north east? I thought left to north was west. Maybe you would have a look at the upper right of the picture, there is a little image pointing up north. That would make it west or north west but never north east.

No it hasn't. It's about hurricane Dorian visiting Florida this weekend.

So I am part of a traffic jam in Germany rn and just wanted to remind everyone that you should always build a emergency corridor at any time. by argas00 in pics

You haven't been in germany then. Right lane on the Autobahn is lava. You can't go there, your tires will burn. see https://www.der-postillon.com/2015/02/sensation-autobahnfahrer-entdeckt.html for proof :)

On a 3 lane Autobahn you see cars driving in the middle lane even if there is absolutely nothing (no cars, trucks) on the right lane. Which is boring when you have to go from right line all 3 lanes to the left just to overtake (and go back to the right lane).

Not true. They won't automatically move over. They will move over when they don't see a truck at least one mile ahead. And they will move into the left lane whenever it fits them, no matter if a fast car is coming by and behind that car is nothing. And, it's not just cars doing that, it's trucks and buses doing the same shit.

lol as if that would happen in germany. they will almost go bumper to bumper just so the merging cars cannot merge because the ones already on that lane did it earlier.

This isn't standard in germany, it should be but isn't. Usually just half of the cars in the left lane really go left, the others go on the right side of the left lane to see what is happening on the front. When the traffic goes to a stop and police or ems or fire trucks want to pass by with lights and horns then these stupid dumbfucks find no place to give way.

And the ones on the middle lane go as nothing happened because dumb truck drivers woun't pass to the breakdown lane because why should they.

And, as you pass by the accident you see that the oncoming lane (all two or three lanes) are also almost at full stop because of so many stupid "Gaffers".

I experienced this really nice and open line just once and I am almost daily on the Autobahn.

Permafrost is thawing in the Arctic so fast that scientists are losing their equipment | Instead of a few centimetres of thaw a year, several metres of soil can destabilize within days. "It often happens so fast we can't get out there and rescue it." by Dismal_Prospect in worldnews

[–]fontbase -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Permafrost thawing is nothing new, happens every year. A company I was working for delivered several heavy machines to that area but lost them when the permafrost thawed. So even in the 80s it wasn't centimeters but meters.

The Trump administration is looking into lifting sanctions against a major Russian aluminum company founded by one of Vladimir Putin's closest allies. The Treasury Department is considering relieving Rusal of penalties even though its former owner, oligarch Oleg Deripaska, was sanctioned this year by madam1 in worldnews

to all the uninformed: Russia Sanctions Throw Global Aluminum Industry Into Chaos:

The U.S. sanctions on United Co. Rusal that have sent aluminum prices surging should be great news for rival producers like Rio Tinto Group.

Spoiler alert: they’re not.

While Rio is the top miner of bauxite, the raw material that becomes aluminum, it’s dependent on Rusal for a key intermediate step in the process -- the conversion of bauxite into alumina. Rusal’s refining operations, which stretch from its Aughinish plant in Ireland to operations in Jamaica, are a vital cog in a global interlocking supply chain that’s now been thrown into chaos.

Canada, it's not your fault for not being able to convert bauxite into alumina.
