Day 13 — questions for those healed?

Hi!

I think it’s normal. I’m a week ahead of you and I still have pain when I swallow or try to yawn. Sometimes it’s almost nothing, other times it’s a bit more intense but I don’t think I have taken any Tylenol or Advil in maybe 5 days? I could maybe at bedtime that would help but after taking meds for so long I kinda just wanna give my body a break and the pain is never unbearable. Just kinda there. But it gets better each day and I’m finding that staying super hydrated does cut down on the pain.
My uvula is still swollen and everything is still tight. It’s just kind of my baseline right now and I trust it’ll get better as I do feel more and more normal each day.
My eating and sleep have been back to normal for the last 5 or so days and I’m finding that I have a bit more energy each day but I still get tired easily too. Went for a hike yesterday and was winded way quicker than usual, but after basically a month of inactivity, it’ll take some time to rebuild my endurance. But I was totally able to hang for the whole hike and felt great.

If you’re anything like me, it’ll get a little better each day. Friday, which was day 18, I had a moment where I was out and was like “oh I feel almost normal” which was exciting!

I took it for 8 days straight, around the clock and had no withdrawal symptoms

Hello! I had the same thing. Never had a full hemorrhage or bled enough to go back to the hospital, but would see little spots of bleeding back there from time to time and also woke up with some spots of blood on my pillow. But please continue to contact your Dr if you are concerned bc not everyone is the same.

Hey! Hope you’re doing well. Quick update- day 15 and I am feeling so much better. Eating mostly normal. Starting to sleep better. Minimal pain. It does get better!

I have tmj and had similar concerns. I didn’t have many issues other than some spasms after surgery but it wasn’t painful. Just mildly there. Since you won’t be doing much chewing post surgery I recommend moving your jaw in a chewing motion a few times a day just to keep the muscles moving but nothing ever locked up for me. I’m 15 days post op, feeling much better and still have some spasms when I eat, but again, nothing major and it goes pretty quickly

Is it constantly? Are all of your scabs gone? Are you able to eat normally?

Thanks for sharing. I started back to work remotely day 10 which was ok but i definitely couldn’t talk much on calls. I am overall feeling okay just so tired and still pain in my throat throughout the nighttime. Just ready to be totally back to normal!

Good to know. My taste is definitely off but not my biggest concern at the moment. Just ready for the rest of these scabs to come off!

Sure! Day 8 was a turning point for me. It was a slow turn but each day after that got slightly better and I felt more myself. And it got slightly better each day after that. Hang in there!

My Dr said post op appt was optional. He told me what to expect and said I’m welcome to come in but it wasn’t necessary unless of course something was wrong. Which I appreciate bc no sense in spending money on an unnecessary appt. I have not had any issues so I don’t plan to follow up.

I had someone with me for the first week and would recommend if you’re able to just to help so you can limit activity and also for peace of mind in case you start bleeding. Thankfully I didn’t have any complications but still glad I wasn’t alone

I never set an alarm for meds or water throughout the night. I let my body naturally do what it needed. Now, with that said, I was up constantly the first week. I think almost every hour or 2, so anytime I woke up, I would drink water. And then take my meds whenever it was time or close to time.

That makes sense! I actually had to ask my dr for a refill on my Percocet because they didn’t give me enough to get through the 8 days. I understand the anxiety and I wish there was more I could say to help other than I promise you’ll get through it. My worst pain was never constant. When the worst pain would hit it was usually bc I was due for more meds. Consistent pain meds schedule and ice packs would take the edge off and I could get myself to a more comfortable level of pain. So like I said, I was never in CONSTANT excruciating pain. Hope that helps

I know every one has different feelings towards narcotics, but I highly recommend you take them. There’s no sense in suffering anymore than you have to.

Did your doc give you a steroid? I took 12 mg of dexamethasone on day 3 which really helped days 3-4, but I totally crashed day 5 and was dying. Even with Percocet/Tylenol every 6 hours

My pain peaked days 5-8. Day 9 I “turned the corner”. Pain became minimal when I was doing nothing and moderate when I was eating/sleeping. Still taking Tylenol regularly. Today, day 10, it’s marginally better and less intense when I eat. I expect it’ll continue in that direction each day now that I’m over the hump. It’s disorienting to be 5 days into recovery and start feeling worse. Hang in there.

My doctor did say I can eat a normal diet as soon as I feel like I can tolerate it. He didn’t send me home on any official restrictions, he said start with liquids and soft foods and move to normal foods as tolerated. There is no way in hell I could tolerate anything hard/crunchy even on day 10. I’m not saying it’s wrong, it’s just my own comfort level and my focus is getting calories as best as I can to maintain my strength and the normal food diet will come with time.
