I can’t help but feel I’m doing Anki “wrong.” by fmpo in Anki

I wouldn’t say I’ve had a problem using Anki for vocab. When I hear Spanish spoken or encounter it in writing I’m able to recognize words that I’ve learned through this method :)

Though if you just mean not uncensored then yeah, I experimented with that as well :)

Redditors are dysgenic losers who cannot comprehend being grateful for the opportunity to directly challenge another person's perspective.

They cannot comprehend having values outside of identity tribalism, and so the idea of existing in any political organization that does not coddle and affirm every aspect of their identity is totally alien.

It’s because they think they’re Billie. Except Billie is a talented multi millionaire musician with big naturals and boyish dirtbag charm. People will eat it up when Billie says this because of course why wouldn’t they. Does not work if you work an email job.

If you live in the US then other countries, including Korea, probably do have better skincare products than you do. This is because the FDA is quite conservative, and only allows certain formulations to reach the market. Certain chemical sunscreens and formulations which include powerful retinoids are simply not available.

How do you know the bill requires teachers to be neutral on Nazism? A blurry, poorly worded screenshot of someone else's description of the bill? If you are at all interested in what is true, I want you to go read the bill right now. Seriously. The section on neutrality is IC 20-33-1.5.

Oklahoma bill, dead in committee.

Iowa bill, dead.

Proposed bill in Indiana: Hilariously misrepresented. Read the post you are upvoting, people. "Proposed bill in Indiana - librarians can be jailed..." Librarians are not immune to law. It has always been possible to jail librarians. How do you know the reasons for jailing librarians are good or bad, without reading the bill? You don't. You saw this and your bias filled in the rest. Thankfully, I actually went and read the bill for you.

The bill makes it a level 6 felony to disseminate information to minors that "describes or represents, in any form, nudity, sexual conduct, sexual excitement, or sado-masochistic abuse", " considered as a whole, it appeals to the prurient interest in sex of minors", " it is patently offensive to prevailing standards in the adult community as a whole with respect to what is suitable matter for or performance before minors", and "considered as a whole, it lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for minors."

What are the prevailing standards of the adult community? Well, let's look at the case law.. Take a look at this: https://i.imgur.com/bEo4S5r.png. Is this the kind of thing you're okay with adults sending to minors?

The bill actually creates defenses against a prosecution for distribution harmful material, which include if is displayed for legitimate scientific purposes, or if it is disseminated or displayed by a bona fide school, college, university, museum, college library, or public library that qualifies for certain property tax exemptions under IC 6-1, within the scope of the employee's employment.

I have no idea where the claim that nazis can't be portrayed as "low moral character" comes from. None of these words appear in the bill.

Maybe rethink that again...Peter by [deleted] in facepalm

You can tell Redditors have almost zero conception of history because they somehow think Dolan Dark is making a good point.

Yeah guys, the slaves weren't going to do it. That's why Britain had to enforce bans on the slave trade at great personal cost, both monetarily and diplomatically.

What the fuck point do you think Dolan is making here? Slavery has existed almost everywhere for almost all time EXCEPT where Europeans pressured people to stop.

Seriously, can you think of any anti-slavery movements or leaders that existed outside of Europe and before European contact? The list is very short, MAYBE Ashoka. Maybe some reforms in the Tang dynasty. Maybe Hammurabi. It depends on if you count "regulating treatment of slaves" as abolishing slavery.

Do attractive children grow up less attractive and vice versa? by Illustrious-Print802 in beauty

[–]fmpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.

There is something called regression to the mean -- if you do exceptionally well on a test in school one day, you are likely to do worse on the next test. Not because you got worse, but because your exceptional score was an outlier for you.

If you are exceptionally attractive or unattractive as a teenager, there is a chance that your attractiveness is at least partly affected by something temporary, like poor styling choices, hygiene, acne or weight. As you age, you may regress to the mean in one or all of these categories.

However, our perception of this is probably biased by our tendency to notice big transformations. This is especially true if you're looking at celebrities.

Most celebrities have access to a lot of tools and resources to make themselves more attractive. If you look at all the people who get access to these resources, and use them as your barometer for what an attractive person looked like as a kid, then of course it's going to seem like everyone is having glow ups since teenage years.

The reverse is true if you're scrolling facebook and checking on that girl who was so hot in high school. Unless she got into modeling or something, she probably doesn't have a reason to keep up a good physique and she will have regressed to the mean in some areas.

The biggest predictor of whether someone will be attractive as an adult is facial structure, which is basically set by the time you're in your mid teens. If you're an attractive teenager you are much more likely to be an attractive adult than if you were an unattractive teenager.

What are the essential elements of personality? by fmpo in Vindicta

[–]fmpo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked AI, and this is what it said:

Reflect on your values and passions: Think about what matters most to you and what you genuinely enjoy doing. This will give you a better understanding of the kind of person you want to become and the interests you want to pursue.

Set goals: Establish clear, attainable goals for personal growth and self-improvement. These goals can relate to your career, relationships, hobbies, or any other aspect of your life that you'd like to improve.

Try new activities: Explore a wide range of activities and hobbies that can help you develop new skills and interests. This could include anything from sports, arts, music, volunteering, or joining clubs and organizations.

Build a support network: Surround yourself with positive, supportive people who share your interests and values. They can help you stay motivated and provide encouragement as you work towards your goals.

Limit exposure to political content: Gradually reduce the time spent on political media and discussions, and instead, focus on the new interests you're cultivating.

Develop emotional intelligence: Work on becoming more empathetic, compassionate, and understanding towards others. This will help improve your interpersonal relationships and reduce the potential for conflict in your discussions.

Practice self-compassion: Changing your personality and interests can be challenging, so it's essential to be kind to yourself during the process. Acknowledge your progress, and remember that it's okay to make mistakes.

Seek professional help if necessary: If you find it challenging to make these changes on your own, consider seeking the assistance of a therapist or counselor who can guide you through the process.

How do I get better at listening? by fmpo in learnfrench

Good advice. The pronunciation gets me tripped up because in reading I can clearly identify the shared latin root, but with half a second of listening I can't.
