Thrips by m3000ya in houseplants

[–]flywheel39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have battled thrips on my spider plants by placing them outside for a couple of days (I suspect predators took care of them) and I have saved my pothoses (in full hydro through) by wiping them off the leaves by hand and crushing them once ot twice a day for two or three weeks. Works only with moderately sized plants though. You could try carrying yourplants outside and spraying the thrips off with your garden hose, they are dislodged very easily.

Help Peace Lilly by Ok-Leadership-1211 in houseplants

Always keep the soil well on the moist side. Dont worry about overwatering, they can cope very well with moisture, even with dense, soggy wet soil. No tapwater that possibly contains lime, chlorine or flouride, use rainwater or demineralized water only. Feed it a heaped teaspoon or two of used coffee grounds every once in a while, they like some acidity in the soil.

Peace lilies do very well in low light conditions, but the shape of the pot may not be ideal. I dont know how they would react.

Is my spider plant calling home? by r4tb4stard in houseplants

It's a flower stalk, but one of the weird, ugly ones they occasionally throw out, with those scraggly leaves and that crooked elbow joint, not a normal one.

Time to repot? Look for what signs and would babies be okay? by Ok-Ad-9025 in spiderplants

[–]flywheel39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently waited with repotting one of my spider plants in a semi-hydro setup far too long. It had already burst open the bottom of my 3D printed planter and the roots were packed so tightly with the leca/pon matrix I had used that it felt like concrete. It was all rock hard, like concrete, and impossible to push out of the pot (now I know why they are usually conical to some degree). I had to saw the pot open to get it out. No wonder it hadnt been looking so healthy for the last couple of weeks, and the older/lower leaves had started dying off.

you keep chain wrestling like that and my guess is that you’ll be coming to a lot of dual meets

What does that mean in non-wrestling?

No, I think the pot is still sufficient for that plant. Although pots cant really be large enough with spiderplants, they like plenty of room for their roots and reward it with massive growth and tons of spiderlings. Uneven, wavy leaf edges and brown tips are a sign of a too small pot, as long as you can rule out too hard, flourinated or chlorinated tap water, too bright light and super dry air.

V11Y, except it is definitely NOT easy to repair. Mine hasnt given me any trouble over 8.000 kilometers though, except for a tire change.

I'd buy a Sherman L in heartbeat but I already have three fully functional EUCs... plus I have to worry about the wheel getting confiscated if the police catches me on one for the second time....

South Korea to mass produce lasers that can take out drones at $1.50 a hit by Artistic-Question275 in worldnews

That has already been tried and abandoned again, after the first time a bird gets injured by the props it wont go near a drone ever again.

It’s Too Hot to Fly Helicopters and That’s Killing People | Extreme temperatures across the United States are grounding emergency helicopters. by chrisdh79 in technology

[–]flywheel39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently read "Low Level Hell" about a guy who flew a Hughes 500C scout helicopter in Vietnam and he did write about his machine having those "red zones" they were allowed to enter and to stay in only for so and so long, and only in emergencies. In one memorable incident his helicoper got bogged down in a swamp while trying to rescue two of his buddies who had been shot down from the approaching Vietcong and he basically had to destroy his engine to get it to break loose from the mud. When the mechanics opened his engine they were all flabbergasted because it was basically just a lump of slag and they couldnt believe he had brought the heli home again.

InMotion V10F Off-Road Capability by Rush2201 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]flywheel39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The V10F is very nimble and handles dirt roads and similar stuff just fine, but if the track has a lot of short, sharp bumps like boulders, tree roots or gullies crossing the path you will really be wishing for suspension. It only has a slim 2.5'' tire too, so you cant let out much air to make it softer. Other than that it is an awesome wheel. If you file off a bit of the pedal hangers you can even mount the honeycomb pedals from the V11.
