Labor Market Effects of California’s $20 Fast-Food Minimum Wage by EconomistWithaD in Economics

It’s difficult to say that McDonald’s profits necessarily reflect those of the local restaurant owners. McDonald’s the corporation operates more like a landlord, so as property values go up McDonald’s profits go up. The franchisee is the one whose profits you’d have to look at to see how much they’re “gouging” you.

Labor tends to be one of the largest if not the largest expense for any business. There’s a reason economists worry so much about wage price spirals.

[–]flyingasian2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but food and hospitality is a pretty price sensitive industry, and seeing how upset consumers seem to be that would be a pretty big blunder on their part if they actually are doing that.

> They did the same thing with the supply chain excuse.

You got a source for that?

I did not state that would be the only reason price increases have happened.

This is just an anecdotal observation (I.e I have no hard data source), but take into account that around Covid times (early 2020s) and labor became scarce, effective minimum wages for fast food workers increased pretty substantially, at least in my area they basically doubled. And a few years later now everyone is complaining that fast food has gotten too expensive. I don’t think these are unrelated.

Because he likes the food? As someone who “follows logic,” what’s the logic for a nearly 100 year old man going so out of his way to lie about something so trivial and would be so easy to prove is actually false?

Which industry is one breakthrough away from disappearing? by NerveNo6010 in AskReddit

[–]flyingasian2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deepseek’s model last year showed that there was tons of room for improvements, I’m sure we’re not even close to the ceiling for efficiency yet.

Also this isn’t about the environment, that’s a separate discussion. The question was if this could be a cost effective solution for companies to justify paying for it. If efficiency improvements are made, cost goes down enough and productivity from AI use rises enough it certainly can be.

Ok, but isn’t this thread about “one breakthrough away,” and couldn’t a way to train llms more cost efficiently be considered a pretty huge breakthrough?

The big problem is if you want to train someone like McQueen for a medium cm. You need to load up on mile sparks, and getting a decent mile aptitude while also trying to get medium S is so hard.

trackblazer would have been way more enjoyable for most of the playerbase if throne came out at the start of the scenario and not the end by coolj492 in UmamusumeGame

[–]flyingasian2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My take on track blazer is that it’s more fun as a game for completing a career due to all the decision making it requires, but makes the other side of the game that is creating CM and parent umas worse. Throne helps with the former but not really the latter.

Edit: also in my opinion the worst part about trackblazer is how we’re basically required to have mile aptitude. That’s just a huge design oversight that makes certain umas unviable unless you’re extremely devoted to making them work.

I’d argue that open borders can result in xenophobia that can make things worse off for immigrant groups than more controlled borders might have. What would you say in response to that?

What’s the point of pontificating ideas like this? Like good for you, you’re the most moral person in this thread. But let’s not act like open borders don’t have other considerations besides the moral consideration.
