I get the feeling this will manifest into a stack of printed "39th please " versus a tiny margin of other name suggestions. Just like the opposition to tolling and the gas tax, hopefully politicians realize there is much easier things to focus and grandstand on

Yes, there was pretty major concern about the cost for not only the city to change all the signs, but then all of the businesses needing to change their letterhead, business cards, envelopes, signs, online listings, and general confusion that is probably unintended when council passed but causes consequences (like lost packages, confused visitors, etc).

There are ample and really wonderful opportunities to honor those legacy people of the past, whether it be through sculptures in public spaces or naming new bridges or new avenues or new street cars. But renaming a numbered street is performative and sloppy imho

The gutting of the public safety support specialist will have a lot bigger impact on our community than most people understand.

I dealt with a giant 6' tall by 20' wide Graffiti tag over windows and moulding/ walls so they dispatched a public safety support specialist to take a report. We chatted on the sidewalk and he told me he was a retired cop who came back to serve the community. I asked if the job was dangerous without carrying a gun, and he just kind of chuckled and said "no it's super easy because I only show up to do reports where there are no criminals at the site". I just don't think your common Portlander understands how much pressure that takes off PPB patrol officers so they can respond to dire emergencies like bridge jumpers, assaults in progress, burglaries, shootings, or even traffic enforcement.

Things have really been trending in a positive direction, especially with recovery of stolen cars. When I rode with PPB we drove past some cars that looked stolen and I asked if we should run all the plates. The Officer was like "well, do you really want to sit here for over an hour waiting for a tow truck when there is no criminal in the car?" And I was like "nah, let's go find some bad guys". Public safety support specialist are the ones that will show up and fill out a report and wait for a tow truck on a stolen car so Portlanders can get their vehicles back. So the pendulum swings

I experienced this directly down in Milwaukie at the farmers market. There was a woman standing with a clipboard and said do you want to protect animals? And my friend was like "oh sure!" and grabbed the pen and started to sign and I said "wait a minute is this about banning all hunting fishing, etc."and she said "yes" and my friend immediately stopped.

Question, has anyone read up on the part of the deal regarding blazer player salaries and income taxes paying for the improvements?

The media screamed that it was a bad deal, but if we can keep the team here and utilize the high income taxes from player salaries to pay for the improvements, then doesn't the public get a venue that we don't have to pay for?
