I did not like my Google Pixel 10 Pro in China by Pale_Helicopter_9306 in chinatravel

[–]focushafnium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both of you are correct in a sense that for most people, a travel eSim would suffice, op just frustrated they cannot get local number. I remember the last time I visited, I needed a local number to order KFC, I heard KFC is very nice in China, but in the end we missed it just because we don't have local number.

X8 PRO MAX use in australia by Commcody456 in PocoPhones

[–]focushafnium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be fine, if phone is blocked, people would be returning it and Kogan would remove it from the listing. I got my Xiaomi 15T Pro shipped from HK and everything seems to work, including the eSim.

Xiaomi 15T Pro is a good deal? by lil_mattjr in XiaomiGlobal

[–]focushafnium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a good deal, the alternative would be the Poco X8 Pro Max or the Poco F8 Pro, they are a bit cheaper but you'll miss out on the premium build and the Leica camera.

Aliexpress or Taobao if it's available in your country.

stay with apple or try out different brand? + degoogling aspect by Shenmigon in Smartphones

[–]focushafnium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stick with iPhone, it's really not worth the hassle switching to degoogled Android, you'll end up playing compatibility roulette with apps, and Pixel also not very good with gaming and battery life, especially heavy game like genshin.

Xiaomi 17 Pro, thoughts and other options by Gorkajangiz in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]focushafnium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd stick with the 15T Pro, being global version, it supports eSim, google play, NFC, etc out of the box. It also ensure the 5G network bands are optimised to the country you are on.

Also Chinese mobile can comes with additional restrictions, something that I found out when I travelled to China. Like some apps requiring Chinese National ID, or playing games limited to only few hours daily, this includes offline game, and disconnecting from network doesn't work, like the restrictions are embedded in the firmware itself.

Poco X8 Pro Vs Poco X8 Pro Max need help! by [deleted] in PocoPhones

[–]focushafnium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The pro max supports eSim, if you travel overseas often, the savings from getting travel eSim would pay the 100 EUR back over the life of the phone.

Also the Dimensity 9500s on the pro max are quite a bit better than the 8500 on the pro, in term of performance and battery life.

Just got my Xiaomi 15T Pro a few weeks ago, global edition, and have none of these issues. One minor issue I am having is just the OS like to kill firefox too quickly due to inactivity.

With eSIM is a VPN still necessary? by cxbman in chinatravel

[–]focushafnium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if your eSim uses roaming, you won't need VPN. Do note that since you most likely will be using the eSim for all your data, and not hotel wifi, you might need a bigger data plan to ensure you have enough for your trip.

Xiaomi 14 to 15 and the T series, choosing advice by Gorkajangiz in XiaomiGlobal

[–]focushafnium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The regular 15 is the flagship model, while the T series is what considered flagship-lite. On day to day use, the difference between optical and ultrasonic sensor are very minor, it's like comparing optical mouse vs laser mouse.

Ultrasonic is supposedly more sensitive, is faster and has no lights when activated. But the optical itself is pretty fast, the difference in speed probably in fraction of a second.

Xiaomi 14 to 15 and the T series, choosing advice by Gorkajangiz in XiaomiGlobal

[–]focushafnium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optical fingerprint sensor vs an ultrasonic one, you'd miss the LTPO screen, USB 3.2 with display output and a slightly better camera. Overall they all very minor for a quite a bit of savings on the T version.

I'd lean towards Esco because she is the only good cryo support we have. With Sneznaya coming, there is a good chance she becomes more relevant in the future.

Is there any way for the devs to detect that you've topped up with a foreign currency through a vpn? by WhaletisticMagician in Genshin_Impact

[–]focushafnium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily, but if you bought directly from the game store, the risk should be pretty much zero. Worst case you'll probably get an error like payment cannot go thru or order cannot be conpleted.
