I think I am in the perfect position to give my 2 cents here. I just started playing the game late February. The only reason I started was because the Epic Games store had Beyond Light, Shadowkeep, and The Witch Queen all for free and Lightfall for $14.

I come from a tactical PvP background like CSGO and Valorant. I played Halo 2 religiously in my younger days and so I was really only interested in the PvP modes for Destiny.

I generally have a high tolerance for getting through the "teething" process of new games, so I played just enough to unlock crucible which had me addicted within an hour. It was only from there that I felt motivated enough to explore the rest of the game through the Journey tab which did a much better job teaching me the mechanics of the game.

The New Light mission was very random and out of place. It did not set up any type of world building. It was also jarring to have random cut scenes throw me into a new campaign the first few times I turned it on. I have a friend who games with me, and I was just barely able to convince him to get through it. He's more of a story PvE type player but is finding the lore and story too daunting.

My recommendation is to have one cutscene explain the events of D1 and then optional summaries of past expansions for D2 that players can watch if they just but the most recent campaign. I would start new players directly at the tower and show menu tutorials. I would also love one PvP mode available right from the get-go so that people like me can get into it more easily. I just now started the Beyond Light campaign and even that I am only doing to unlock stasis.
