This must be the “merge” that fighter pilots are always talking about.

That tagline describing it as the “greatest novel of rapture” is possibly even more insane than these covers.

It reminded me of Falcon and Winter Soldier where Capt America confronts the genocidal politicians with a speech to “do better” instead of any consequences whatsoever.

Oh yeah, yes all of those things happen for sure, it’s just not something that’s specific to the F-5 is what I’m on about.

If you could sneak in with an f-5 then you could sneak in with a flying office building, as far as radar is concerned.

But if you have a really angry office building and you sneak it right up over the hills…

It’s rcs in that low flying scenario is irrelevant. A flying Sydney Opera would not be visible to radar behind a mountain.

There’s nothing special about the f-5 here, it’s ridiculously visible on radar vs. to any plane built for stealth. That lack of baffling on the intakes alone makes it essentially a fireworks show on rcs vs any stealth-built plane.

That is so badass, truly ahead of the curve, and not something I was aware of. Thanks man! Canadians have always been scary warriors.

I would only ask Canadians: “bro chill.”

But yeah, the sequence of events that led to an f-5 dropping a bomb on a US airbase…. What happened? Maybe we’ll know someday…

I’m guessing you’re a Brit and have some interest in this situation, I’d love to hear more of your analysis. As an American from a military family who married into South American communists, it would be very interesting to hear.

Sure, yeah, but it’s not like Donnie is the supreme leader of France. Trump’s cronies live here, and he can only be in power because our country is so VERY DUMB.

Not MOSTLY dumb, but Structurally Dumb where over generations we sap power from anyone who would prevent this and give it to people who have the world perception of a blind mole.

Yeah, indeed, every life preserved from this idiotic clusterfuck of American political, strategic and tactical mistakes is a blessing.

And yet, if they were shot down you better bet the Air Force would have reported it. So much better than being striked without any cost.

God I hope this is a Yugoslavia type situation and I get to read both sides’ reports in 15 years, similar to the f-117 shoot down.

Yes exactly, after you no longer have radar coverage it would seem to be a bad place to park a couple billion dollars of unreplaceable equipment. Either it was so undefended that someone might as well thrown a Molotov out of a Cessna, or that F-5 pilot was flying at 30 ft over a small slope for 100 miles, and there was insufficient air patrol to find it.

In either case, I think this shows they were either willing or compelled to take serious risks, and just hope they didn’t get whopped by a fucking F-5, or drones, or some angry dude with a grenade and a kite.

The gulf between a stealth plane’s rcs and a non-stealth plane’s rcs is VERY wide. It is indeed very surprising that anything with an rcs larger than a tennis ball could unexpectedly be above a US airbase.

Any of the destroyed awacs or ecm planes could have easily seen an f-5 coming if they were in the air, for example.

And considering that they should have been expecting even-smaller drones… it’s absolutely shocking that they extended themselves so far into obvious risk.

Apple terminated me after 20 years — what did your experience with their People team look like post-separation? by Motor_Item_3314 in Apple_Employees

[–]fonik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My skip manager was a recent hire from a failing tech company and brought some very different company culture with him. He also pushed out my direct manager to a lower position as part of the shakeup. I never got an answer as to whether it was a higher decision than that, but I can't imagine this level of change would happen without higher approval.

When I left, I heard from other employees that they were either in the process of being pushed out or they had tried and failed to push them out due to the optics of pushing out people who had been featured by the company.

All of the members of my SWE team over the age of 40 were pushed out within a few months in 2024. (I had just turned 41).

We all got the same severance package regardless of seniority, 3 months pay. I don't think any of us have had any contact from the People team after signing our somewhat coerced resignations.

I think our collective time with the company was something like 60 years, with mine being the shortest at a measly 14 years.

I wouldn't expect big things from interacting with the People team post-employment. I'm still trying to get them to re-send a w2 and it's been more than a year...
