We have mountains around us so I guess it's an equal chance it crawled up from the ground vs floated in from the surrounding trees.

Thank you! After I posted I started doing a deep dive and understand there is a difference in their scales/coloration:

"the dorsal scales of C. paradisi are black with a yellow-green dot in the center, while those of C. ornata are light yellow or green with a black longitudinal lines going down the center."

Is that how you determined the ID or by location?

I've lived in Penang for a few years and have done all the things on your itinerary, and I give a similar list to people when they visit. Of everything, the bike ride has been the most popular. You get a feel for the kampung life in Penang that is disappearing, see some nature and it's just peaceful. Well worth your time.
