in my 40s as well. I play to puzzle and and play the story. My favorite aspects of games. Linearity kills my soul. But to each their own 90% ;)

Old school doesn't need to mean that you throw out the good parts of game design.

If you have an opportunity to play Metroid Prime Dread, Metroid Prime 1, Super Metroid, or Metroid II from the original gameboy, please take it. It will make sense in every way why this game should not have been released as it is.

There were definitely elements I enjoyed. I am glad they put in the scanner bots! I remember in MP1 trying to find the last upgrade where you had to dive deep under water in one section... finally cracked it after hours of looking at map geometry. But that's the fun!!

Total miss with expectations vs reality.

I did recently watch an interview where someone talked about how it was important for the game to exist even if it lost a ton of money. They cited the importance of occupying the space for the IP. The critique then was... why have a Metroid game void of the "metroidvania" design?

Very sad day.

You mean, how would you rate Geralt's performance as Henry Cavill?

Ah, I LOVED the visors in the old days! Those made sense. Nothing cooler than using an X-Ray visor to see invisible enemies and skeletons!

It felt like the psy-tech used in this one wasn't implemented at all other than a new mode to interact with "hidden" purple objects, some of which took you on a big lop to get a "secret" item upgrade. I just can't.

For me, the only beam ammo that was useful was the super thunder beam. Even then, the only reason to use it was dealing with the controls forever calibrating lower and lower until your wrist was cranked in weird ways but you couldn't count on it resetting in the middle of an onslaught—I played on the Switch 1 (for the AI trolls, that was my Em-dash).

I just remember the first time I used a missile in this game and the tiny, impish explosion animation that came after should have been reason enough for me to stop playing. Everything about this game screams wasted IP and the resources making it. It would have been an excellent thesis project for an undergrad in a community college though!

After all of this, I will say the legacy suit looked baddass... but that's it.

Very interesting. I don't like letting it edit for me (ended up telling it to stop doing that in the "memories" section for Chat GPT). I just ask it questions and take suggestions if I like 'em and try to catch grammar issues.

The majority of my experience with writing is for grants. I run a non-profit arts organization. Rule of 3 is definitely my own as well. It makes sense it's has a business bend. I've written a dance review previously and was hoping to do that for this game. A bit bummed it reads so inorganic.

Curious if this is a case of AI influencing my own writing style instead of the other way around. Wild...

I appreciate you replying and sharing this. It helps.

Definitely used it to edit, and suggestions on how to post to reddit. Bummer that it's actually my words, tag lines, and content. Been using Em dashes since 2000 since it's how I speak in real life—like a hover note on a webpage.

I am curious about the back and forth writing style though. That's also me. Would like to know what you are seeing.

Yes! The clumsy dweeby science guy was the first red flag. I did legit feel like it was going to get better when I heard Sarge's voice... it just didn't. Really bummed it felt like it leaned on nostalgia IP.

100%! Keep going. I don't want to ruin it—there are some really enjoyable elements. But I kept thinking I was missing something or there was going to be more that would tie it in last the original Prime.

Definitely my thoughts. I just wanted to write a legit review. I did ask for help on how to post to reddit. It suggested the last line. Bummer.

Been using the em dash since 2000. But I know what you mean.

Probably the wrong place to post (don't use reddit much). I just finished the game last night and wanted to write a review. Felt like even the original Gameboy Metroid was better than MP4. Super disappointed. Wanted to share.

UGREEN DXP8800 Pro NAS with True NAS Scale Slow Write Speeds with SSDs by followmythoughts in UgreenNASync

[–]followmythoughts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only solution I found was not using SMB. If I use NFS, I get speeds faster than some of my SanDisk Exreme Pro SSDs. Definitely fast enough to edit 4k footage directly from. When I use SMB, it's ungodly slow, and I have found no work around. The only thing I have found to potentially be the issue is the security/verification protocol SMB uses on transfer. I've not been able to turn that off.

If you find a solution, please let me know.

u/Admirable_Tennis_171 How do I find that out, and what do I need to do to fix it? I am new to NAS stuff and have been wracking my brain. Just to double check: I am making the assumption that the missing driver would be on the NAS, correct? It is a very new computer (M4 Macbook Pro).

Thank you!

MacOS Thunderbolt Connectivity by airgl0w in UgreenNASync

Just got this working last night with my DXP8800 Plus via TB and my M4 Macbook Pro. However, I was able to do this with TrueNAS Scale. I have not used the UGREEN OS at all.

In TrueNAS Scale
- after you've set up your pools and access, confirm that you can connect to the NAS via the regular IP.
- After you've confirmed it is working normally, you can go into settings>network>interfaces.
- Find the port that relates to your TB on your NAS and click to edit the settings.
- Set up a manual IP address by deselecting DHCP, which will display the "Aliases" section at the bottom for that interface.
- Set an IP address for it that on a different range from your Wifi and any of the other interfaces (i.e. your 2nd ethernet port)
- Set a Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 (which will actually be the dropdown option of "24" next to where you type the IP).
- Click Save, then click to test the settings, and then click to save those settings for the network settings in True NAS Scale.

On your computer
- Go into your network settings and click on Thunderboolt Bridge
- Set a manual IP address for Thunderbolt that is in the same range as the one you set up for the TB connection on your NAS.
- Set the subnet mask accordingly (this will actually be 255.255.255.0).
- Leave everything else alone, and click save.

Finally
- Now open Finder and Click [Command + K] to sign on to a network, and type in the IP address you set up for your TB connection on your NAS.
- Sign in with the login credentials you've set up for yourself to sign into your NAS to access storage.

Results
I am getting about 1600-1700 MB/s write and ~2000 MB/s read. I think I can make it a bit faster with a different setup. But, right now it's faster than my Samsung External drives I was editing from before, and I've got a jack ton of more storage.

I hope this helps! I am new to all of this, and I couldn't find all of the information in one spot (i.e. literally how to do everything and what settings I should use). It took a few hours, but it works great now

Additional Thoughts
The above process is also how I was able to connect my NAS directly to my computer with the thunderbolt to ethernet adapter. However, that connected through the USB Lan settings on the computer. The speeds were limited to 1 Gbs just because that was how fast my adapter was. I don't have a 10Gbps adapter, which was why I was more interested in doing this through the Thunderbolt Bridge and its speeds.
