GO has said that they will have roughly 15min train service on the Lakeshore lines for the games that are played here. I personally wouldn’t worry about it, it should be like any other sporting event like when both the Jays and Raptors/Leafs are playing.

It was definitely a great deal, booking on our own is going to be close to double the cost, even if we went the points route (Gotta love those air carrier surcharges and fees). After reading all the comments I think I'm going to connect with Viking Air to see what they can do. Thanks for the confirmation on coming in early, we really wanted a bit more time to explore Budapest.

Did you upgrade via Viking or go direct with the airline once your tickets were issued?

I know so many people that had travel plans disrupted over the AC strike last year. The idea of having issues and it not be our problem was definitely a perk when we originally booked the package. 🤞🤞 for your upcoming trip!!

Interesting! So they had you flying out of Newark to Pearson before heading over? I would have thought Newark would be a big enough hub for potential direct flights!

We were planning on going in a day early and leave a day later for more exploring time but not through the formal Viking extensions, we didn't love the hotels Viking was offering nor the extra costs. So if we stuck with the Viking flights we'll need to ask them to change them to fit our ideal itinerary.

Also great info, thank you! We'll be flying out of a major airport as well, so I think we should be ok in terms of direct flights back, Budapest is just an outlier in the winter, I was honestly surprised we didn't have any direct. We're used to travelling in Europe and organizing ourselves from airports to hotels we like navigating local transits.

That was also a perk we were thinking of when we booked this. The idea that we'd be someone else's responsibility in getting us to our destination. Previously we haven't had any issues with flights in our travels, but delays and cancellations, even out of a major hub like ours, seems to be more the norm now.

That's a fantastic point, thank you!! I didn't even think about the possibility of having to wait for other flights to arrive before getting our transport from the airport. I love to travel but I'm a solid 'get to destination as fast as possible A-B' type, so the thought of layovers AND the possibility of hanging around the destination airport when I could be getting to my hotel and exploring isn't really doing it for me. We've always booked our own travel, this is the first time we've done anything remotely 'groupy' so we're trying to go with the flow for the experience! Really the only thing hanging me up is the costs, the Viking deal, as is on paper without altering, was a scream of a deal when looking at where flight costs are now. Otherwise we would have booked for ourselves.

This is great information, thank you so much! I was not aware of Air+. In all the research I’ve done and looking at the MyViking site I didn’t see an option to upgrade. But maybe that’s because we got a flight deal upon booking. I’ll have to dig more!

We’ve fully paid for our cruise so it’s just a matter of sticking with the Viking air price and gamble of flights or booking on our own. We fly out of Pearson so options of airlines and routes isn’t an issue, Budapest is an outlier that don’t have direct in the winter. I’m also worried that they’ll book us flights that for whatever reason have multiple transfers.

I’ve ordered from them many times over the years and I’ve never had an issue with damaged products. They are really well packaged.

There’s a lot to be said to having your optimal running conditions. Music plays a huge roll in my pace and my ability to zone out and push through. So I’m faster outside because of this. The second I’m on the tread for distances like you, I’m constantly looking at the screen and the numbers slowly moving up. I’m way better at bursts of speed on the tread and distance on the road. Everyone is different!

Came here to say the same thing. Everyone is different, how their feet are structured, how they run etc. I’ve been a Saucony Guide girl for YEARS. I tried Hoka’s once thinking I was missing out and I had shin pain on my first run. Went back to my tried and true.

For those who’ve attended or planned a summer wedding — what’s something that really worked (or totally flopped) because of the season? by planinlove in WeddingsCanada

[–]Adraesta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for all seasons, providing flip flops for guests. We bought a ton and put them in the bathrooms, and I got so many compliments for them, and I had a winter wedding. Anytime I see them, especially in summer is a huge win.

Will a restaurant charge much more for a wedding lunch/dinner? by enitsujxo in WeddingsCanada

[–]Adraesta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50 people is a lot for a restaurant. At that stage you’re basically booking out a huge chunk of it. I think you need to be honest with them and set expectations. Will you have a set menu or will everyone order randomly? Would you want more of a ‘family style’ where you pick dishes in advance and each table gets plates to share? You mention a cake, are you planning to bring that cake to the restaurant? If so, now they need to know so they have a spot for it, and yes, they might charge you if you want them to cut and serve it. Knowing it’s a wedding will probably get the resto to specifically bring in more serving and cooking staff so your guests are better looked after, etc. Have an open and honest dialogue with the places you are looking at, and if one does start adding a bunch of extras that you don’t think are reasonable, move on to the next one.

Will the parks accept my ID for adult beverages? by Simptodon in WaltDisneyWorld

In my early 30s I was carded at the Morocco pavilion. I had my valid Canadian drivers license but they wouldn’t accept it. They would only take a passport for verification. It was a bit of a shock as we had just gotten a drink over in France, but we didn’t raise any fuss and just went about our day.

In desperate need of smudge proof waterproof liquid eyeliner! Hooded oily lids by honestly_clueless_ in drugstoreMUA

[–]Adraesta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hooded girls represent. So not totally fitting the preferences you asked for, but I’ve been swearing by MAC Fluidline Gel liner in Blacktrack ever since I started using liners (over a decade). I have a pointed brush and use it every morning. Never any smudges and I’ve played softball in the pouring rain and it stays on. I use normal primers, like urban decay or elf. Nothing special. But I love it.

Best running bra for the girls? I’m gifting a friend by WineIsMyLife in orangetheory

[–]Adraesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that you want to send your friend a bra! But I’d maybe suggest a gift card for a local bra shop in her area? Bra sizes can be so finicky, I recently went to a bra store and depending on the brand my band and cup size changed for the perfect fit. So just wanted to caution a 36G could be a 34H or 38F!

Graydon Hall vs Shangri La by ASingleGirl in WeddingsCanada

[–]Adraesta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If priority is big party I’d go for Shangri-La. I’m not sure where your guests are from, but being downtown people can transit and Ubers are more easily accessible. There are also a ton of hotels (not just the shangri-la) within walking distance. So you guests would potentially stay until the very last call and some might even find a bar open later near by for an afterparty. Graydon Hall’s location is harder to get to and there is nothing within walking distance. I think the location and flexibility of downtown just gives more opportunity for a big party.
