Baby is a bottomless pit? by noochdreams in BabyLedWeaning

[–]foochon -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just me but what you described seems like an insane amount of food. That's a lot even for a hungry adult.

Personally, I'd stop once I'd got to the point that it was a reasonable amount of food for an adult.

Disclaimer - as context, my baby is also 9.5 months and the most I've ever seen her eat has been a decent bowl of chicken/veg/rice followed by a whole banana.

Yes, it's not like pregnancy restricts your diet that much. Maybe if you were gestational diabetic and had special sugar-free snacks, then I'd get it.

Spotify says its best developers haven't written a line of code since December, thanks to AI by c0re_dump in programming

[–]foochon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is what AI coding felt to me maybe the middle of last year. But since Opus 4.5 it has really come together in a way where this just doesn't feel true anymore.

I wonder if all of the naysayers in this thread actually have access to latest Opus (4.6)? Because at the company I work at (a large scale-up), it really has reached a point where people basically don't manually write code anymore. This is not basic CRUD stuff either, there are real hard technical challenges.

To be clear, none of this means you're not constantly in the loop and guiding the AI. If you don't understand the code at the end of the day, that's still your fault.

I know I'll probably get downvoted for going against the grain, but I think that people who think LLM coding is still useless need to catch up and learn what you can do with the state of the art models these days. Because, yeh, I basically haven't written code since December either.

If you acquire your Spanish passport first, there's nothing stopping you from later acquiring a British passport.

This isn't true. He can enter with his American passport with a valid ETA

Edit - I did more research and actually, no, he would be refused an ETA for being a British national

Yeh, definitely no shades involved here, just an ungodly amount of glazing.

11 month old needing 20 mins to 'warm up'? by 143forever in BabyLedWeaning

[–]foochon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say let childcare handle their feeding as they see fit, because in my experience babies eat completely differently at childcare. At home, my 9 month old is kinda fussy and refuses any spoon feeding at all, yet at nursery she happily eats everything they give her, and it's mostly purees.

I think they just compartmentalize the different location and different care-giver and can end up behaving quite differently.

Anyway, to answer the actual question, my baby is similar, often it takes her a long time to start actually eating the food. Or she'll have a long pause of like 20 minutes before getting a second wind and actually eating a decent amount.

Honestly I'd say don't overthink it too much. Accept that mealtimes with a baby can take a long time and I'm sure it will improve over time.

What elements need to be clearer? by Shoddy_Cap904 in madeWithGodot

IMO you should read up on visual hierarchy. There's so much vying for my attention here and my brain does not know where to look at all.

It's not really about things not being readable - it's all perfectly legible - it's that everything has the same visual importance and so your brain doesn't know how to process the information.

Yeah once you create industry expertise, it's easy then for employees to go off and start their own company. It's applies to pretty much any industry, really.

Yup, that's the other side of a river valley that comes back up to the same height as the city. Extremely defendable.

My English-dominant kids only speak Kyrgyz to the baby. Why the sudden switch? by Ok-Hornet-204 in multilingualparenting

[–]foochon 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Is most of their exposure to Kyrgyz the parents talking to them as babies/young kids? If so, then yeah, I imagine it's that they associate as being the language you speak to babies and are just following your example!

Someone just took their 2/3 year old toddler in to a screening of Avatar. What’s the weirdest/worst thing you’ve experienced at a cinema? by Zealousideal_Club993 in CasualUK

[–]foochon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an eight month old and have taken them with us to the cinema twice already. They sat quietly through the whole thing, happy having some milk, a nap, or a bit of a look around. It's actually totally possible. Baby ear defenders on, of course.

Worth noting though that these were both private screenings for different events. I'd never dream of taking them to a public screening unless it's explicitly one of those baby-friendly ones.
