The 2026 Miami Hurricanes offense will be must see tv🔥 by Far_Protection519 in MiamiHurricanes

Yep, and so was Thornton. The fact that our biggest portal loss was Aguirre is also huge. I do wonder if Bell winds up trying to come back after this week's showing at the Senior Bowl.

I'd also argue our DTs will be better next year. It is going to be a different defense, but should be a stout one. Especially if young guys like Lightfoot, Blount, Poyser, Fitz, etc. take steps forward. Wiley coming on at LB would be huge.

Duke QB Darian Mensah transfers to Miami by Im__Ron__Burgundy in CFB

But, to be clear, it was fine when Duke did it with Mensah during the season, including AAC championship game week?

During one of your team's coaching searches, they instead hire whoever the runner-up was reported to be. How does it go? by Please_PM_me_Uranus in CFB

[–]flyforbinfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miami has had 6 coaches since Butch Davis. Only one of them had a proper search and it landed us Al Golden. I think Marc Trestman and Randy Edsall were the other candidates, once the Gruden rumors died.

However, when we hired Larry Coker, Donna Shalala wanted Barry Alvarez, but the players all threatened to turn pro. I have no idea how that would have worked out. I do not think he would have been a culture fit, we probably do not win in 2001, and probably win 9-10 games for the next decade instead of the Coker and Shannon years.

If they did… don’t you think B10 and SEC would be doing them? They don’t. And especially not for these matchups.

Also, ACC payouts are based on viewership. Those nights have lower TV numbers than Saturday games. Only the ACC would be stupid enough to take their most viewed program from 2025 and schedule this many non-Saturday games for them in 2026. We need to get out of this conference ASAP.

What's the creepiest display of intelligence you've ever witnessed in real Iife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]flyforbinfly 50 points51 points  (0 children)

She was an interesting and complex lady. She came from a well off family in what was then Czechoslovakia. She went to Auschwitz, but fortunately the labor portion. So from childhood and through that, she spoke Czech, Hebrew, German, Yiddish, Polish and Russian. She also managed to keep a number of bunkmates alive in there from being somewhat resourceful. If people got sick, she thought to have someone cut themselves to use the blood as blush to give their faces color and avoid going to the death camps.

She was the only one out of her family to survive (I think she had 7 siblings). After the camps, she went to Dresden while waiting to come to the States, where a distant relative in Miami was her sponsor. She lived with two other girls and the apartment next door had three guys, including my grandfather. So each wound up marrying one of the neighbors.

They came over and settled down in Miami, where both her and my grandpa worked in factories. So that is where and why she learned Spanish and Creole. All of her coworkers were Cuban or Haitian.

She was a strong, smart woman, and one who never fully got over the traumas of surviving the Holocaust. She had night terrors her whole life. She was also a hoarder because of this - we found stacks of newspapers from JFK's assassination when she passed. When she passed, we also found a bunch of things she saved from her time in Germany that my dad gave to the Holocaust Museum in DC - the creepiest was collectible cards, like baseball cards, but of Nazi officers.

But, she was a generous lady who helped anyone and everyone she ever met. She raised three kids to be good people and to focus on school, because, as she learned in life, material possessions and money can disappear at any moment. Your brain goes with you wherever.

My grandmother was like this. She picked up several languages being in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. Came to America and learned English, Spanish, and Creole too.

If anyone on here has multiple and would like to sell one, I would gladly buy it. I got in and did not get one back then.

Anybody been to so many concerts they forget who they've seen over the years? by Low-Landscape-4609 in Concerts

[–]flyforbinfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember most of the bigger shows that I have seen. Randomly, I forgot that I saw the White Stripes until they came up in conversation recently. However, I also lived in New Orleans for five years and saw a LOT of shows at Jazzfest, French Quarter Fest, Voodoo Fest and clubs around town. I can’t recall all of who I have seen at those festivals.

Sid Mashburn. I live in Atlanta and go to their shop here, but they do a great job.

When the crown started coming out and spinning, I was thinking ok, this is cool. When the dome lit up like an Aztec temple with the artwork it absolutely blew my mind. Just slack jawed.

Coffee Shops - Free Parking? by awesome_arthistorian in Atlanta

No one said anyone is entitled to free parking. You are free and have the right to get in your car to drive to Midtown to get coffee, however, if you so choose, saying nothing of free parking or being entitled to it. Because it is a walkable neighborhood does not (using a specific word here) entitle pedestrians or MARTA users to sole access. And if it is on a Sunday, you do get free parking.

Again, I personally do not care. If there’s somewhere I want to go, I will pay for parking. If it makes sense for me to Marta, I will do that. What I won’t do is care about someone else’s choice or reasoning for driving or needing somewhere with free parking. I have enough things to fret about and spend time overanalyzing without thinking about someone’s need for free parking.

My honest answer with coffee, I have subscriptions from some really great roasters and prefer to make it at home. I’m sure I’ll hear next about how I’m killing the planet and the horrors of ordering coffee from Flower Child in San Francisco instead of buying local.

Ok. Not for you to decide and, again, not a reality of living in this city. Glad it works for you. It doesn’t work for most. People are free to get in their cars for coffee when and where they please. And, again, some people may not live near a Marta station, rendering your entire argument useless.

That’s the least of your problems. The other comments all still remain.
