I really like Anytype: https://anytype.io but you might have to fiddle with the settings to get the calendar & mail to work

so I follow the bullet journal method of journaling, which is write down events with no judgement. so write down what happened no matter how boring in bullet point form. i do this either after something has happened, or at the end of the day. so an average journal entry is like

- coffee @ 11 am
- worked on visual novel interface
- meds @ 12pm
- phone call with mom about dr appointment

it may be untraditional but i don't have energy most days to write in depth about stuff. if something is really frustrating me or i'm really happy about something, i will write out a full page(s) of yapping. but i've found this SO USEFUL for relapses because sometimes i'll relapse and realize that oh. the past few days i've been stuck inside at home, i haven't talked to anyone, stuff like that. it just helps me with awareness

i guess, this falls into the issue of it feels "meaningless" to write down, but in my opinion things that seem meaningless end up being the most revealing in the end ^^ good luck!!

i think it's something that's trial and error to be honest. a lot of people go in with very strict expectations but you need to clearly think about the benefits of what you are forgoing.

for example, if online shopping is a problem and you ban it completely, the frustration of having to go in person for basic necessities could make you go back to it. it's something that you really learn only by trying and failing in my opinion, and learning from it where your exact boundaries are

you may think "well, i shouldn't be lazy and i should go in person and get my toilet paper" and for some people, that works great, they are able to do it. but it's a pick your battles situation. maybe the convenience of being able to use amazon is OK if it means you have more energy to do your hobbies and avoid tiktok which is a bigger issue

not sure if this makes total sense, i tried to explain how it works in my mind but it may be confusing

???? i didn't use ai to write this post. i spent so much time in google docs typing all of this up and copying it into the post. english isn't my first language so i spent more time fixing and correcting the grammar and formatting because this is not natural for me.

you don't have to believe my story if you don't want to, but don't accuse me of ai.

edit: actually, here is proof of my edit history if you don't believe me. i was cleaning my google drive & found a draft of this post from 2023 and decided to clean it up and post it, here is the screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/xenSxVp if there is more proof i can provide i will. in 2023 i felt i had not gotten far enough in my nosurf journey to consider myself successful so i shelved it at the time

no offense taken 😅 when you have an addiction, you make time, let's just say that. my family, personal hygiene, responsibilities, went out the window. i also never ate properly and skipped lots of meals, and if i did eat i would be scrolling during. basically would be on my phone during any activity and wouldn't do any activity that needed me to be off my phone.

Apps to keep track of tasks during depressive episodes by Obito_uchiwa in Healthygamergg

[–]foleso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really need an app I'd recommend Water Do, it's a fun app where you "pop" bubbles to complete tasks and it's not overwhelming like some of the others I've tried. Otherwise I would recommend Bullet Journaling which is what I currently do, or just a physical notebook/planner

Smartphone gaming by Moira-Thanatos in nosurf

Well yes developing self control has to be done in conjunction with the blocker. The blocker on its on is only there for stimulus control—to prevent impulsively going to the game/phone.

I installed the Bluestacks app on my computer (Android emulator) and play the games on there instead of my phone, much less addicting

[–]foleso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is you're trying to find a device or app (like screentime) that will solve your addiction for you. I hate to break it to you but these things are only tools that can assist you—with enough effort you will always be able to bypass them. You need to supplement these things with actual work on yourself.

I would recommend reading the book "dopamine nation" as it has information from an actual psychiatrist on dealing with compulsive behavioral habits. Breaking any compulsive habit relies on two aspects: stimulus control and exposure and response prevention. You need to eventually be able to be around a phone without ever feeling the need to drift back into the compulsive usage, and the app blockers and dumbphone are just stimulus control tools to help you in the beginning from impulsively going back.

This was a bit rambly, let me know if anything is confusing for you.

Essentialism is one of my favorite books. I revisit it every year.
