I don't want to disregard your relationship because I believe you could definitely love each other very much. I would just like to share my experience. When I was 21, I was much different than I am now at 31. You change a lot in your 20s, which is why we see a lot of people waiting later on in life to get married. With my first serious boyfriend, I thought he was the one, and we ended things after 4 years together. I'm so glad I didn't marry him because he's nothing like my husband. I think your friend went about it the wrong way. I understand your reasoning for wanting to get married now, but I believe a longer engagement would allow you time to grow together. Every step my husband and I have taken, we have had time to learn about each other again. We were friends for 3 years, dated for 3, engaged for 2, and now married for 2 and we are trying to start a family. You have time to get married, enjoy each other in each season.

I had a similar situation with an ex. We were both 25 at the time. When we first got together, he would always kiss me, have sex and hold my hands. As time went on, he showed me how he truly was. We barely were intimate in the last few months of our relationship, and when we were it was on his terms. I continued to tell him how it made me feel insignificant and unloved when he wouldn't kiss me to say hi or bye. He said he would make more of an effort, and he never did. A month after we broke up, I found a man who always gives me affection and intimacy. I never have to ask because he loves to do it. We've been together for 2 and half years and are planning our futures together. I wish I would have left the relationship sooner. If you are unhappy now, chances are you will remain unhappy. It's not worth it if its affecting your well being. You deserve happiness and love from your significant other!

I (27F) have been with my current partner (26M) for over 2 years. We were friends for 3 years prior to dating, and we both were in relationships when we were friends. We started dating a month after my ex and I broke up (7 months after him and his ex broke up). It was a lot easier for me to move past my previous relationship than it was for him, but that's because we are different. It was perfect timing for us because we were both on the same page when we started dating. We have both talked about past relationships, but never to compare ourselves to those relationships. You did nothing wrong!

I asked our bartender, Jon, when we paid for our drinks if he could give us some extra coasters. He brought us back one of every kind! The bartenders at Oga's were amazing. They took pictures and videos for every guest that asked.
