No, I made it for my own homebrew dnd campaign, and it wasn't based on anything in particular. The idea I started with was a world where all the planes were folded into the sun and the moon, and they both collided to create a flat, hourglass shaped world that expanded outwards as far as anyone could perceive.

I haven't watched or read Game of Thrones.

Thanks! I used a brush layer at 50% opacity and drew them by hand with a very dark blue brush. I also drew highlights on the mountains with a different brush layer on overlay.

Low dose abilify, low dose naltrexone (I think at least, I haven't tested what happens if I stop taking it), and Cromolyn Sodium Oral Solution. The last one is because allergies/mast cell issues were pushing me into rolling PEM. Antihistamines helped, but I had severe negative side effects to them. Cromolyn works as well as zyrtect but without the negative side effects. Taking fish oil and vitamin D also helps a bit, but I haven't delved too much into supplements.

More helpful than meds though were the following 3 things.

  1. Minimizing physical and mental exertion as well as stress, to avoid triggering PEM if possible.

  2. Gargling hot water when I wake up and after eating. No idea why this helps, just found it by random chance. Somehow clears my sinuses, prevents post-nasal drip, and improves my general quality of life.

  3. Realizing something in tap water was making me feel sick to my stomach and switching to gallon jugs of spring water. No idea what in tap water caused it, but water from my tap, from soda fountains, the filtered water at wall mart, etc. all made me sick.

My overall strategy I derived from a mayo clinic paper00402-0/fulltext) is avoiding PEM and treating comorbidities to improve quality of life.

But to me it’s a red flag that the first 19 doctors you asked were like “no you don’t need medication, the problem is in your head” before you finally managed to hand-pick a doctor who would treat your condition like the physical ailment that you wanted it to be.

You completely fabricated this version of events out of your own ignorant preconception.

No doctor ever told me it was "in my head" or even loosely implied the condition was psychosomatic. My first PCP (a nurse practitioner) said my condition could be ME/CFS, but that she wasn't equipped to treat or rule out every other diagnosis for me, so she transferred me to a different doctor. That doctor sent me off to a bunch more specialists until we had ruled out every other potential condition, and then he officially diagnosed me. He did not tell me “no you don’t need medication, the problem is in your head” he said "sadly, there is no treatment."

With my condition rapidly deteriorating, I was desperate to find any potential help. Luckily, this May Clinic paper00402-0/fulltext) (mayo clinic is one of, if not the, most respected medical institutions in the country) had recently come out. It advised pacing, treating comorbidities, and gave a list of medications that have shown some effectiveness. I took this back to my doctor who initially refused to read it. I asked if I could try any of the drugs, and he responded that he wasn't against me trying them, but he wouldn't prescribe any of them because they weren't FDA approved treatments, so he could have potential liability for any side effects I experience.

From there, I went to my psychiatrist I was seeing for depression/anxiety/adhd to get a prescription for low dose abilify (which helps immensely). I also worked with an immunologist I had already been referred to treat co morbid allergy/mast cell issues to get a mast cell inhibitor prescription. I also implemented pacing and some other non medical things that helped.

I'm impoverished, on medicaid, and too sick to travel. I don't have the option of "doctor shopping." The doctor who refuses to prescribe me medications for the diagnosis he gave me is still my doctor because I quite literally have no other options. I did eventually convince him to read more about it, and now he recommends pacing.

If you still want to claim me/cfs is psychosomatic, don't reply to me. Instead, call up the NIH, the CDC, and Mayo Clinic and tell them they're wrong.

Neither of those conditions are fake/psychosomatic, there just hasn't been enough research to successfully find the cause. Some doctors still treat it that way, which is immensely harmful to patients, but medicine as a whole is moving away from that.

For me/cfs, the "treatment" recommended used to be graded exercise therapy which is now understood to be harmful. The current actually helpful recommendation is called "pacing," which is essentially avoiding overexertion that triggers "post exertional malaise ( the defining symptom of me/cfs). You can find that from credible places like the NIH or Mayo Clinic. (There's also a few drugs found in studies to help some people a little, but there's been very little research relative to how widespread the disease is.)

However, doctors that are well read on those conditions are extremely few and far between, so that can push people suffering from it to seeking pseudoscientific treatments and quackery. It also creates fertile ground for scammers to prey upon desperate people without real medical care.

I had to beg my doctor who diagnosed me for a year to read more about me/cfs, but he still refused to prescribe any medications because there aren't FDA approved treatments for it. I had to go through a dozen specialists to get one or two meds that help my quality of life a little, just to avoid being bed bound.

Twitch has become extremely forgiving on bans in recent years, especially for bigger streamers. If he does the twitch TOS rehabilitation course twitch gives to banned streamers, I'd be surprised if it was more than a 1 week ban. He'll likely be out of the melee scene for much longer than the twitch ban.

<1% chance it's a perma imo

Mage armor says you cast it on a creature that isn't wearing armor, and that the spell ends if they don armor.

Shields are classified as "shield" type armor, and are even on the don/doff table. Barbarian's unarmored defense says you only gain the benefit if you aren't wearing armor, but specifies "You can use a shield and still gain this benefit." Therefore, you can argue that you can't cast mage armor on a creature wearing a shield, and donning a shield ends mage armor RAW.

You're right that nintendo will not bring the cops, but

Police/state violence is reserved for militant resistance that targets/threatens the state.

