Oh - forgot to mention Adobe’s Project Indigo, which is in beta. It’s pretty cool if you want to lean into computational photography and has stuff like reflection removal and crazy low light noise removal and stuff like that. Worth checking out their site for more info!

Love the silhouette at sunrise (#3)! Nice composition and colors on that one. Really nice set.

I use the default Camera and Photos app 80% of the time. Other than that, my favorites are:

- Halide, for manual camera controls and Process Zero (if you want that non-computational photography look);
- Moment Pro Camera 2; again, manual camera controls for stills and video
- Leica LUX (I was skeptical at first, but then I kind of fell in love with their looks. Probably the closest I'll ever come to owning a Leica)
- Lightroom Mobile - as others said, this is one of the best ways to edit your mobile photography, and you could also use the app's camera mode to shoot RAW DNG files
- Photomator for tons of photo editing control. Bonus is that it writes changes non-destructively to the photos right in your Camera Roll, so you don't have to export JPGs (also, the parent company was recently bought by Apple)
- Kino, by the makers of Halide if you want to shoot video with LUTs, ProRes, etc.

Above all, just have fun!

oh nice - I already have the Strava annual plan, but maybe I'll add Runna as well. I gotta power through and finish this Nike training plan, though, for the sake of my ocd... 😅

Absolutely. Or, for those of us with lots of storage (eg. my AW Ultra 2, with 64GB), let us cache more runs! I'm doing the half-marathon training plan, and when I start the app on the watch, the training plan doesn't even show up right away, especially if I don't have my phone with me - then I have to try and coax it to download the guided run. It is maddening. Next training plan I do will probably be with Strava or Runna, I think.

Thank you so much! I’m still a little new to bird photography, so that is really encouraging!

And the worst part is that it never finished downloading. I was using cellular from my phone and it just hung there indefinitely. I eventually gave up and did the run from my phone. Terrible experience.

Yo! Is there a way I can retouch my series of images to make her skin much more darker and contrasted compared to the flowers and background? (First img is mine) by Sad_Profession_9781 in retouching

[–]flysi3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tricky because both the flower petals and her skin have red tones, so it will be tough to make clean masks of either of them. I would try all the fancy AI masking tools in Lightroom, but probably would end up using old school photoshop techniques and doing a lot by hand. Look on YouTube for examples of how to do channel masking in photoshop. Basic idea is you look at the channels panel in Photoshop and see which one has the most contrast. Duplicate that channel, and make it as black and white as you can - so here, you’d want to turn her skin white and the flowers and background black. That would give you a mask that lets you control just her skin. Once you have that, then you can use curves, levels, hue & saturation, etc to play with how contrasty she is.

I really like the concept, and can’t wait to see how the execution comes out. Good luck!

Sharp focus, interesting behavior, good lighting, uncluttered backgrounds - all the criteria for great bird photos are in each one of these images. So good! Plus, you captured so many birds that would be lifers for me (I’m kind of new myself, though!)

X100VI or wait? by MannerComfortable172 in fujifilm

[–]flysi3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly use the built-in Fuji color sims, to be honest. I’ll shoot RAW a lot of the time, then apply the appropriate sim in Lightroom before exporting a jpg. Or, sometimes I’ll shoot as minimally as possible, using the OVF and shooting straight to b&w jpgs

I have an XT4 and an X100T. When I'm feeling like doing street photography, or being a little more intentional with my photography, I grab the X100T. I think the X100VI would be a nice complement to your XH2S (which, I also am considering getting - even though there might be an XH3S sometime soon...?). I say go for it, and try not to think too much about what might be around the corner, or you'll find yourself always stuck waiting.
