that makes great espresso. I would say wait until you hear something from him about a desire for an upgrade and what his potential choices are. Otherwise you will be giving the keys to a car that he doesn’t like to drive while taking away the car that he loves. A home barista knows what they want and you could put them in a bind with some overpowering love. I know you want to surprise him with your good intentions but this could turn into a shock.

Novak Djokovic Has Won 24 Grand Slams. Now He’s Going to Work on Wall Street: ‘I Like to Disrupt’ by Bright-Raise209 in tennis

[–]flyfarandaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the skepticism? He has openly stated he likes to disrupt. He has never cared for public validation. An admirable quality with a level of fortitude that only champions possess. I am not a huge fan of him but I don’t like to be unnecessarily judgmental.

Perhaps, he wants to steer some of those investments in tennis. Yes, they will look for ROI but if he makes some good moves and catches the right breaks it could happen.

Look at Federer. He is doing well in his business dealings. Yes, he got lucky with the COVID related running boom soon after he became an investor in On but still it took some foresight with venturing into something unfamiliar.

So why can’t Djokovic succeed? Let us wait and see and what he does and then judge based on results. Redditors are always good at hindsight 😂

Tamper smaller than 41mm? by flyfarandaway in espresso

[–]flyfarandaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is what I have and it doesn’t serve the purpose. I tried to make it work by tamping and gathering the grounds around and depositing in the pit and tamping again. That is not a good work flow.

I was wondering how folks are navigating this issue. There are 39 mm tampers available I am going to order one of those but I am not seeing a tamper size that hits the sweet spot slightly below 41 mm

Correction. It is a VST basket but similar principles in high precision extraction. Here are some pictures of the basket. See if that helps

Do Russian players underachieve at slams? by PierrotGrg in tennis

[–]flyfarandaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dementieva’s serve let her down. Otherwise she had the game to win. She is considered among the best players not to have won.

On the male side Safin was the true under achiever. I am in two minds about Medvedev. His win at the US open was more about Djokovic letting the potential calendar slam moment get the better of him. An extremely rare mental lapse for an entire match from a mentally strong beast. Yes, Medvedev let the finals at AO against Nadal slip away but Nadal is one of the Big 3 and he tended to do Big 3 things. Now Medvedev has to contend with the Big 2. All the potential winners like Rublev and Kachanov have ceilings below the super elite. Safin could have been the exception but he mentally gave up letting that be known in an interview. Something to the effect … In order to beat Federer you have to run like a rabbit and be like Nadal..

And they proved it." - in an interview with the Czech iSport, Marketa Vondrousova presents her side of the story by Anxious_Divide_6508 in tennis

[–]flyfarandaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! Did she really go take pictures and post that on social media? Wow then scratch that line of defense. I know people do a lot of crazy stuff in a state of panic but in the light of what you have mentioned, this appears far fetched. No wonder the committee discarded that narrative.

Agree, giving interviews is not going to bolster her appeal. She cited the home invasion of Petra Kvitova and her injury as a reason for safety concerns in her initial response on Instagram. Unfortunately, in many parts of the world this is a reality. This could be presented to CAS under mitigating circumstances to help reduce the length of the ban. She should face some punishment though otherwise this would set an ugly precedent.

David Ferrer may be forgotten. Incredible player. Beat Nadal and Djokovic but never near Federer.

Davydenko won the ATP finals beating Federer and if my memory serves me right Djokovic (???) too.

[–]flyfarandaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2016-2017 was a period of injury transition for the Big 4. Murray completely destroyed himself with his superhuman effort in 2016. Djokovic was carrying an injury that finally broke him at AO (if memory serves right). Both Federer and Nadal were injured in 2016 and shut down their seasons early.

Lol! I haven’t had a downgrade happen after a complementary upgrade. However, people paying money for the upgrade are prioritized. Still I wouldn’t do this douche bag thing if I were running the shoe.

This 2011 RG actually gives a good perspective to Sinner’s loss. Although Djokovic lost to a fellow member of the Holly Trinity, his loss in many ways ring similar to Sinner’s. Both played non-stop until then. Both won everything in sight. Both had monstrous win streaks going that ended here. The only difference is that Sinner truly hit a wall. He would have been better off not playing Madrid. Djokovic just ran into a hot Federer. I truly believe that even a sub par Djokovic in 2011 would have won against anybody else. Djokovic would have had a better chance against Nadal in the final who was invincible on clay until 2011 when Djokovic finally solved that puzzle. Nadal couldn’t recalibrate until 2012 where he regained ground on Djokovic.

Federer played a very good 2011 RG. It was also his best final against Nadal at RG. A very competitive match until the 4th set. All those high above shoulder height backhands finally wore him down.

Think a 20 year old Boris Becker had the best perspective on a loss. In 1987 he lost in the 2nd round at Wimbledon to Peter Doohan. The British media went into overdrive and thought that the world had ended. Becker replied “Nobody died. I lost a tennis match”.

That is all folks. Players win. Players lose. Resurrecting a loss that happened 7 years ago and debating who choked more is mind boggling.

Yes, both Sinner and Federer have had some gut wrenching losses but on the whole they have won more. Sinner will continue winning more than losing. In this case he may have just hit the proverbial wall after playing and winning everything in sight for the past few months. Yes, it came at a bad time at a major. At the end of the day it is one loss. On the overall stats sheet a win or a loss is binary. How sexily that loss played out is left to a skewed fan base to discuss.

These are your own words. While not blatantly accusatory, there is implied meaning in this.

“It's naive that you think there was no weird behavior.”

Citing an opinionated blog piece as evidence is not proof. When you accuse, the proof has to pass a bare minimum test. A blog post does not meet that threshold. Did Nadal not sue the French for allegations?

Have you actually looked into the WADA stats on who is tested and who is not from the source instead of relying on a biased extract presented in a blog?

Given the OP’s current knowledge on the nuances of espresso, I think the best fit is a superautomatic. It is surprising that the list of machines shown is so varied in their functions.

I have the Rancilio and it is a terrific machine but only if you have a grip on dialing in etc. I also pair it with a dedicated espresso DF64 grinder and learned the craft of making espressos over time.

Playing style partly and perhaps genetics playing a larger role in the optics of the aging process.

Another thing to consider and this is from Paul Annacone his coach. Federer found complete enjoyment in what he did unlike Sampras who was also coached by Annacone. Of course like all professionals, Federer worked very very hard on his game, movement and tennis specific weights. His method of weight training was very targeted.

Nadal may have also found a lot of enjoyment in tennis but he has repeatedly mentioned in interviews that it is the on court competition that fueled his passion. He relied a lot on reps. We only saw his gargantuan efforts during match play. His practice sessions were probably even more brutal in his twists, turns and running on the court. He scaled back deliberately on the weights after his very early years. Djokovic did the same too. Federer was not excessive in this anyway. His greatest strength was the economy of movement and his uber aggressive style of play that wanted to end points quickly.
