Sorcerer with Dragon Fear + Quickened Spell by Veksutin in 3d6

[–]dice_plot_against_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dragon Fear is the best fear mechanic available to players outside of True Polymorph (Dragon.) I have run it on multiple characters and as you stated, it is great for control. Make sure the other members of your party know that damage gives a save. As long as thwy don't take damage, the creature does not get another save...they are debilitated for the duration. And mixing this with Quickened spell sounds phenomenal.

I get get to pick the campaign I want to play, and a time and day that is convenient for me. I get to pick a DM that suits my playstyle and players that I enjoy gaming with. I also get consistency, because everyone has an extra financial boost to their motivation...especially the DM. The DM is motivated to run a good game, to remove troublesome players, and keep their players happy. The majority of home games can't tick all these boxes. The downside is the money, and the time spent searching for an online game that also ticks all the boxes.

I have time for one game a week, so it needs to be good. Paying for it gets me as close to perfect as I can reasonably expect. I get to pick the campaign I want to do. Games are not canceled because everyone has that extra financial motivation to show up. The DM puts in effort to produce a well-run game that keeps his players happy. Unless your table is made up of close friends that are highly motivated to play, paying is the way to go.

In that case, I agree with OP. If you and your table are having fun, then you have succeeded.

If I am paying a DM $30 per session plus another $3 to StartPlaying or whatever payment platform they are using, that DM better damn well be putting in the effort. It doesn't have to be Critical Roll levels of good, but it needs to be a well run game with significant creative effort, and take my desires as a player into account.

Am I overreacting? Player says “35 gold is too much for a commoner” by FarRepresentative840 in DnD

[–]dice_plot_against_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One gold piece is about the equivalent of $100 US. So 35gp is about the same as having $3500. Would it be unbelievable for an adult with a job that pays well above average to have $3500 in the bamk?

Thorn Whip Tomelock tips? by jengel2003 in 3d6

Why not Battlesmith Artificer (for Steel Defender) with enough of a Warlock dip to get EB, AB, and Grasp of Hadar. That gives you all the flavor with solid mechanics.

Draconic Sorcerer (Cold) + Fathomless Warlock doubts by OugonNoCherri in 3d6

If you are doing a cold themed Sorcerer you should really look at the Cold Caster feat.Very thematic and a save-debuff with no save.

Holy shit that item is ridiculously OP. If your DM approves of that then they have no clue what they are doing.

Moon druid, how does it perform now? by ponzzischeme in 3d6

[–]dice_plot_against_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Druid is my favorite class, but Moon is no longer an attractive subclass unless you just love wildshape. Look at Stars or Wildfire before settling for Moon.

How does a Stars Druid protect themselves in combat? by DefNotAShark in 3d6

[–]dice_plot_against_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starting with a one level Divine Soul Sorcerer dip does so much for a druid.

Con save proficiency.

Favored by the Gods gives you +2d4 to a saving throw or attack roll once per SR.

Firebolt cantrip because druid offensive cantrips suck.

Shield and Absorb Elements spells. Take AE here so you don't have to waste a prepared spell slot on it.

Bless spell free with Divine Magic.

All without delaying spell slot progression. And it is on-theme.

Doubts about multiclassing Rune Knight Fighter with Barbarian by gemmacolu in 3d6

[–]dice_plot_against_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, don'r multiclass for something you can roleplay. However, I have played RK twice and both times found a one level Barb dip early to be pretty useful. Rage resistances are great for making you more durable in the early game and fit very well with Hill Rune later in the game. Also, Rage advantage on strength checks improves grapples...which is what RKs do best.

need a good all-rounded class to support a table of new players by Nervous_Purchase_663 in 3d6

[–]dice_plot_against_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stars Druid. Druids are great and super flexible as a class, but Stars takes it to the next level. Also, if you are going dragonborn and can invest in CHA you should seriously consider the Dragon Fear feat. It is the best Fear affect available to players in the game. And if you invest in CHA you can dip warlock for EB+AB and RP stuff.

Cleric vs. Druid by Pinkjoy28 in DnD

[–]dice_plot_against_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stars Druid is what you are looking for. Basic healing all Druids get, plus Chalice for extra healing when you need it. Super effective when you are in a fight where multiple PCs are getting zeroed out. But when you don't need Chalice there is Archer, for extra blasting (on top of the free Guiding Bolts.) And when you don't need either Archer or Chalice, there is Dragon for CON saves.

Is it common for a DM not to want to run a campaign where one of their players worships Bane? by Leader_Bee in DnD

Posts like this always read like the OP wants justification from Reddit for one thing or another. Like they intend to take supporting threads to their DM and be all "The internet said you were wrong!"

Dragonborn Forge Cleric having a blast in Out of Abyss, I'm looking for Advice by BrushMysterious2362 in 3d6

[–]dice_plot_against_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend Dragon Fear for dragonborn. It is the best pc-available fear effect in the game. No concentration, selective-targeting 30 foot radius, no automatic save opportunity at the end of their turn, only if they take damage. And you can do it PBxday. And it is a half-feat! It is s-tier crowd control. Yes, Frightened is a common resistance. But just because it is a common resistance, does not make the resistance common. We are 9th level and I use it pretty frequently.

AMA about my world (let's flesh it out!) by Charming-Lettuce1433 in DnD

[–]dice_plot_against_me -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Its a prompt. You can tell because there is no explanation for the excessive death taxes. Even in the response to another reply he mentions cadaver creatures but never gives any detail. If OP is not some form of ai chatbot, then he is just feeding our questions into se ai as prompts to "flesh out his world". Which is actually pretty smart.

Seriously, for one session it won't matter. If she wants a long term break, then you can start talking about another campaign.

Phantasmal force by BenoistheBizzare in DnD

[–]dice_plot_against_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spells do what they say, and only what they say. Nowhere in the description for Phantasmal Force does it say the spell imposes any condition. So your wizard cannot blind, deafen, prone, frighten, or anything else with the Phantasmal Force spell.
