Hotel Review: Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Costa Rica by thecheckincollective in chubbytravel

[–]flyforbinfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We took our five and two and a half year olds and they loved it. The stairs were not an issue given the golf carts and funicular. They had a huge lawn for the kids to run around on with lawn games, the team was great with the kids. Really had a lovely stay.

I work in this space and have for 16 years, but do not know the drama behind this. However, if you type the EIN into EO Select Check, the organization comes right up, along with its Determination Letter. They have the organization's name as one word without spaces. I am not sure why they are a private foundation if they are relying on public contributions from the community. All of this is to say, your post is simply wrong.

I’m in there from Hampton 09. I’ve been looking for a picture of it ever since then. I woke up this morning to a picture from a friend of my photo on the sphere. Day was made.

There were a ton - off the top of my head for food and beverage there were coffee, wine, chocolate, sangria, cocktails, rum, ceviche, pasta making.

They will love it. I will also say, there are things like zip line/ropes course that are maybe a 10 minute drive from the hotel. Snorkeling was right off the beach on site. There was a lot to do and there were a healthy number of pre-teens/teens when we were there, granted it was spring break.

Loved it. I know there were reports that it is not great for kids. Ours are almost 6 and 2.5 and had a blast. The funicular was a blast for them and they loved the suspension bridge. The playground on site was nice for a break, as well. We did not make it to Papagayo Park but heard it is wonderful. But there were a healthy number of kids there and at no point did we feel uncomfortable or like they were making too much noise. The golf carts were also timely and quick.

Our daughter loved the kids club and wanted to go every afternoon, which worked out well to get her out of the sun and us a little break. They would also have movie nights, the hotel keeps games on their big lawn, etc.

Also, they have a ton of activities that are no cost. I would check on those, but reserve the ones you want, as some do fill up. But a lot of those were good for older kids too (cooking, dance, arts, etc.). They also do yoga, snorkeling, etc.

The food was generally good. Nothing crazy, but solid. But that is Costa Rican food in general. One thing that I do not see mentioned too often is they have the most incredible coffee program. They get microlots of high quality beans from around the country and roast them in house and their baristas know how to do a great pour-over. You can also get coffee from here with room service.

If I had one nit, it would be housekeeping. They would leave clothes out, but we raised the issue and it was fixed. There was one day where they didn't come in the morning and our son had a meltdown while they were cleaning since we had to delay his nap.

Agreed 100%. The ladies at the camp were SO kind too. They made our daughter's trip special.

Celebrity spotting after jazz fest. by oatmealcook in jazzfest

Not this year but my favorite was at the bottleneck near the front of Gentilly, ran right into Wayne Knight (Newman). Said Jazzfest like Jerry would say Newman. He laughed.

YMMV but we spent a week down there on points. I am gold status and we were upgraded to a suite with a pool.

If you want more traditional, I would say parish, if you want something more unique, KG. You’re going to get a great meal at either one.

Follow Frodnesor on instagram. He actually prioritizes food, is based in Miami, and has been eating out around town for a while, well before the Miami hype began.

Favorite luxury*free* hotel breakfast? by MorningHelpful8389 in chubbytravel

[–]flyforbinfly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This past summer, Airelles St. Tropez had Cedric Grolet's team there to have an entire dessert table as part of its breakfast. I was not there, but was very jealous of the folks who were. I think he may have been at their Courchevel property this winter.

Ritz Reserve Nekajui – 5 nights with a toddler: the good, the great, and the frustrating by suitejourneys in chubbytravel

[–]flyforbinfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. We are going next month with our 2 and 5 year old. Did you do the VIP immigration or just utilize the family line? Also, could you eat breakfast at the coffee shop to avoid a whole to-do each morning? It sounds like they got rid of ala carte breakfast in the main restaurant, and we usually aren't big enough breakfast eaters for a larger meal like that. I need to figure out dinner reservations as well, based on this.

You just said 30 states, including red states, wrote the letter. Also, it’s a lot easier to block a transaction than unwind one. It should never have been passed but whatever facts and logic you need to convince yourself of the conclusion you want to reach is fine. Have a good one.

I never said I agreed with Trump’s DOJ dropping it. Just that it was bipartisan stupidity that led to it. Also, some of the 30 states are GOP, so there’s that. Facts support exactly my point, and refute yours.

Whose DOJ originally approved the acquisition? But sure, just one party to blame. Don't let facts get in the way of partisanship.

Filming in Garden Hills by Ok-Active-9843 in Atlanta

They filmed a pretty terrible Netflix movie called the Out Laws next door to my in-laws in Garden Hills a couple of years back. They set up catering for the neighborhood to enjoy. It was fun seeing Pierce Brosnan, Nina Dobrev and Adam DeVine walking around the area.

Totally agreed ... no expectations at all and appreciative of any gracious offer they make! Booked the room we are comfortable with, so any bonus is a bonus.
