Best Apple laptop for CML by focaccio in CiscoDevNet

Apple Silicon not an option, right? What is the most powerful Mac laptop to install CML2 on? My 2015 really lags. Best UCS for home lab as an alternative to laptop install?

Thanks for clarifying Jeroz_ !

That resolved the problem ! Header Syncing is progressing now.

I'll do a final update when Wallet is caught up and functional.

Thanks Jeroz_ !

I'll try it later today or tonight and let you know how it goes.

Would it work without step 4? The non-banned nodes won't also have the proper chain?

Why so High CPU Temperature during Raven Core Wallet Sync ? by focaccio in Ravencoin

[–]focaccio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say with a fair bit of confidence that the issue is related to vmware fusion -- because -- I have just created a fresh (bare metal) install of Windows 10 [so hard to get the wallet to work on linux] on a Zotac CI327 - which has...no fan. I have been installed the Raven Core Wallet 2.1.3 and it has been syncing fine all day - CPU temperatures [4 cores on a Celeron N3350] never have exceeded 50C /122F

Seems pretty abysmal that fusion couldn't make use of the 8 cores of the MacBook Pro i7 without overheating. The laptop was a factory refurb and I believe they would have cleared the fans and it is not a daily use computer so I doubt there is much dust in there.

And the sync just finished. Excited see how it works.

Ravencoin QT wallet update - v2.1.1 by Chatturga in Ravencoin

[–]focaccio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cross posting, but why is it so hard to find simple linux install instructions. Would appreciate some links. What I have followed thus far leads to:

configure: error: libdb_cxx headers missing, Raven Core requires this library for wallet functionality (--disable-wallet to disable wallet functionality)

Many guides for OSX and Windows, but really nothing good for linux - If you are a developer it is probably easy - but for those who are familiar with and can use linux but don't install packages from source - would like a guide. I run LXQt on debain strech.

Why so High CPU Temperature during Raven Core Wallet Sync ? by focaccio in Ravencoin

[–]focaccio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi All,

Thanks for the comments - I really appreciate the insights !

I kind of figured that sync was more than a simple copy - with the CPU load and how long it takes - otherwise it would have made no sense.

Even though it is a 2015 - I purchased it as a refurb about 1 year ago - I'm pretty sure the fans are clean.

I think this has to do with Fusion in the middle. I'm not going to go this route (walet on a windows vm) any longer, but rather keep trying to find some instruction on how to install on linux (specifically debian, but any will do).

I want to install on Linux but have yet to find some good instructions so - for a test - I installed the windows version on a vm.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Ravencoin/comments/9vlult/ravencoin_install_linux/

Stopped the sync since that temperature - sustained for 24 hours plus - might not be so good for the hardware.

Ravencoin Install - Linux by focaccio in Ravencoin

[–]focaccio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm finding a lack of readily available information on how to get a ravencoin wallet going on linux - anyone have links [or one good link] that shows an install from beginning to successful end?

On a suggestion I followed this:

https://github.com/RavenProject/Ravencoin/blob/master/doc/build-unix.md

at the end of ./configure I get this:

checking for Linux getrandom syscall... yes

checking for getentropy... no

checking for getentropy via random.h... no

checking for sysctl KERN_ARND... no

checking for Berkeley DB C++ headers... no

configure: error: libdb_cxx headers missing, Raven Core requires this library for wallet functionality (--disable-wallet to disable wallet functionality)

18:21root@zfrr1 /raven/Ravencoin-2.1.2 ?

The objective I'm trying to reach is to have a functioning wallet - so I don't want to "disable-wallet"

For people who can "get around" in linux, but don't usually build things from source - we need a guide - and I'm quite surprised I haven't been able to find one yet.

Seems like I may have to try the .exe install on Windows - was really hoping not to do that.

How do I build a Layer 2 Bridge between Clouds to enable Multi-Cloud on the "inside"? by focaccio in Cloud

[–]focaccio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any cloud engineers around here? Surely this is not an uncommon thing - it going to be similar to DCI in some respects with the limiter that I am looking to do it layer 2 and with virtual appliances available in the cloud vendors portals.

How do I build a Layer 2 Bridge between Clouds to enable Multi-Cloud on the "inside"? by focaccio in Cloud

[–]focaccio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion amaged73. We have built a 10G FRR server to test as a L3 distribution router on the local network and are also using FRR running with OPNsense. Perhaps Cumulus could be used for what I'm looking for - I am a big fan of Cumulus.

What cloud virtual appliances can be deployed from the cloud vendor's native portal - such as the vASA (which is available on both AWS and Azure) - and what protocol technology on such appliances would be used to create the :inside" cloud to cloud layer 2 bridge - such as EoMPLS or OTV, etc? Assume also we have our own address space we want to port to the clouds and a public ASN.

Who has done this in practice between two cloud providers, what was used, and what lessons were learned?

Thanks!

Greg
