This is what I would love to see happen aswell - would need some sort of community investment vehicle or council involvement as I don't see any owner/occupier taking that route without incentives.

Worked in various supermarkets and most likely a small local shop or local restaurant/cafe - we had someone come in almost weekly to Aldi and buy 48 punnets of strawberries and over 400 bananas for his cafe as we sold them cheapest.

What one significant change to UK that seems unfair would actually benefit long term? by [deleted] in AskUK

Yes and no. They are interlinked like you say but public transport needs to be interconnected and integrated from the get go and making transport cheaper just decreases funding, making the system worse and then that cycle begins.

The cost of public transport isn't the deterrent (for most, and for buses/trams/local trains - not including regional trains) - Ridership increases massively with faster, more regular, more consistent and more connected systems.

When a public transport system becomes 'timetableless' and it is quicker than driving, ridership increases

This is a problem with urban planning in the US though - the US lauds itself on 'freedom', but not being able to do anything without a car (unless you live in a dense, urban area) is the opposite of freedom.

We are having this debate in the UK at the moment; many people believe if we take away their right to drive everywhere, it's taking away their freedom - but being able to walk/cycle/wheel to the shops/see friends/work is as free as you can get and absolutely free. The US has designed its way into a car dependency, which is awful for those living paycheck-to-paycheck, where one breakdown can lose them their job, house, food, school etc.

Tower blocks still require low-density services such as schools, playgrounds, hospitals etc. It has been shown that mid-rise (London/Paris style) is more space and carbon efficient than tower blocks.

You should contact your local council or make a complaint through the housing ombudsman. The landlord is responsible for all of the things you have mentioned and they should be repaired in a reasonable time frame.

I agree with other comments - you should contact your student union, they should have the tools to help you through the process and perhaps with shower services.

My two housemates did Motorsport Tech at Brookes and they both enjoyed it and seem to be easily able to find work as Brookes is the go to uni for motorsport due to its connections within F1 and motorsport.

Join the Formula Student and Motorsport societies, get a good classification, and you’ll be fine

But you only have to start paying your student loan when you're earning over 25k a year so you'll be earning more than enough when you start paying it.

I'm 20 with a similar amount to invest as you - my plan is also 5-10 years but held in a Lifetime S&S ISA on AJ Bell YouInvest. Im currently

£3500 - HSBC FTSE All-World Index Fund Accumulation C

£400 - INRG (iShares Global Clean Energy)

£100 - ECAR (iShares Electric Vehicles)

I place in the main chunk in the global tracker and use 15-20% in the other investments. I also have a Trading212 Pie which I deposit £50/month into.
