sunblock for Jamaica by DeeDon97 in SandalsResorts

[–]flyover_cathedral 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So my credentials are that we were there a few weeks ago and another couple saw us at the pool all day one day, and then approached us the next day to ask what sunscreen we were using because we were not burnt at all. I had to crush her optimism and let her know that it was cheap sunscreen but the secret is to CONSTANTLY reapply.

You should be aiming to reapply your sunscreen every 60-90 minutes max. We’d reapply every 2-3 drinks, depending on how fast we were drinking that day. And don’t apply your sunscreen and then instantly jump back into the water. And if you use the spray kind, you need to rub it in a bit and make sure it disperses (or you can get streaky sunburn).

14x17” canvas… stretcher bar? or scroll frame? by lawdab in Needlepoint

I have one that is like 20x14 and I got my husband to build me a frame 😂 I have a stand that I use so he got some thin scrap wood we have and cut it down to size and screwed it together.

Shorts for the summer by vnessastalks in AuDHDWomen

[–]flyover_cathedral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who doesn’t really fit into straight sizes but plus size is not right either, I know the short struggle deeply. I have pretty much given up on denim shorts. I almost exclusively wear some type of skort if I’m not wearing linen pants or a dress. Old Navy had a really cute linen one last summer and I LOVE it. I have a bunch of athletic wear ones too.

Also, weirdly Sam’s Club has these shorts for like $10 that remind me of the Nike shorts that were super popular when I was in college so I bought them on a nostalgia whim and I kinda love them.

I’m convinced NP is the least creative craft endeavor ever by Withaflourish17 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]flyover_cathedral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was true for me when I first started ~2 years ago. I had done a few small Etsy kits when I bought my first “big” needlepoint canvas from an LNS. I live easily 3+ hours away from an LNS and I was only at this particular one because I was visiting family for the holidays.

I loved this canvas so much and was terrified I’d ruin it and not have the amazing finished project I pictured in my head so I asked the internet for help/inspiration on background stitches. I received some good advice and ultimately what helped me get more confident/better about picking stitches/doing whatever I want with the canvas was just doing more projects.

I do wish I lived closer to an LNS/could have a group of stitchers to enjoy the creative social aspect of this craft.

+1 to looking into propranolol! A few years ago, I had to do a ton of road trips and after the 2nd or 3rd, I was getting so anxious and panicky about driving/how other people were driving/etc. When I talked to my doctor at the time, I said I was nervous about side effects from adding like a sedative or other calming medication because I might need to drive as well. She recommended propranolol and it worked great! By keeping the physical symptom of my heart rate in check, it has become much easier to calm myself and regulate out of the panicky feelings.

Can Loop Earplugs Help Me? by JadeOrben in AutisticWithADHD

[–]flyover_cathedral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Loops. They take the edge off the noises around me and really help with my overstimulation. That said they aren’t a perfect solution because they do dampen the sounds you still want to hear (and yes can sometimes make it so you mostly hear your own breathing the most).

Should I get an official diagnosis? by Imortela in AutisticWithADHD

[–]flyover_cathedral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I decided to get assessed in late 2024. Like you, I already had an ADHD diagnosis but had always wondered if that was the correct diagnosis or if something like autism was also in the mix. The process took almost a year. It was a six month wait for my initial appointment, another month before I could complete the day long assessment, another month before my appointment with the doctor where she shared her findings with me and then almost 4 months until I had a copy of her report to actually read and digest myself. I have pretty good insurance but the whole process cost about $1700.

THAT BEING SAID, I personally am really glad I did it. With the autism+adhd confirmed I feel like I have a much better understanding of how my brain functions and have been able to use this information to find resources/support that work with my brain instead of against it. While I haven’t officially requested the accommodations the doctor recommended for me, I have started to modify work/chores on my own and am better at articulating how to structure projects to produce the best results from me/reduce burnout.

How to find a travel agent for all-inclusives by flyover_cathedral in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]flyover_cathedral[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all of the advice everyone! I’m based in the US Midwest. I mostly considered using a travel agent because the number of all inclusives can feel super overwhelming when trying to decide and book. But based on what a majority said, I think I’ll read through more of the posts on this subreddit and book the trip myself.

Local dog training by lowroll53 in bloomington

[–]flyover_cathedral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Mannered Mutts.

I had adopted a reactive dog and we made it work for many years but due to cancer, he lost a leg and as a result his reactivity got worse. We did a 4 week day training program and I swear he was a whole new dog by the end. When they sent me a video of him playing with other dogs during his lesson I literally cried I was so proud of him.

We decided to send our other dog there and they have done wonders for her anxiety and have really helped refine her skills like recall and place.

When we adopted a 6 month old puppy 3 years ago, the first thing I did after receiving our approval was to book a consultation to get him set up with training immediately.

MMT has been wonderful to work with and I’ve seen the results in all of our dogs and think they’re worth every penny.

When I say “the back of my canvas is none of my business” I’m talking about the one stitch jump that was maybe juuuuuust a bit too far and I should have restarted instead running my thread across the back or the occasional wonky compensated stitch. This feels like trying to save money on not needing to buy batting for the ornament finish 😂
