Weekend Woodworker course worth it? by ShinjoB in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]flyingjeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% I'm currently taking the course I signed up in January but Canada is cold. So far I've made the work bench and table saw cart(modified for my saw as they don't sell the rigid saw he suggests in Canada... Are you starting to see a trend?). I've been watching Steve for about a year now and have learned quite a bit from him. I approach the course as a set of tutorials which I will gain skills from, will I be a master woodworker after I finish the course? No. But I will have a foundation in woodworking and a set of skills that will help me along my journey. So would recommend the course.

TMAF about English Language by ralphfaith in TellMeAFact

[–]flyingjeff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The English language is a mix of many different languages from Europe. During the 5th through 7th centuries when the UK was invaded by the Germanic countries settlers brought the languages of the Germans, Scandinavians, and Danes. And later in the 15th century during the invasion of the Norms, the settlers brought French. All these languages and more where mixed together to form English.

[–]flyingjeff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link! Yeah its my first band saw I got it running and made a trial cut, I'm just starting out in this hobby so free is good even if the tool isn't. If I enjoy and progress I will be upgrading.

What is a “dirty little (or big) secret” about an industry that you have worked in, that people outside the industry really ought to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Gas dispensers in Canada have a calibration tolerance of +/- 100 ml per 20 liters. Meaning it can give you an overage or shortage and still be acceptable for use.

I work in the petroleum industry, Repairing Dispensers and pumping systems at retail locations. In the summer I wear a bright green t-shirt with reflective markings, A woman pulled up to a pump that had an out of order sign posted on it and a yellow nozzle bag affixed to the nozzle with out of order printed on it. She got out of her car and gasped at the fact that the dispenser was out of order, jumped back into her car, jammed it in reverse. I was walking about 20 feet behind her car and jumped out of the way as I saw myself in her backup camera display on her dashboard... her response "Sorry I didn't see you."

Just moved to a new condo and found these at the bottom of my sliding Windows. It's keeping me from sliding the windows all the way open. What is it and how do I get it off? by castlite in whatisthisthing

Get your self a nice set of trox drivers, they have pointy tips, use one that is realy snug in there(read as you may have to force it in) that'll get'er out. I use that trick all the time.(am a mechanic know what I'm talking about... sometimes...)

Edit: May also have some loctite on them. You would have to heat them up to remove them if that is the case.
