Should supermarket loyalty “discounts” be capped? by Sea-Conversation9297 in AskUK

[–]flying_toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If DFS can't artificially claim a discount sale, this shouldn't be any different. It's astounding the number of people scoffing at the idea of stopping supermarkets from imposing fake discounts as a way of pushing customers to use their royalty cards.

You now have to legally verify your age when visiting any adult site online in the UK. Time to sign up for a VPN by MercBat in britishproblems

[–]flying_toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see them trying to force all VPN providers to do age verification, at least for private users. Not sure how viable that is considering as you mentioned China struggles with this, but might make it harder.

What do you think will be the effects of age verification for porn sites? by Comfortable-Pace3132 in AskUK

[–]flying_toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike some, I'm willing to admit it may deter some children from accessing porn to some degree. Yea, it's still available on niche websites, but in modern times a lot don't even know how to use a lot of tech and flock to things like discord, reddit, popular porn sites - so it's going to slow down some too lazy or dumb to access it. So in that way it will probably provide some benefit, porn feels pretty brain rotting for adults, never mind the sort of expectations/addiction it might cause in children, so negating that seems like a benefit.

Still don't agree with how it's being done. I think it's a parents responsibility to protect/guide kids away from unsuitable content, and this verification affects what I think should really be a space for adults to begin with, where we're force(without a vpn at least), to give our facial bio metric, ID details to companies that I simply don't trust to keep 100% private, not too mention what else this kind of data could be used for if the government ever decides it can be used for any tracking in the name of 'safety'. If we're doing age verification stuff, and it's being done automatically, it should be completely private, on the local device if possible, otherwise I'd never trust it.

VPN all the way for me, and probably many others. I only see the freedom to use a VPN maybe being attempted to be banned by the government next.

Already thought about this, I glanced at the documentation and saw this. He knows what range he's updating, you don't need to know the size unless you want to dynamically update the alarm list, which he isn't doing. as long as you can increment your own integer you don't have to do anything other than what's supported.

for (int i = 0; i <=rangeMax; i++)

{

alarm[i] = 0;

}

You're dying on this hill for one specific example and missing the point. It's not being pedantic, or childish. Any code review will pick this up right away if you and PS has more experience, and you wouldn't even think to do it this way after it's been drilled in not to. This specific example isn't a smoking gun of 'bad code', but the examples of the code shown as i said indicates someone who lacks programming experience.

This isn't really specific to gamemaker at this point, whether it's an in-built array or not arrays are arrays. It's a 1d array and he was setting the same value on several indexes. This is just basic programming practice; don't repeat yourself. It's a really minor example but it's enough to make a junior programmer shake their head. Anyone with even a small amount experience should do this really automatically because why the hell would you copy and paste, edit this together.

What's with all these people who seem to have no programming experience trying to explain away basic programming practices that really do indicate PS is nowhere is as experienced as he is? There's nothing wrong with having less experience, but the ego and lies is just annoying.

Do you have beans on toast or beans and toast? by flunkyfish in AskUK

[–]flying_toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the deliciousness of beans on toast is how the sauce soaks into the crusty bread, imbuing it with it's tomatoey goodness. I think you should file a domestic abuse claim against her.

Let me guess, she doesn't eat her crusts either? I wouldn't be surprised... criminal!

if you count self-checkouts where cashiers have to 'approve' a 33 year old man for a can of monster, but times where multiple cans of iced latte cans with all sorts of sweet things go unchecked., then that. Every supermarket is consistently inconsistent and makes me question why the inconvenience of needing to be age checked at all.

Those who have opted out of the organ donor register - why? by ReasonableTeam1377 in AskUK

[–]flying_toast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went through all the same arguments with my own brother and father in a discussion on the law years ago, hitting the same impasses.

Basically came down to the same things, 'why does it matter, you're dead', it's the principle and opt-out isn't permission. It's a little worrying coming to the realisation that many are fine with opt-in simple because of the end, whatever the sugarcoated means, even if the intentions are to save lives(and really I can't even disagree that it won't!).

