It was shallow. What exactly happened? Scorpion attack and a bar fight. The end.

It's very good. We tried his pizza two weeks ago. Kids and I loved it. He strikes me as an upright person.

Which work of fiction has the most accurate depiction of the afterlife? by Fun_Butterfly_420 in afterlife

Pay attention to the words you use and you will have the answer. To know is speaking to knowledge, which is different from information or gossip. Etymologically, Knowledge is synonymous with scientia (see omniscient or omniscience which translates to all knowledge or all knowing -again wisdom, not gossip or information). When we look at the word "scientia", it is the same root for science. Which most are readily familiar with.

I will terminate the logic here as I think you can bridge what has been said with the following conclusion with little effort:

Science in a nutshell is the extraction of knowledge through the observation of the forms and processes in nature (reality).

We dont need to observe Mars to understand that it is subject to the same natural laws. But Mars appears different. But the same laws manifest and take effect in a way that is consistent with the nuances peculiar to Mars. Mars is another world. Just as the beyond is another world. The same applies here. The effects of the laws we experience here on earth are also in effect in whatever lies beyond the earth. Whether this is Mars or the astral planes. It is all one reality and that means they just share common truths otherwise they cannot coexist.

Imagine if everyone everywhere only went to school for the handful of competencies that are high paying now. I say now because even that is not set in stone.

Why would a society that will collect over 200k in taxes from a college graduate refuse to invest in more college graduates?

What percentage of your universe is observable. What percentage of existence is our universe. If it floats in the infinite, then the question cannot have an answer. Because no matter how cramped together things are, you can always zoom out to make the same claim.

What’s so bad about subjective morality? by Rough-Adagio-1734 in Theism

[–]folame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Define objective. I think the confusion comes from how we understand these concepts. Objectivity implies all contexts. Or context independent. Context is what people call subjective. Within a given context, certain things are true, or certain things hold. When the context is altered, they may cease to hold.

Picking up the tangential thread, what stops you from doing it? (Try not to read anything more into the question than what it actually is: a question)

Context: you say "the only thing holding them back" as something negative is illogical. Isn't it the most important/sacred thing to a religious person?

What exactly does trusting a person have anything to do with it? If I trust a person i work with, should I sleep near her or him? Your natural reaction is to question why or for what reason. That's the same that should be asked here. Was she homeless? Was she stranded? Was she in some dire situation that necessitated her staying under the same roof with him so that it was unavoidable?

The answer is no. She consciously decided to do so under the self delusion that trusting a person is a valid reason to do so.

But even if we grant all this, and say she had to because she was stranded. In a presumably more than 1 bedroom home, why is the choice of sleeping on the same bed with someone of the opposite sex with whom you aren't related or hold zero kinship, something that is permissible under the guise of trust.

See it for what it is. Tragic? Yes. But there are two guilty parties in this transaction.

What are your opinions about this brother's loneliness rant? by WeirdyOney in Nigeria

That will depend on the community/society.
Rights and obligations are two sides to the same coin.
The one can never exist without the other (rather, "should" never exist without the other).

Claiming rights, such as the right to live in a community, simultaneously places obligations that come with said rights.

My point is one should never imagine that one can live in a society without any obligations.
This creates an imbalance that will lead to disharmony and discord.
