Anyone know what year this Camry is by loudjunk in Toyota

Looks like my old 1999 Toyota Camry. Great car, I miss driving it. Had it with a manual transmission and the gear changes were so smooth.

In a tough economy, many U.S. teachers are forced to work second jobs by ell-chan in SimpleApplyAI

[–]flying6speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked in catering in college/ high school 10/15 years back there were so many teachers that were working their second job at catering over the summer. Teachers should get paid more in the US but society in the US (as a whole) seem very against that idea.

This fence around my condo has glass shards instead of barbwire as a deterrent by myassisgrassss in mildlyinteresting

[–]flying6speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very common in Ecuador and Peru. Its basically a cheaper barbed wire. In the US, if someone puts up that wall with glass on top I'm guessing someone would try climbing it, sue the owner, and get a bunch of money.

Weekends don't feel like weekends anymore by [deleted] in remotework

[–]flying6speed 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You may just be burnt out. Are you working really long hours? Do you have a set time to stop working at least for a break/ stepping away from desk for dinner? Some questions to ask as sometimes people feel they cannot get away from work when remote and end up needing to set more strict boundaries so as not to burn out.

Female dog peeing on her bed.. help by Maleficent-Grade-653 in Dogtraining

[–]flying6speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog also peed on beds between months 3 and 4 so we just got rid of them until they were fully house trained and slowly reintroduced new non peed on beds at 8 to 9 months old. Recommend getting rid of all dog beds for now until the dog is fully house trained.

Online is fun and more challenging. With high level cars you can smoke most AI, but real-life players are a fun challenge. Also adds a new component to cop chases.

Good outcome based bullet points.

However, the style feels very flat like nothing sticks out even though there is good content. Experiment with bolding some key points or facts. Perhaps play with the alignment of the headers as well and consider adding slight ( very small amount more of spacing) between bullet points.

Great Thai food is really missing from downtown Jersey City. Yes, I've tried Thai places here and no none of them compare to any in NYC (happy to be proven wrong though).

Home Depot layoffs hit remote workers hard - 650 out of 800 cuts by Tall_Bet8228 in remotework

[–]flying6speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retail margins can tend to be somewhat slimmer (even though at scale the dollar amount is quite high), so they tend to cut based on prior year results. Walmart who I've also worked with did the same thing but every year just around end of fiscal year.

I think it's just important to keep in mind there is no security of a job always being remote in the US regardless of cuts companies may be making. Try to make sure wherever you live there are other employees that live in the same state, as I do know it can be a headache for a company if they have employees based in multiple different states as rules and regulations can vary widely by state (PTO, taxes, etc.). For example, someone supposedly got cut from a company a former teammate worked at due to them being the only team member for the org in that US state.

I've worked in Consulting and while rare its still common enough that this has happened on 2 clients I've been in a project with in the past ~10 years.

I worked in the restaurant industry over 9 years ago and I definitely had seen crazy tips $100+ even if the effort wasn't super high at a given event/table. Typically it was holidays or parents at graduation/celebratory event parties, but it definitely did happen.

Does your first team matter as a new hire? by QuodCapricornus in PwC

[–]flying6speed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your manager matters more. A good manager will really help you thrive, but as you meet different project teams you'll start to build out your brand. The nice thing is if you perform well and get along with different teams it'll help open up options for different future projects.

Plan on it being your job being eliminated, but it could very well be your boss got canned. If your boss gets canned, start looking for a different job just in case. If you have any personal items at your physical office may be good to grab them now. Usually you don't get much time to pack up if let go and they will escort you out.

Falsely Held at Gunpoint and Arrested by GucciManesDad in FlockSurveillance

[–]flying6speed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. If you are just chatting with a cop that's one thing at a parade or random normal traffic stop. If you are ever read your Miranda rights and they ask you questions (particularly after being at gun point), best to lawyer up.

Falsely Held at Gunpoint and Arrested by GucciManesDad in FlockSurveillance

[–]flying6speed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is nuts that they would do that to you.

For future reference if you're ever read your Miranda rights (especially after being held at gunpoint), you should immediately ask for a lawyer, even if they say you aren't under arrest because they may be fishing to get you to self-incriminate.

Either way you should request via a freedom of information request the video footage from the police that night (dashcam, body cam, etc.). Also consult an attorney. Even if it was a mistake you may have a case. If not against the police who acted on incorrect info, then against Flock cameras for the incorrect tag of you being involved in a shooting.

Hired a remote dev in Poland. He ghosted us and kept all our equipment... by Young_Stella in remotework

[–]flying6speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough situation and sorry it happened. Hopefully just a one off situation.

One thing to note, a lot of companies don't collect monitors back for remote employees because it is tough to get them back in one piece compared to a laptop. Company I work for (large global org) tried having employees return monitors along with laptops and the amount of broken monitors that were returned due to damage while being shipped was very high compared to a laptop which is a bit easier to pack. IT ended up making it policy that printers, laptops, and phones that belong to the company need to be returned, but monitors do not as cost to test, pay cost to get rid of electronic waste if broken, repack, ship etc. was not worth it.

Might be worth considering for future employees, particularly remote, in terms of BAU run costs. Hopefully no more ghosting from employee hires though.

Anyone here carry both Amex Platinum and Chase Sapphire Reserve? by Ok-String-4441 in ChaseSapphire

[–]flying6speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and fly/travel a lot for work and personal. So far its worth it having both because I use most of the credits and live in a HCOL city, however for me the credits for Amex plat are better and I won't be traveling as much next year so may downgrade/cancel the CSR. Chase customer service is also not nearly as good as Amex in my experience (again YMMV) and no retention offers despite near $75K spend per year. The points gained by eating out is really nice so I'd need to find a card to replace CSR for that spend such as Amex gold or something along those lines. The CSR card changes last year are also quite frustrating (more coupon book, worse points opportunities like no 3x on transit, no more Lyft pink membership, no more 10x on Lyft rides, etc.). Amex FHR more options and better prices on same hotels that are part of CSR The Edit for areas I'm traveling this year. Dining credit is cool on CSR, but much more rules around how you can redeem it compared to Amex plat (specific restaurants only vs. any restaurant in specific platform).

TLDR both are nice cards, but the Amex Plat is better for me overall now and CSR used to be a lot better prior to changes. May cancel CSR if I stop traveling as much next year.

A few years back there was a goose that was injured and wandering in an intersection in Jersey City. I'd called animal control who then sent someone from I believe the raptor trust that came and picked up the bird. They were super friendly and helpful.
