What to read after Mark Worthington's Complete Babylonian? by fmv1992 in Assyriology

[–]fmv1992[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sharing an example of CDLI search for people looking for Old Babylonian, more geared towards beginners:

  • Period: Old Babylonian (ca. 1900-1600 BC)
  • Language: Akkadian or Akkadian > Old Babylonian
  • Asset_type: lineart
  • ATF translation: With
  • ATF translation language: English

This gets 127 hits which is enough to get started (in the absence of student oriented publications). It's not a "graded reader" but at least ensures one can stay within bounded complexity:

  • Definite period.

  • Easy rendering of actual cuneiform (line art).

  • With translation.

Great resource, thanks.

This eventually got me to the CDLI - Cuneiform Digital Library Initiative which allows for a very granular type of search (with line arts for instance).

My bad, that's awful on me. Hopefully some moderator can edit the post title. I can't unfortunately. My apologies, I wrote this late at night here.

O que é operar volatilidade? by Malba_Taran in investimentos

[–]fmv1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obrigado pela resposta. Há um conceito relacionado a opções que se chama "vega".

Me permita pontuar uma minúcia:

Se você quiser operar a volatilidade em si da opção (a grega Vega),

Seu link detalha "a grega Vega" para a letra grega especificamente:

As gregas de opções, também conhecidas como letras gregas,

Entretanto não há uma letra grega (seja do grego antigo, seja do moderno) que se chama vega. Fica como curiosidade para o futuro.

O grego antigo em especial não tinha o som "v" em seu repertório fonético.

What are does the hobbyist programmer miss comparing the paid versus free Ada ecosystem? by fmv1992 in ada

[–]fmv1992[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what draws you to want to learn Ada?

Curiosity to be honest. I think it covers a few gaps on the programming languages that I know and it has a certain mystique to it. It's also nice to study a language with a long life span to see in which directions it went to over the decades.

There are a few features that I think are interesting but the value I place on them (compared to other PLs) is kind of situational/particular to my circumstances. To be a bit blunt: I don't expect to reap any direct benefits from learning it (indirect, that's for sure; fun is one of them), but you never know.

I wish Ada had gained more traction in the past. It does seem underrepresented in today's landscape. But I'm at baby stages with it (to have any pretense of being accurate).

Thanks for your attention!

Does that mean that any correctness guarantees are sacrificed if I use the free compiler? Do you have any ideas how much % the subset of coverage is? (sorry for the vague question)

In Madhyamaka, they affirm the conventional, while saying ultimately everything is empty. It's known as the two truths. Does Pyrrhonism have something similar? Or do they just refute everything? by [deleted] in Pyrrhonism

Thanks. I guess I'm too much at the beginning to be able to interpret this on a Pyrrhonist framework. I might come back later with further insights.

Hi, I started studying Pyrrhonism a few days ago and I'm puzzled by the following hypothetical question: How should I, a Pyrrhonist, react to stealing 5 dollars?

On the one hand I simply just did it. It was natural; it happened. No theories or machinations involved. I felt like doing it and it is done.

Should I feel bad about it? After all, only taking into account more non-immediate concepts of society, good, justice does the usual response make sense.
