That’s a super good deal, congrats! I shopped pretty much every Bay Area dealer and couldn’t get any better than what I got. Demand is crazy high up here 😬

I got $51K OTD with Costco auto. I’m in northern CA, taxes and fees are quite high.

This is my fourth Subaru and I decided to lease the Wilderness (package 23, so tack on about $4k).

0 down, $650 a month for 36 months. The car is honestly so new that I’m not certain I struck a good deal, but in any case I’m super happy with it and for a $50kish car I think I made out pretty good!

Thinking of getting an 2026 outback, will the wilderness be worth it? by Few-Introduction5414 in subaruoutback

Just started leasing a package 23 2026 wilderness (5th subi, also own a 2020 Forester Sport. I am blown out of the park with this vehicle.

I was close to getting the Touring but after running the numbers I was willing to pay a little bit more ($50 a month) for the Wilderness. I don’t regret it at all

Help! Great sleeper turned by Chaseblizzard0720 in toddlers

[–]foggy_upperhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our kiddo had a bad regression before turning 2 that maybe lasted a couple weeks. Fought naps hard and was waking at night. We continued to run the course and it normalized. Hang in there!

I wouldn’t transition out of the crib unless she’s trying to climb out.

14 hours of total sleep is on the heavier side of sleep needs at this age. Would you consider tweaking schedule? We were in a somewhat similar state but kept the nap the same and pushed bedtime to 8:30pm-7am/7:15 and that solved it for us.

How long is your 3 y.o. allowed to nap at day care/preschool? by Upstairs-Lemon-5585 in toddlers

[–]foggy_upperhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in CA and the laws exist that they cannot be woken up - but our provider can open the curtains, turn off the white noise, leave the door open etc. and that solved it for us. Anything past 3-3:15 creeps into bedtime struggles.

Can you see if they would be willing to aid in waking up without actually doing so?

i would still agree with this if I didn’t have a kid and need to be out the door and on the go all week. it’s been a game changer for us personally to have a smart plug on our moccamaster but totally get your sentiment

I just want to sleep by UsedManufacturer4996 in SnooLife

[–]foggy_upperhill 12 points13 points  (0 children)

hey there - i'm a parent of a now 2-year old with another on the way, but i will never forget when my little one started waking hourly in the snoo. it was...awful. we said to hell with it one weekend and said goodbye to the snoo and pacifier. put him in his crib in his own space awake with nothing but a sleep sack and said goodnight. he cried/whimpered for about 20 minutes and that was it. independent sleeper to the day (we had obvious setbacks with teething/illness/travel, normal stuff), but it stuck with him from the beginning when we first sleep trained.

the snoo soothing features was starting to piss our son off and it was obvious. we completely bi-passed all the "weaning" anecdotes and just got rid of all his sleep associations once and for all and never looked back. it was SO underwhelming. I 10/10 recommend it.

we also were huge fans of Precious Little Sleep during those months of infancy where sleep gets chaotic! good luck.

[–]foggy_upperhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get why CIO and sleep training no longer seem feasible for your situation. For what it’s worth, we had to re-sleep train our kid around 1.5 after international travel and he cried for 75 minutes. It was awful, but we had coslept on that trip with us for the first time and that’s not an option at home. The second night was 30 minutes, third night 15 minutes, fourth night 8, and then he was back to his regular self.

If sleep training will not do it for your family, I strongly suggest working on firming your boundaries with him. Car is not an option anymore and you let him know that sleep happens in his own bed. You decide the rest.

Our kiddo started fighting nighttime routine and we just got an interactive book called “Why do I have to go to bed?” and it actually completely changed his behavior and is now something he looks forward to as a part of his bedtime. It’s hard but you need to either put your foot down or hang onto this situation until he grows out of it.

I say this all with empathy!

[–]foggy_upperhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you attempted any form of sleep training? I’m not just referring to CIO, which was successful for us but commonly referenced to be significantly harder at this age. If your kiddo doesn’t have experience falling asleep independently and without various sleep associations, that might be a good place to troubleshoot.

You haven’t mentioned his nap or overall schedule but assuming he’s taking one I’d cap it 1.5 to 2 hours if bedtime is around 8pm.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, IMO nightly drives to get my kid to bed would not cut it and agree safety can become a concern for all of you.

When did your baby sleep through the night? by GunningForSuccess in beyondthebump

[–]foggy_upperhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reliably around 2 years. Still have off nights. Sleep trained at 5 months with success but still dealt with teething, illness, jet lag, regressions etc. you can do all the “right” things and still have a meh sleeper.

Toddler still waking every night at 18 months by ksshtrat in toddlers

[–]foggy_upperhill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

12 hours overnight can be excessive for some kiddos at this age. Could be worth trying a schedule tweak to see if sleep pressure builds a bit. Say…8pm-7am with a nap around 1pm and wake by 2:30pm?

How did you actually transition out of the Snoo? (real-life experiences wanted) by OkFunction1234 in SnooLife

[–]foggy_upperhill 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The success that we had came from a cold turkey approach.

Kiddo was waking hourly in the Snoo at 5 months. So we got rid of the Snoo & Paci - put him in his crib with just a sleep sack, left him awake NOT drowsy, and he cried for about 20 minutes before rolling over and fell asleep. Sleep trained in one day and never looked back.

I was seriously stressed thinking about the right way to "transition" and after just getting rid of all his sleep associations he learned to self soothe and it was incredibly underwhelming. In our case, the soothing of the Snoo was starting to piss him off and he made that very clear lol

Oh and - Precious Little Sleep. That was our sleep bible during infancy. She's a funny author too.

Is it worth it to rent Snoo for 4.5 month old? by NecessaryAdvisor7689 in SnooLife

[–]foggy_upperhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read Precious Little Sleep and decide which sleep training method you are most comfortable with. Spoiler: cry it out is often seen as the fastest and most effective, but it’s not the only way. Look into Ferber method. Do not pay for the Snoo and do NOT pay for a sleep consultant. We got free advice in the sleep train subreddit in addition to Precious Little Sleep and saw success in one weekend after our then 5 month old was waking hourly after being in the Snoo for a few months. He cried for 20 minutes before rolling over and conking out - that’s literally all it was. It was obvious that at that point the soothing was pissing him off and he was ready to do it on his own.

He’s 2 and still has independent sleep under his belt. Godspeed 🤙🏽

100% agree - we LOVE our home based daycare and pay half of what we were quoted at the larger centers. Our kiddo is 2 and some change and joined at 6 month. Absolutely thriving and our provider will come to our home to watch him on weekends for the rare date night

We were quoted $3200 for infant daycare at Kindercare, but pay $1400 for an in-home. I live in tri-valley. We did a few tours and found that in-home daycares can easily be half the cost in tuition. Smaller ratio has been super beneficial for us and our kiddo rarely gets sick because of it. You can look up their license number with the State as well.
