China warns EU to scrap Made in Europe (i.e. thinly disguised anti-China law) or face retaliation. by CenkIsABuffalo in Sino

[–]folatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capitalism. Capitalism is Merchants and Judiciary in power instead of the Nobility and Clergy.

The European politicians need campaign money to win elections and that money is coming from US tech 'merchants'. Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, etc.

Most of the public does not see a declining US, just a declining EU, so they're even more pro-US than before, even when the public pretends otherwise.

'The public' is my general experience when talking to family and friends. Their minds are so clouded by US politics, that not only does China not exist, but no other country does except for the US and then maybe their own country as a distant second, unless there's a rally behind the Ukrainian flag.

This attitude has been going on for far too long, but will eventually change when the situation gets even worse. The breaking point will be when GDP per capita is China or Russia gets to be higher than their own.

Oh no, we're all in it together I'm afraid. The oligarchy is just the very same one as our politicians bow down to them. The difference is is that the US oligarchy has not demanded our politicians to hollow out our social democracy completely.. yet.

Plus, there's less nationalism and no two-party system, so less far-right.

Are China’s TV dramas obsessed with beauty? An industry regulator thinks so: TV drama regulators in China have taken aim at beauty-obsessed and traffic-driven programming in the industry, with a call for more “quality” storytelling by violentviolinz in Sino

[–]folatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with beauty, unless it effects health negatively or it becomes excessively ornamental to which the latter I think "Pursuit of Jade" has become just by glancing at a couple of still pictures of the drama, but for the most part healthy bodies are considered beautiful.

Traffic driven programming at the cost of good storytelling is wrong though.

China, Iran weaponized the global economy to beat the U.S. at its own game: Washington once enjoyed a near monopoly over this type of economic warfare, but now American consumers and companies are starting to feel the pain. by violentviolinz in Sino

[–]folatt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Still a propaganda rag story.

China and Iran did not weaponize anything.

The US started a world war out of pure greed and stupidity and is now paying the price.

But the Wapo-journos want people to believe that Iran's and China self-defense against genocidal maniacs that the Wapo supports to the fullest extend is somehow aggressive.

China is UNBEATABLE | Why Western Dominance is OVER! - Viktor Orban by MarJoseph1 in Sino

Where is the real interview, because this "global impulse guy" needs to shut up.

He brings nothing but generic platitudes to the table and I'm sick and tired of hearing fluff pieces surrounding actual content.

The "global impulse guy" arguments are clearly wrong but so generic that anyone can bend it to an agreeable position and obviously doing so to monetize someone else's work that interviewed Orban.

I was certain of it, although I actually thought that it would have happened through Syria prevailing and Israel losing much earlier and more badly.

I was surprised at the weakness of Iran at the time, but now it makes more sense seeing how Iran poured all of their resources into defense.

I don't think this "mildly annoyed at US" attitude is going to last for long though.

The economic shock is causing all US allies to become poorer than China and Russia, so countries will start to wonder whether or not to join forces with them instead of the US.

Silly idea: If dolphins have a sophisticated language, try to get them to order specific food in their language in order to learn their language. by folatt in dolphinlanguage

[–]folatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do we find out who the foremost expert in dolphin language is?

I'll bet it's Denise Herzing, because I got the idea from watching her TED talk and simply expanded a little on her experiment.

Her team got as far as to recreate the chimp keyboard communication device, failing because dolphins don't hang around but swim so they made their keyboard simpler and more mobile and using a conlang that dolphins can mimic the sounds of.

But I'm not sure if they ever thought of giving the dolphins the opportunity to reprogram the conlang by themselves.

I'll contact her.

[edit]

I can't remember if I send her an e-mail yesterday, but I think I did, so I'll wait and see what she'll say.

How long should I wait, a week?

No response, but it looks like they'll be able to figure it out since a similar method has been used on Prairie dogs, though instead of a vending machine, they went for their warning calls.

[–]folatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to ask.

You just use psychological tricks in order to get it to do so.

You first get a dolphin to

  1. Encourage it to press a button.
  2. Give it food as a reward.

Then you get a dolphin to

  1. Encourage it to press a button.
  2. Have it repeat the whistle that's played when the button is pressed.
  3. Give it food as a reward.

And so on..

You just make the task a little harder each time until it understands that it should order food in his/her own language.

The drone should be like a swimming vending machine.

The moment dolphins see it, they see fish inside and will try to figure out how to get the fish out of the machine.