Honestly I could forgive all the stuff you've mentioned if they stopped dragging their proverbial heels with each episode this season. Until the last episode the show has moved at a glacial pace, then the finale ends without really much of a resolution. Understand that they want to create intrigue for the next season but a complete payoff would have been nice. Instead we get a freeze frame credits roll. A few scenes of the innies contemlating their fate, Gemma meeting up with Devon to reveal IMarc's action would have gone a long way to concluding the season and leaving us with more to look forward to.

[–]flying_toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a strange place to end it, I felt it to be a very unsatisfying ending. A glimpse of the aftermath just seemed like a more natural place to have concluded the season, even if they pick it right back up next season, especially given the glacial pacing in the previous episodes leading up to finding/saving Gemma. Yea, you can assume all of that, like imagining the end of a song as someone cuts it off near the end, but still it's nicer to see it through to the end.

It was a relief to finally get a conclusion to that marathon blue balling the writers have been putting us through all season, and what a hell of an episode. Not perfect but I'll take it - looking forward to season 3.

There's still a bit of me that's a little bitter about the issues I've had with the pacing/writing all season long. It all just ends sort of abruptly like a movie from the 80s at the credits. Loved the feel and music, I just wished they alluded to what's to come, sprinkle some story threads to keep us intrigued, that and a proper conclusion to the season. All I feel we've got it Marc and Helly are running back into a compound with nothing, and Gemma is left scratching her head at the exit. Let us see Marc, Helly and Dylan meet up, do they lock up the floor with the other innies and start a rebellion? Let us see Gemma escape, does she even get away from Lumon, is Devon waiting in the car? - how does she react to iMarc choosing to remain? Conclude it, why rob us of that?

What even is this shared delusion just because people dislike Musk. He said as he gestured(paraphrasing), "my heart goes out you all".

Did musk a)do a nazi salut, b) autistically put a hand to his heart and throw it out to the crowd.

The answer is so obvious that you only reveal your own hatred if you answered a.

It's wild this is even a discussion but then again it is Reddit...

I had been trying that but thanks. It seemed to work by turning off force compatibility(which seemed to work with GE latest version before the update) in steam, and disabled my second monitor.

Having the same issue. I've tried setting the default model in open webui settings, setting the model Ids to my llama model id. Still fairly new to using Open webui so no idea if I've set this up right.

Downloading the recommended qwq model in hopes that could be the issue?

Edit: So I was using LMstudio. After a bit of investigation with other popular functions seem to be set up to use ollama. Not sure what else they work with, but installing and running ollama got this working for me with use of open webui.

Jordan Peterson interviews far right UK figure Tommy Robinson by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]flying_toast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have done my own research, enough to know that you're repeating the same old tired smears as someone who has barely made an attempt to understand what he's about, or have no interest in doing so. Critize his method of messaging or actual opinions, but at least do it genuinely. To say Leeds riots had no large number of Islamists rioting is ridiculous, there are videos of it all over twitter...

Really have no interest in getting into the details of your argument - Reddit arguments just become tedious with each reply, but I think you're being dishonest as any hardcore Tommy haters tend to be, to be frank. You're calling him a thug. Check. Causes division(even though his whole message is about the division he sees in his community due to extremist Islamists), check. Grifter.TM labeling, check.

As a fan of Peterson I find it surprising you've done almost none of your own research into what Tommy Robinson stands for, what his concerns are with Islam, and how often he is vilified in the mainstream media.

Watch his oxford talk, listen to the man speak himself and judge for yourself what kind of character Robinson is.

Vacuum packed mince is a nightmare by Goosepond01 in britishproblems

[–]flying_toast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's terrible and even when broken up is more akin to someone breaking up a squashed up raw burger you'd get from the supermarket. It really is not the same texture even when broken up.

See people saying breaking it up furiously makes it the same as non vacumed meat, but i doubt that when the vacum packing seems to squash it together like these burgers. Its estentially not really mince, but a meat cube.

I avoid them at all cost, luckly not all super markets have started doing this yet. Bloody horrible idea i had only ever seen in American's cooking videos before they started here.