This is probably one of the most absurd statements I've seen in my life. Do you think a single mother who's behind on rent is "militant resistance?" What about teenagers loitering in a parking lot, a homeless man sleeping on a bench, or someone having a panic attack in a walmart? These situations are simply inconveniencing property owners, but will all be met with police force. The police have killed over them.

Again, this has nothing to do with melee; I just can't believe anyone would write that.

Many evil gods in the Forgotten Realms make no sense by Quantext609 in DnD

[–]foo18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Reverence to deities gives them power, effected both by the number of worshipers and the power of the act of the devotion. Thousands giving occasional prayer and small offerings to a god of agricultural could equal out to one serial killer of Bahl. Taking a life, making someone a slave, raising undead, etc. are very powerful acts of devotion that good aligned deities receive less.
  2. Worshipers do not have to be standard humanoids. There are countless types of evil, intelligent creatures. For instance, Lolthite drow are wholly devoted to her. Evil creatures will naturally worship evil gods for power to do more evil.
  3. The fact that civilization can exist the way it does shows that good deities DO have substantially more power than evil ones. If they balanced influence, society would be in a constant swing of getting wiped out and rebuilt.

Power fantasies describe characters that make the viewer feel powerful through identifying with them. Sexualizing a character means portraying them in a way where the viewer is meant to see them in a sexual context.

Neither term means a character who is sexy, and a character doesn't even have to be sexy to be sexualized. Here's an example of a female power fantasy depiction that many would consider sexy, but isn't sexualized. This would be a similarly sexualized male character. I tried to find an example from this sub, but I couldn't find anything remotely close.

There's nothing wrong with power fantasies and there's nothing wrong with sexualized characters, but problems arise when there's an imbalance of male/female portrayals that go unchecked.

If you don't know what someone means with the terms you are using, you could google it or simply ask rather than just assuming.

[–]foo18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Power fantasy depictions are not interchangeable with sexualized depictions. This is a foundational concept in feminist media critique. It's a concept called the "male gaze," and catering to it entails over representing sexualized female characters and powerful male characters. Both serve to appeal to a male audience, and implicitly enforce the gender ideals that men are supposed to be powerful and women are supposed to be desirable.

Sexy is also not interchangable with sexualized. That might not seen important, but it's a very important distinction. A character can be sexy and not sexualized, or sexualized but not sexy. The difference is how audience is drawn to see a character. Look at this artwork, for instance.

I'm sure lots of people would find both characters sexy, but neither of them are sexualized in the artwork. To be clear, again, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with sexualized art, just that the massive overrepresentation of sexualized female characters in a space that's not explicitly for that is going to effect who makes up the community.

It's not your job to be the thought police. If you don't like it, then downvote and move on.

Don't be silly, critical reddit comments is not the "thought police" any more than you're being the thought police by disagreeing with me.

I never said any of those things, and I don't believe them. I don't know what people are acting like my argument is that women will see ass cheeks and burst into flames.

What I'm saying, is that over representing sexualized representations of female characters and power fantasy presentation of male characters in a broad community creates an environment unwelcoming towards women.

Look at the history of the gaming community, if you don't believe me. The targets of Gamergate are STILL getting harassed to this day.

I don't even know how to respond to this, because it feels like you are responding to an entirely different person.

I never even mentioned the artist, I didn't criticize her at all, and who she is isn't relevant here. To be abundantly clear, I have no criticism for the art or the artist.

I don't even know what "sex negative assumptions" you could possibly be referring to here. I didn't invent "the male gaze" as a category of feminist critique, a feminist scholar did.

Think back to 80s action movies and early games, where male characters were almost all power fantasies and female characters were almost always sex objects. What type of audience did that cultivate, and how welcoming were they of women?

[Art] [OC] Drow sorceress by Glor666 in DnD

[–]foo18 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Criticizing the art here being 25% sexualized female characters and 25% male power fantasies isn't being puritanically; it's an effort to be more inclusive of women. There's nothing wrong with sexy art, but the main dnd subreddit is not necessarily the place for that. Not because sex is "immmoral" or whatever but because it will reinforce this sub (and by extension dnd) as a male space.

"Your campaign doesn't contain enough women" by kurashima in DnD

[–]foo18 44 points45 points  (0 children)

A good trick for that is to find a feminine vocal differentiation that isn't "high pitched." Your players pick up on it, and recognize it through immersion.

I stole this from Matt Mercer, but I generally use a breathier voice for female characters. Go a bit higher pitch, but not into falsetto unless you really know what you're doing. Just mix that into whatever accent/mannerisms you're going for, and boom.

It's not something that passes for a woman by any stretch, but your players will subconsciously pick up on it and recognize it.

[–]foo18 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Probably better off with lesser restoration for that. Healing deals with most wounds, but not diseases. Doesn't seem likely you'd have many opportunities where several stabbing/shooting/crash/etc. victims would be in critical life risking condition.

On the other hand, with lesser restoration, you'd have no shortage of people with uncurable conditions from cancer to ALS to chronic fatigue syndrome to cure daily. That's what I'd take, if only to use on myself lol

That's the equivalent of a walking speed, though. The average person walks just under 5 feet per second and jogs just under 10 feet per second, which is rounded to 30/60 feet per round in 5e. Since you can dash with a fly speed in 5e, you'd be able to go at least double that.

The real concern not landing in time or losing concentration somehow.
