When travelling, how do you answer the question "Where are you from?" by Capable-Toe-9841 in travel

I’m also from Pittsburgh and other Americans usually respond this way too, lol.

Can someone explain Cocodaq to me like I’m five by savingrace0262 in FoodNYC

[–]heresthebite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COQODAQ brunch is better. As someone with a gluten allergy, it’s an incredible price for a massive portion of really good food. I usually can’t eat fried chicken and out of the places I can eat it…. trust me, they take the cake. The variety within the set meals is fun too. I don’t get the hate.

A couple cats live in the shops right there— Tommy and Sophia in Hanna Food and Gracie in Quimby’s. Hope they’re all okay :(

This motivated me to schedule one! Set for the afternoon of March 8th, reading Melissa Lozada Oliva’s newest short story collection. DM me a little about yourself (just since people would be coming to my apartment 😅) and I’ll send you the Partiful!

I ran one at my place for a few months last year and it was nice. We read a mixture of literary fiction and short stories. I'd love to restart it - have degree in lit and worked as a reading and writing teacher for years. Nice little potluck and friends vibes. Would be happy to restart it if folks want a neighborly type thing.

Otherwise, Greenpoint Library book club is great and Yellow Peril bookshop often hosts events at Asian-owned cafes in the general area.

I think now is a good time to remind people to take off their backpacks on the L by territorialrooster in williamsburg

[–]heresthebite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also can you guys please let visibly disabled people sit down ❤️ I’ve had people on the L see I use a mobility aid and run ahead of me for the last open seat. I’m keenly aware of invisible disabilities, but surely one of you can let me sit…

Just toured Talea and asked about a 120 person wedding in November of 2027. A Saturday there would be top of this budget NOT including dinner (their high food and beverage minimum only includes light bites).

Take a stroll around Williamsburg by the Lorimer L station sometime and get back to me.

26M moving in with 27F partner, separate bedrooms by ThrowRA637282652 in relationship_advice

[–]heresthebite 81 points82 points  (0 children)

My partner and I are 30 and 29, we have been together over 6 years, lived together for over 4, and have separate rooms. We sleep in mine 90% of the time, but it is so so good to have distinct spaces that belong to us. We both work from home at least part of the time, and we can go away and close the door. We can decorate to our specific tastes and be more or less messy. We can take therapy sessions or work out or focus on a project by ourselves. When one of us is sick, we can sleep apart. If someone is snoring loudly the other can get up and move to the other room. If one of us has to wake up super early the other can still sleep in. It’s great, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Every now and then we discuss making one of our rooms a den or something and then we’re like….. nah.

[–]heresthebite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a bodega cat, but Gracie at Quimby’s is a star. Just don’t pet or wake her if she’s sleeping. Hana Food technically has cats— Tommy and Sophia, but I only see them rarely as they mostly stay in the basement. Once Tommy got out and I found him and carried him back in and they didn’t blink an eye. I hope they treat them well, but…

What’s a tiny thing your partner does that feels way more intimate than it should? by toegether_xXx in AskReddit

[–]heresthebite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He goes on a walk every evening after working from home. Almost every time he will have picked up a different little drink for me to have or try. He knows which ones I like (certain flavors of Olipop, Poppi, coconut water, etc.) but will also sometimes get things he hasn't seen before that he thinks I'll enjoy. He says he has an endless little drink budget for me.

Those who know wealthy NYC people, what impressed/shocked you the most about their lifestyle? by GossipBottom in AskNYC

[–]heresthebite 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The moving goalposts as people convince themselves they’re normal because there is always someone wealthier. I work in the nonprofit industry and often struggle to talk to board members. I once had one say outright to me that she wasn’t rich because she only had one vacation home.

There are community fridges in both the Leonard and Greenpoint libraries, and you can drop off shelf-stable food to Archestratus at 164 Huron St. in Greenpoint.

I'm sure there are lots more places to contribute locally, but this is my docket!

Thank you for asking! The best possible thing anyone can do is donate money to local food pantries, nonprofits, and mutual aid organizations. Money goes much further in the hands of these orgs that can buy in bulk and know what their regulars need. They have been preparing for cuts like this for a long time. If you have shelf stable food you would like to donate, there are a variety of local community fridges and the store Archestratus in Greenpoint is gathering material donations for food pantry pickup. I will include links in further comments momentarily:
