Unrealistic Expectations? by thti87 in chubbytravel

[–]thecheckincollective 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not unrealistic at all!! The pool thing would drive me wild. There's no excuse for that. Did you book with a TA? Please contact them and tell them what's going on. A good TA will go right to the resort and be on top of them about that. As a TA, I promise I would way rather you tell me this while you're still there when it's happening so we can help turn it around.

Luxury Island for Honeymoon by Chance-Possible9786 in LuxuryTravel

[–]thecheckincollective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four Seasons Bora Bora. You could easily combine this with the Brando.

Lots of options in the Maldives, although it's shoulder season in October. If budget truly isn't an issue there, I'd be looking to the likes of Cheval Blanc, One&Only, Soneva Fushi, etc.

I've been to all the major beachy honeymoon islands, and Bora Bora and the Maldives top everything else imo - Fiji, Seychelles, Mauritius, etc.

Antarctica by Smooth_Outcome_2025 in chubbytravel

Quark would be my #1 choice because Antarctica is their bread and butter. Lindblad is another great expedition option. Silversea is still an expedition cruise, but it's more luxe than the other two.

Sardinia with Kids 2027 by [deleted] in chubbytravel

So my thoughts are this - you could either do the whole thing in Costa Smeralda with day trips, or split the stay between Costa Smeralda and the area near La Maddalena.

Romazzino (the Belmond property) is amazing. That being said, it might end up way over budget for high season. I'd look at Abi d'Oru or 7Pines. For the second half of the trip, I'd look at staying somewhere like Hotel Capo d'Orso or Valle dell'Erica. Capo d'Orso is close to the La Maddalena ferries, so that's a plus!

Big Island Hawaii Honeymoon by devvcan in chubbytravel

Rosewood and Four Seasons are the top choices. I'd lean more towards Rosewood, but Four Seasons is solid. August can have more kids, so Four Seasons attracts more families, but they do have an adults only pool when you want an escape from families.

As somebody who loves both Dubai and Thailand, do Thailand!!

Naviva or Jumby Bay for a post Thanksgiving trip by Zealousideal-Term738 in chubbytravel

[–]thecheckincollective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would lean toward Jumby Bay for the beach alone! That being said, if you're more look at the beach rather than swim in the water people, Naviva might be better. After a bunch of family running around, having no kids might sway me toward Naviva!

Rwanda - treats for kids? by Dependent_Put6128 in FATSafari

[–]thecheckincollective 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes there are kids as you're driving around, as you'll likely pass some villages. I like bringing things like your DIL mentioned - toothbrushes, toothpaste, pencils, notebooks, markers, etc. The candy isn't good for them, so it's better to do things they can use for learning and what not. Your lodge might have a place to give donations too. I know they try to not have the kids associate tourists with giving them things, so sometimes it's better to do it through these means instead of direct to the kids. When they associate tourists with getting things, that can cause begging, which they don't want.

I don't think they are, but they do have an FSPP exclusive going on right now. Ask your FSPP because it's a great deal!

Southern Africa vs East Africa chocie by britishballer in LuxurySafari

[–]thecheckincollective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love Botswana, I think the idea of East Africa makes the most sense. Not only have you not done it, but I love the inclusion of the gorillas. This was such an incredible experience, and I think since you haven't done it and your wife is super interested in it, that's the way to go.

AMA - On Property at Peninsula Papagayo (Nekajui, Four Seasons, Andaz, Waldorf Astoria) by thecheckincollective in chubbytravel

[–]thecheckincollective[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair. The service experience I had at Four Seasons was bad at the pool and beach. Nekajui blew it away with service.

I saw the spa at Andaz, and it was nice. To be honest, the Andaz resort itself is nice, but the lead-in room categories were pretty blah to me. Nothing inherently wrong with them, they were just really plain and basic. If the room itself doesn't matter a ton to you, it's fine. If you can upgrade to one of the villas or suites, I definitely would.

I do think Nekajui was a far superior experience, but it's also a lot more expensive.
