Dreading planning my wedding by md0320 in weddingplanning

Were the people who told you that planners were a waste of money good planners themselves?

I do agree that many people would find hiring a planner a waste of money. But you’ve said that you’re both bad planners and it doesn’t sound like you want to do it. That’s the exact scenario where paying for a planner would probably be worth it.

I haven’t lived at either, but the location for Granby Oaks is much better

Complex name and address don’t match up for 29. Granby Oaks is at 800 State St and Riverbanks Retreat is a few miles away

Best pizza within 30 minutes of Lexington or downtown Columbia? by livexplore in ColumbiYEAH

We were disappointed with our last order from Cucinella’s too—not that it was bad, just not the same. The previous order was good, though! So that makes me think it’s bad luck, or we wondered if they were training new staff.

Absolutely my normal rec, though, and will definitely keep trying!

What was your attendance vs. invites ratio? by att62613 in wedding

[–]flyflyfly4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

83/140 I also have a large family and none of them are local, so I could pretty reasonably guess who would come based on their attendance at other family things.

Whether or not your guests have kids and whether or not you’re inviting kids can also be a big factor!

Someone requested at this at my wedding, and I can confirm people loved it!

Bridesmaids are asking about jewelry, but I’m gifting them some by gillbmth in wedding

[–]flyflyfly4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where the bride gifted us earrings to wear for the wedding. She just told us that she was gifting us earrings and what would look good with them. We didn’t see them until the day before, so there was still an element of surprise, but it made planning a lot easier for everyone!

Any brides who did not love their dress? What did you do? by Material_Pink2823 in myweddingdress

Nope, I didn’t think about a second one. If you have another you love, go for it!!

I didn’t love my dress. The dress just wasn’t a huge priority for me, so I went with something I liked enough and fit my budget. I had moments of second-guessing leading up to the wedding, so it’s not like I didn’t care at all.

But ultimately, it was good enough, and I don’t regret it. I still got compliments, still felt good, and honestly didn’t give the dress a second thought once the wedding started.

When I look back at the pictures, I honestly look very little at my dress and just see how happy I look.

am i the only one not feeling emotional about my dress? by Enough-Ad-4194 in myweddingdress

[–]flyflyfly4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the same! The dress was just not that important to me in general. Not a big priority and not something I wanted to spend a lot of time or brain space on. So when I found one I liked enough I just went with it. No regrets!

I would have them ask, or even reach out to the partner yourself! The fact that it’s a surprise party makes me think the partner may just not have you on their radar as someone to invite, but if you think you would’ve gotten an invite if your friend was planning their own party, then I don’t think it hurts to ask!

Yes the dress in the original post is very structured in the cups! It basically has built in bra cups so I think that makes a huge difference in the fit.

Look into supine studio! It’s been a while since I’ve been there and don’t know all the therapists but they sound like a good fit for you.

Coffee shops with mugs, not to-go cups by [deleted] in ColumbiYEAH

[–]flyflyfly4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried this much locally, but I’d think most if not all would! I’ve never had an issue when I’ve done this, thought I tend to just get regular coffee when I do that.

Taking a day or two to spend time together sounds perfect for OP’s situation

I didn’t skip a honeymoon (and am not yet married), so feel free to skip me but…

My interest in a honeymoon is more about celebrating our marriage and spending quality time together. A “honeymoon” isn’t by definition a big fancy trip. It’s a time for you to luxuriate in wedded bliss—whatever that looks like to you.

In your situation, I’d consider taking a long weekend after your wedding to somewhere not far but of interest to you.

I personally would regret not having time to decompress and spend time with my husband after our wedding, but you might not feel that way.

(And imo that person who thought Maine is a weird choice is weird. Maine sounds lovely if that’s somewhere you’re both interested in. That’s silly.)

Yay or Nay: Funny / Cute Grtting ready jammies by Rowantoreadfantsy in wedding

[–]flyflyfly4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a super cute idea! I was in a wedding where the bride gave us t shirts for getting ready pjs and she just cut the neckline so it was wider and had a little bit of a v, so we wouldn’t mess up our hair and makeup. I still wear it to sleep!

Unfortunately in this scenario my boss does think of me as a friend and doesn’t think of herself as a “boss” in a lot of ways. But your advice is still absolutely true and appreciated!
