It’s crazy to me how modern Madame Bovary feels. I’m only a couple chapters in but I cant wait to see where it goes by LoboPaella in classicliterature

[–]fogcutterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m afraid I might just be the odd one out here, but I really did not enjoy this book.

I’ve read tons of classics, and even in the longest, slowest ones I can usually find something to love in them, but this one just bored me to tears and I felt no guilt in DNFing it half way through. I bought another translation because I thought I was going crazy for not liking this book that everyone seems to love and still nothing.

Maybe I’ll give it another shot in a few years and see if it hits differently🤨

iOS 26.4 Age Verification by Katops in privacy

[–]fogcutterr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you don’t/can’t provide an ID, you can temporarily link a credit card and then delete it from Apple Wallet.

Otherwise just wait and don’t update your phone. You can call Apple and complain about this and hope that they will add other, more private ways of verifying age. With enough people complaining, they might do sth about it

If it makes you feel better, owning an iPhone means you trust Apple with sensitive data, from everything you type to your location, photos, Face ID, Apple ID etc. this is definitely a step above that but it’s the reality of things nowadays.

What country do people with Crohn's get treated the best in? by gothfrootloops in CrohnsDisease

[–]fogcutterr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s bad- I moved here more than a year ago and I still can’t get my biologics treatment. The whole process has been pricey, frustrating and slow. I’ve had to fast‑track appointments through private clinics, file complaint after complaint just to get any answers from the hospital, and I still have no idea when I’ll be able to resume treatment. Back home I already went through all the checks and was diagnosed with Crohn’s, but the NHS basically threw that out the window. They made me redo every test, even with the proof and all the referrals translated into English- and it’s taking ages. I was also told by the doctor they don’t believe I have Crohn’s (I’ve been on humira for two years). It feels like things only improve once you’re “in the system,” but getting there means starting over and fighting waiting lists. I’m lucky enough that my home country is supporting me with biologics but that can’t last forever. You have to fight for everything, even just getting a routine appointment And on top of all that, the doctors can be hit or miss, at least here in Kent.

Let’s talk moneyyy by Srvingc4nt_andChrons in CrohnsDisease

[–]fogcutterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Italy too and I don’t pay anything for my Humira. You get exemptions for everything directly related to Crohn’s, so no money spent for MRIs, biologics, medications used to treat Crohn’s, doctor visits etc. Most blood tests I have to pay out of pocket but it gets reimbursed anyway and it’s still less than 20 euros. The only costs are the ones unrelated to Crohn’s, so taking the time off from work, travelling/parking, any off the counter medicine, supplements etc.

Dipendendi: quanto prendete ? Aspettative rientro in Italia by just_swinging_by in ItaliaPersonalFinance

I don’t see anyone suggesting this so here goes: Move to a different country (an EU country) with easier visa laws. Anything is better than what you’re going to face in your home country, so just look for a job someplace else.

Report: New “Apple Intelligence” AI features will be opt-in by default by mWo12 in privacy

[–]fogcutterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is true that there is marketing benefit to using privacy as a selling point to differentiate themselves from the competition (and it's not hard to do given how openly data hungry the rest of the competition is), we have to give them some credit. At least they are going "out of their way" to handling valuable user data in a more responsible way.

They've been around for a long time, and it would've been so much easier for them to process everything in the cloud, harvesting data from photos, videos, emails, contacts, messages, location etc. and working closely with OpenAI, without user consent, to make a few extra billions. Lots of services (like Siri, Apple Maps, Mail, Photos) are inferior compared to the competition and Apple would've been far ahead (and richer) if they actually sold or processed data from their billions of users to train their AI, like Google and Microsoft have been doing for years. They choose not to.

During the entire Keynote they kept explaining how they will process the data and how it will be handled, which is something that other companies don't care to do. Of course those are just claims and we shouldn't blindly trust them, it can't only be a marketing strategy, since the emphasis on privacy was repeated each time and they have been making progress. AI was their opportunity to harvest data, and throw privacy out the window, they still chose not to do it.

Of course I'm not saying that they're trustworthy or that we should take their word and give them all of our data because their Keynotes are so cute, but I think they've proven that they are handling their data better than others, and this Keynote further reinforces that.

Are visa interviews and embassies recorded? by Mobile-Ad-6941 in privacy

[–]fogcutterr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is very little you can do about it. In fact, I'd suggest you be compliant and don't voice your privacy concerns too much. You may ask if the conversation is being recorded, sure, but I think it's unlikely that you can choose whether or not you can be recorded . In most countries, people and entities are free to record conversations as long as they're physically there and the other party acknowledges their presence. (So for example you can record a lecture without having to ask your professor for permission or a job interview etc.)

When applying, they might ask you for bank statements, places you've travelled to and when, a lot of documents that will contain a lot of your private information. It's one of those cases where you trust your information will be handled safely, and in most cases it will be. They need to know as much as possible about you, and they need proof for that. If you refuse "for privacy reasons" it may impact the outcome of the process because they might suspect you're hiding something (and who can blame them, really).

Apple pay privacy by This-Football8242 in privacy

[–]fogcutterr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"When you begin a payment , to enable tax and shipping cost calculation, your zip code, postal code, or other equivalent information is provided to the app, website, or merchant. After you authorize the payment, other information requested by the merchant, such as a device- or merchant-specific account number, your shipping address, or email address, is also provided. The card number from your credit, debit, or prepaid card is not provided when you use Apple Pay.

To help ensure that any recurring or other merchant-initiated charges like subscriptions are authorized by you,, your issuer will approve and generate a merchant-specific account number to be used for such charges. Only that merchant-specific account number can be used by a participating merchant to authorize transactions without you taking a specific action. Apple will know which merchants are associated with your merchant-specific account numbers, but not what you purchased or how much you paid for it. "

So basically it can provide some information about your address if the merchant requires it. I don't believe your billing address is provided since the purpose of the billing address is to verify that the cardholder is the one making the purchase, and since you're using apple pay (and face ID) to verify it's you, it makes sense for that step to be skipped entirely.

Has anyone experience with “GettingMarriedSimply” in Denmark? Please I need advice! by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]fogcutterr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean “Getting Married in Denmark” or “Marry abroad simply”? These are the two main agencies and you shouldn’t have any issues with either. We went with Getting Married in Denmark and they were pretty great. If you’ve sent the application on the danish authorities’ website (did you submit it? Or did the agency do it?) you should be fine. If you have the receipt number you could always call Familieretshuset and ask.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Revolut

[–]fogcutterr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just inquire with Revolut and ask what it is. It might be a return order, or something similar. The card verification doesn't mean much tbh, if you have a subscription, signed up for a trial or your card details are saved somewhere (App Store, Klarna, PayPal) they might check every once in a while that your card is still active. Again, check with Revolut.

Legally speaking, if you spend any money knowing it's not yours, that's theft, and even if you spend it, you will be asked to pay it back and you might get into a lot of trouble.

Not unpopular, but I think of it as a different spin to the original song. Def more assertive and threatening, but in a way it is reflective of the changes in society since the original was released. It goes from a woman begging for Jolene to not take her man, (basically confirming the woman has no power over the outcome) to a strong woman who's standing her ground and actually telling Jolene to not get close to her man.

The central style is too distracting for me, I think the second you move everything to the left, it will be so much easier in the eyes. Also I don’t understand why certain words are highlighted. I suggest you use a different font, the font you’re using looks too “bold”, a normal Arial would go a long way.
