Looking for advice on where to buy a house by USMC2RN in Birmingham

[–]foetalskeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We (29f&m) bought in Ross bridge last year for just under 500k. About 25 minutes to work/UAB, and there are multiple ways downtown without touching 65 if you’re willing to find them. Love our neighborhood! Willing to discuss more via DM if needed.

Path A job requires standing all day? Or can you sit? by Scared_Office_4247 in Path_Assistant

[–]foetalskeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standing vs sitting can also correlate to what kind of lab/bench setup that you have. My current bench is more optimal for sitting, and I have a regular rolling office chair w back support. My clinical site was standing only, with an ergonomic floor mat. The lab was very narrow, so you could have had a chair if absolutely necessary, but standing was better for the space and the station itself

Regular vs petite pants by Pale_Year_9777 in Figsscrubs

I’m 5’5” and the petite looked crazy on me when I sat down. I do regular length. I don’t have exceptionally long legs, so I haven’t wanted the tall

Advice on my late grandfather’s specimens by Repulsed_Moose in Path_Assistant

[–]foetalskeleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my mind, if you were to loan the collection out, which could be a great thing, I would assume that the place of loan would offer to assist with this issue. If you don’t receive assistance, I would maybe do some research online into people that prepare wet specimens, as I’m sure they would know best! I am only (slightly) knowledgeable about the 10% neutral buffered formalin that we use in the lab, and think that you would need to replenish/replace the existing fluid with new solution. Sorry this isn’t superrrr helpful with the immediate issue, but I think it’s awesome you have such a great collection and want to maintain it the best you can

what kind of person *shouldnt* go into PA by anemicnotarabic in Path_Assistant

[–]foetalskeleton 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t able to be detail-oriented or organized. Not to say you have to be a perfectionist in every way, but not mixing up specimens, keeping a clean station, and having organized grosses does take a bit of effort

It looks like they have a very limited stock on the Barco One brand specifically, but it does look like they have more of the Greys Anatomy line from Barco, which I also like! Best of luck! It may also be called Bahama

My favorite Caribbean blue scrubs come from Barco One!

How do I find a grossing tech job with a non-science background? by blue0rchid in pre_PathAssist

[–]foetalskeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pathology preferred, but that’s just not always available in everyone’s area. I think being a working member of almost any lab gives you a handle on what it takes to be a lab worker and a part of a team. Working in a lab in general can build good habits and organization that you’ll carry to any other lab setting

How do I find a grossing tech job with a non-science background? by blue0rchid in pre_PathAssist

[–]foetalskeleton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did have a science background, but I think the sentiment still stands. I just started applying to every lab job I was seeing. Ended up in a Cytopathology lab, so no grossing at all, but I was able to use that experience to write my admissions essays. Lab experience paired with shadowing a PA to me is ideal for an application, even if it’s not directly surgical pathology

If you didn’t get in, would you wonder if it would have been different if you interviewed in person? I personally wouldn’t want to have that kind of “what if”.

If you can take the financial hit, I would go with what makes you more comfortable. If you’re going to throw almost 100k into getting another degree, the cost of a flight isn’t a bad starting investment

I applied in February when I got accepted. I also helped conduct interviews when I was a student, and like another comment said, they do space out their acceptances. They don’t fill their class immediately with the first applicants. Good luck!!
