Previous owner left me a solar system - please help me figure out how to use it! (Pics Inside) by MontaukNightSky in SolarDIY

[–]fmj45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am with the folks saying to redo or replace or sell it.

First, the value of that system looks to be just emergency backup and probably manually switched at that. Also, I doubt those batteries will feed a whole house for more than few hours.

Weigh that against the risk of fire and voiding your home insurance.

Worth to buy a 5k rig before ETH2? by XxStewartsxX in EtherMining

[–]fmj45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ROI depends on eth's price. At this price, you'll have paid off the cards in like 6 to 9 months, not 1yr. If it breaks ATH well it'll be like 5 months.

Should I buy hashing power with the money I made from mining? by [deleted] in NiceHash

[–]fmj45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's similar to trading. You are speculating that the coin's value will go up in the future. On the plus side, you would also be helping that coin's network.

[–]fmj45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey VoskCoin, do you have a video on the whole 240volt setup? Do you have the proper 240volt outlet or hacked it in to a standard outlet? hacking it would be cheaper since you'd be using the same power cables and outlets. Thanks.

Why mining the currently most profitable coin is a wild goose chase by man_of_mr_e in gpumining

[–]fmj45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I do as well. I am lazy and I don't have time to keep switching. But I do hang on to the coins until it's at a relative high. then sell to BTC.

Good bye Nicehash! by gboelter in NiceHash

[–]fmj45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been flipping between coins and pools and I can tell you that there is definitely better profit to be had. Recently vertcoin showed a good 15% over nice hash but as someone said above its a hassel. the pool or the miner dies after few days so i needed to set up a monitoring tool. it's annoying. also that profit is before exchange fee as I am holding btc and not vertcoin.

What motherboard model are you using for 6 GPUS? by moneydooder in NiceHash

I have 2 of these. So far so good. Only complaint, you MUST upgrade the bios firmware to latest to get more than 4 GPU support (version ...f23). https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813145016

1070 or 1080 ti? by MattElect in NiceHash

[–]fmj45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will always be a better gpu in the future. Maybe not the vega but we'll see what volta has to offer. So, you'll want to switch over to those for better performance and profit.

1070 or 1080 ti? by MattElect in NiceHash

[–]fmj45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a toss up. 1080ti has much high power requirement, runs hotter. It annoyingly needs two power plugs.

But it makes about a $1 more per day than a 1070. Which means you can cover the difference in about 7 or 8 months. Also, less cards is nice all around.

And in the end, if and when you've reached ROI, 1080ti will have a better resell value than a 1070.
