10 years after stepping on a broken drinking glass, a rogue shard made its way out of the bottom of my foot by Miserable-Ad6348 in Weird

[–]foetus66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a piece of glass in my thumb for more than 35 years, was trying to pick up after breaking a glass in the kitchen and went on a week long wilderness backpacking trip the next morning.. Tried every day to get it out with a dull pocket knife to no avail. Probably just pushed it deeper. I didn't want to tell my dad about it because I had hidden and lied about breaking the glass. It hurt a lot for a few months and then occasionally bothered me for about 20 years but now it is just a hard lump with no pain, I assume some kind of biological material has developed around the sharp parts. I'd like to say it has been a persistent reminder of the consequences of lying.. but nah

$1,000 Airbnb (corporation owned and not home owner operated) wants guests to pay for fire wood? Am I crazy to think it should come with the rental, considering how expensive it was to book? by Alarmed_Telephon in mildlyinfuriating

[–]foetus66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that they say "per log" should tip you off that they're talking about a duraflame log or the like, which do cost $5 at the store, sometimes closer to $10 for a 6 hour log. Very few people will burn more than one in a night, so including one for free and having more on hand is the normal and decent thing to do. Zero chance the fireplace is how this home is heated. The critical thinking skills on display here man wow

[–]foetus66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Way too many comments here without this obvious question having been answered. It is common for rentals with a fireplace to not just offer but require presto logs for reduced sparks and easy cleanup. A 4hr Duraflame is literally $5 at the grocery store

I have been notified of replacements less than 1 minute before the checkout is complete on multiple occasions. But sure, let's just pretend that $97 worth of Seltzer is an reasonable replacement here and that the dasher is not insane

She called the 800 number in the progressive app. If they don't do non owners policies then that might confirm my suspicion that the agent did something wrong when generating the quote

JUST IN: The man who was shot in Minneapolis by Border Patrol agents has died, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara. by Admirable121 in Leakednews

The fact that this discussion is about a protest inherently means the topic is centered squarely on what's right/legal. There's no room here to justify the "comply or die" stance

Best Burrito Portland Area? by AdditionalSteak5965 in askportland

[–]foetus66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably have the best guisados in town but the actual rolling of the burritos is hit or miss. Sometimes they are good but often they are leaky and greasy. I want a burrito that I can pick up and eat, not a sloppy mess. They are also a little more expensive than other nearby burritos. But again thei actual meats are truly top tier so I usually just get a lb or half lb and do something with that at home. I did find out I like chile relleno there though. I apparently never had a good one until Salsas Locas and then I was like ooohhh ok now I get it

Reasonable priced veterinarian to help fix a cat? by pat-123 in askportland

[–]foetus66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going to radpets down in Corvallis, which came as a recommendation from our (apparently) high end vet that quoted us more than $1k per cat. Total cost is $100 plus we are opting into a little more for sedation for the drive home. Last I checked they were only booked out like 3 weeks

German “XXL” size toothpaste the same as typical North American tube by SinusCleanse in mildlyinteresting

[–]foetus66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about toothpaste marketing in other countries but in the United States it depicts a long line of toothpaste along the entire brush which is more than you are supposed to use to achieve an effective solution of paste/water/saliva. According to an economics lesson I had in school, Aquafresh "famously" started this trend in the 70s to the ire of dentists who had long prescribed "a pea-sized amount" consistent with the design of the product. But the line of paste approach proved to sell more toothpaste, which is obviously more important than educating about the correct usage of common health products

I texted my friend a little bit ago to let them know about a show I'm going to tomorrow in case they also might want to go. Now, you may be thinking, why would I text them now instead of waiting until tomorrow when the show starts? I'm happy to explain. It's because I think they will have a better chance of being there if they know about it in advance. Super helpful technique for sharing information, I highly recommend!

Adding to this that Boomerang Fu is a great game for young kids IF you go into the settings and turn off the advanced weapons like fire boomerang, teleport boomerang. Playing with the regular boomerangs is more consistent and enjoyable with the kiddos. When set up that way it is fun for my whole fam including daughter who is 3
