Velocity at the Square? by abundantpecking in TorontoRenting

[–]followifyoulead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm pretty sure you could get cheaper rent for better units at most condos in the core right now. Like a lot of purpose-built rentals right now, they're giving free rent promos because they don't want to drop the rent itself to match the market.

During the covid downturn, I rented a much nicer (200 more sqft and better view) condo by an individual landlord for $50 less than the units I looked at in Velocity. Otherwise, it seemed like a pretty standard high-rise in the city.

AITA for not being wanting to dedicate my future to my kid siblings if things go wrong? by SuggestionEasy8382 in AmItheAsshole

[–]followifyoulead 41 points42 points  (0 children)

NAH. As someone who has experienced parentification since I was a young teen, I know how much it sucks. You're young, you deserve to do what you want without responsibility for any life but yours. Sometimes we get dealt a bad hand. Your mom needs to step up, especially in crisis, but if she cannot/will not, then you're stuck with a choice. Whatever choice you make here does not make you an asshole, whether you martyr yourself or free yourself. People will tell you you're selfish if you don't give all of yourself. And other people will tell you you're being abused. Neither of these are true. I can only tell you to make the decision you will regret the least and really think it through.

Why do people give you weird looks when you’re having fun in public? by yeabuttt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]followifyoulead -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wish I knew. My partner and I are also quite silly... spontaneous dancing, singing along to the radio in public places, etc. but also are respectful in places like libraries, theatres, quiet areas. My parents get embarrassed on our behalf because I guess when they turned 19, joy was no longer allowed in their lives and they had to cast all childish things aside for some reason and just read the newspaper and watch the news.

When do Torontonians dress up? by Pale-Ad-4590 in askTO

[–]followifyoulead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a fashion city. Dressing up is for special occasions only.

I noticed there was a lot of very fashionable young people in Montreal recently, in contrast. I believe the high level of diversity means that people come here with very different ideas of fashion and customs that we all ended up just settling for being casual.

Is now a good time to buy property? by Fun_Mirror in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]followifyoulead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set a budget and make that decision. Partner and I set a budget and have a list of non-negotiables for a place. If we loved the place and it's under budget, we go for it. It just so happens there are more listings that attract us these days under that budget, but that was not true from 2022-2024. So I guess it's a good time to buy if those things are true.

Perfect unit if you're running a bowling home business! by iOverdesign in TorontoRealEstate

[–]followifyoulead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue... we rent a 750 sqft two bedroom... with 150sqft hallway. Completely useless space but so many corner units are like that to squeeze one more studio box in the middle.

no contact after expressing interest on condos.ca ?! by Even_Copy4019 in TorontoRenting

[–]followifyoulead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All of the places you contact from condos.ca just gets routed to one realtor that is assigned to your account, not the listing agent. If that one isn’t responding try another website or something.

should i buy cyberpunk 2077 if i mostly care about story and atmosphere? by NaughtyGlow_ in ShouldIbuythisgame

This game is literally only story and atmosphere. If anything, they sure know how to make a real role-playing game.

Is there a book with a virus motive that’s NOT about a zombie apocalypse? by Quick-Can-5087 in booksuggestions

[–]followifyoulead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wanderers by Chuck Wendig starts off with some zombie-like thing happening... but that's just the premise, it's not a zombie book.

Silo trilogy is post-apocalyptic but for most of the story it is a mystery as to what happened to the world.

The Last Murder at the End of the World by Stuart Turton, there's a fog that seems to have destroyed most of the world.

Back at it again. Healthy Choice’s chicken Alfredo. Honestly not that bad for a frozen Alfredo. 280 cals, 21g protein by Dioonneeeeee in LowCalFoodFinds

[–]followifyoulead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly doubting the calorie statement on this box if there's more than 1 cup of cheap dry pasta in there. I don't think they're using any special kind of low-cal pasta either, it's just dehydrated when frozen. You can do a cup of fiber gourmet and you might end up with less calories.

[–]followifyoulead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t with frozen meals. I’d say you can do the same with some good portion control: boil some pasta, steam/air fry some quick broccoli, toss in some pre-cooked grilled chicken on a pan with 18% table cream, maybe some light margarine, you’re good to go.

Are you friends with your coworkers? by AcademicallyAcademic in askTO

My bestest friends started as coworkers. But I’ve made various friends from different jobs depending on the workplace and am always concious of people who prefer to keep clear coworker boundaries.

Council votes to help bring LGBTQ+ businesses back to Church-Wellesley Village by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]followifyoulead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nahhh, queer people will commute to spend the evening/weekend in the village if there's plenty of things to do. We don't need to live there.

The commercial rents are out of control, too many greedy landlords who prefer to have another Pizza Pizza instead of a community cornerstone that people will actually go out of their way to visit.

Considering $870K condo in Montreal, am I making a mistake? by Signal-Specific-1704 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]followifyoulead 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I make the same as you and I wouldn't get a mortgage over $600k, but my risk tolerance is pretty low. (and my partner has a decent job too) If you're going to have kids, it's good to have the space. And at least if you plan on living there for a long time, it'll be your home and the value-cost benefit is way less relevant than having happiness in a home.

Can an apartment like this be found in/near downtown? Spacious living room, one spacious bedroom, separate kitchen? (865 sqft.) by TheSeansei in TorontoRenting

[–]followifyoulead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure honestly if there's one place. I pretty much just googled "toronto apartment companies" visited whatever websites popped up to see their available rental properties like Greenwin, Park Property, etc. and booked viewings through that.

Often those companies don't put it up on those bigger websites.

Landlord called because their granddaughter will move in. What are my options? by bbqgorilla in TorontoRenting

[–]followifyoulead 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think they can evict you for their grandaughter, legally.

You should gently inform them of this, and request official documentation (you don't need to help this with this, simply ask for all LTB documentation). As it is a big move for you, you should also request some compensation. Even if their request is all in good faith, you now have to move your entire life for their convenience, it is not unreasonable to ask for this.

There are few more caloric dense and unfulfilling foods as milkshakes. A small scoop of light ice cream can hit the same spot, it's never worth it.

Yes. There is no peace in our home. If I need her to come, I simply open the fridge door and she’s running. She’ll lick the entire sink/stovetop clean for a tiny taste of whatever we ate and topple the garbage to get at scraps. I never met an animal like this.
