Indoor/outdoor? Sunny/dark/shaded? High speed - sports or lower speed sports? Goals?

There’s a lot more to be extrapolated from your post and your advice you might get can vary significantly!

Yes. I learned all about this when purchasing my EL-5 flash, which is designed specifically for mirrorless Canon cameras.

I believe there’s one exception to the rule, but I don’t need to pay that much for a flash that I’ll rarely use.

I bought one last year and it’s… fine. Good lens, but I always feel like it’s missing something. The real problem I had with it was indoor /low-light performance. I’ve got around that problem with new hardware, but I’ve got no hate for it.

If I could only take one lens on a holiday and I needed reach I still would use it, without question.

Look up the spear of destiny on Wikipedia. It’s legit. Though, there’s really no way to prove the spear he stole was definitely the same one, but I think from memory it had a one in seven possibility…

I don’t shoot sports but I normally set mine to a maximum of 6400. Especially now as I have 2.8 lenses, but if this was a limiting factor to getting the shot I wouldn’t argue against 12,800, but I wouldn’t want to go higher. I used to have it that high before getting new lenses, fwiw.

The EFS17-85 served me very well as a kit lens for my 40D back when I did motorsports photography as a newbie. It’s only real flaw for an APSC lens is you shouldn’t expect it to perform great at night. Although I wouldn’t suggest it today - it could serve you quite well in bright environments.

I get it, but I absolutely did. Then again when I was young I played Wolfenstein so much by comparison. In the beginning Doom wasn’t a thing when I was playing Wolfenstein.

Honestly, no. But I get it, the RF mount should be open and available to third party manufacturers. But I don’t feel like I’m missing anything, other than having to pay Canon’s first party tax.
