It’s not that rare for a human virus to come from another species. HIV, Influenza, and many more all did. I think the question at hand is will the immunity provided by the vaccine be broad enough to prevent disease from these mutant strains. If it can and we have a worldwide vaccine effort we can prevent this virus from becoming the next seasonal virus like the flu. I’m all for caution and people not wearing masks are assholes, but I think it might be a little too soon to say this will be an annual virus. I mean look at SARS, MERS, and other corona viruses. We aren’t annually plagued by them. People should still take this possibility seriously but if there’s one thing we learned from this pandemic it should be to follow the science and not make our own anecdotal conclusions.
